Maybe in full roster depth. But we're talking about college football teams and at the most important position on the field Texas had Vince Young and Miami had Ken Dorsey.

And teams should be ranked based on what the team did, not how many players got drafted.

Yeah too many people look at that roster and how many players ended up in the NFL and automatically think they are one of the best ever. That is not how college football works. I still always wonder how 2001 Texas would have fared against them in the national championship had they not tripped over their own dick against Colorado.

And if we are going to play hypothetical matchups between these teams, I like my chances against with VY under center. You have a great chance to win against anyone because of him alone.

I believe 2013 Florida St sent all 22 starters to the NFL. Didn't they? 2005 Texas was not even close to that. And they are much higher than them.

I get it. You’re a Texas fan. I am too.

But yeah, that Miami team should have been #1.

I get it, you're wrong.

Support your argument. I mean the argument that 2001 Miami was better. The argument that they should be on top of this list is obviously and factually incorrect considering this list is based on a given algorithm that applies evenly to both teams.

Lulz from the 2001 Miami Wikipedia page:

Quote

Prior to the 2006 Rose Bowl, ESPN's SportsCenter ran a special in which the 2005 USC Trojans, led by stars Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, and LenDale White, were compared with the greatest college teams of the past 50 years, as picked by sports fans voting on ESPN.com, to determine their place in history. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes were the only team picked by fans to defeat the '05 Trojan squad, reflecting the esteem with which the 2001 Hurricanes are held in the college football world.[16]

Back in those days the top schools could have well over a hundred guys on scholarship and bogart all the top talent. Some teams prior to 1973 had over 150 players on scholarship as it was only limited by what you could afford.  In 1973 schools were limited to 105 scholarships (to free up money for women's sports), in 1978 to 95, then later in 1992 to 85.  It was easier to be very dominant pre-1990, and especially  before 1978.

Women literally ruin everything.

If you go nickel Texas sent at least 8 starters on D to the league. Linebackers were lacking, secondary was not.

On offense all but wr2 and maybe an OL went to the league, so that’s 9 or 10. Ahmad hall at fullback plus 2 RB’s as well. (Uggh on ramonce)

In total I’m saying it was at least 17-18 starters depending on alignment with many making significant impacts at the next level.

7-5 Pitt and 8-4 VaTech played them to the wire.

Texas won in the shoe. At night.

They came damn close to losing at BC who was at Miami's 9 yd line poised to go in for the go ahead touchdown with less than a minute left when BC threw an int.
