For the Libs--candidate questions

sorry if already posted but probably deserves its own thread and was recently updated but found helpful.  WAPO Candidate policy quiz to find out which Democrat agrees with your views most:

QUIZ link

To get things started, mine:

Biden: 13; Bloomberg: 13; Klobuchar: 13; Steyer: 11; Buttigieg: 10; Yang: 10; Warren: 7; Gabbard:6; Sanders: 3

Wish there were questions regarding military but guess that falls under fiscal spending.  But would love to see less military control for President, etc.  Not a perfect quiz by far.

No Democrat has that name? Found who I am voting for and I am not a card-carrying Democrat.

What I like about the quiz is that it really is more ado about issues rather than who said what--just answer the questions and see who you side with and why.  I found I was less socialist than Sanders--in fact, he's the worst candidate among the Democrats for me but I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he's the candidate.

You married? You a dude? Don't care what the answer is to either. Marry me.

Bloomberg and yang with 12 for me. I have some unorthodox liberal views so these aren’t really made for me. It would work better if I could weight the importance to me. For example I’m a complete socialist on healthcare but don’t believe we should eliminate student load debt for people that currently have it. But I would weight the healthcare issue as 10x more important to me personally.

it's tough because I'm more centrist--believe in affordable but not free education and the same with healthcare.  I think that tax payers should have a right to affordable healthcare unless they can't afford one, and then, like an attorney, it's afforded to them.   But I also support private insurance should they choose.

There's also questions I'd like to answer regarding infrastructure such as the privatization of roads and there's nothing about food labeling or farm subsidies.

And healthcare should be of primary importance to everybody because the right to pursue happiness actually relies on people's physical and mental condition.

Not a lib, just a guy who leans socially liberal (live your life, it’s none of my business)/fiscally responsible who used to typically vote for GOP candidates (I’m in Texas) but can’t stomach the current crop of assholes.

I was way heavy Bloomberg/Biden and may have been even more Klobuchar if she had answered four of the questions.

How about just non-retarded Republicans?

Klobuchar, Bloomberg, Steyer, Biden with Bernie last.  I think if Trump’s views were on the quiz he would have gotten a ZERO from me. I wonder if a Biden/Klobuchar ticket could win the presidency.  Biden gets the African American vote better than the others and the Ohio/PA/MI areas while Klobuchar could maybe get some MN/WI/IA type states and bring a female vote.

Thanks!

Yang 14

Warren and Pete 12. Although, those scores come from completely different topics.  Some more important than others putting Warren ahead for me.

Bernie being against adding justices, TPP, UBI, and carbon taxes dropped him down my list. I assume Bernie has some other alternative to carbon taxes that wasn't an option.

Green New Deal, which is an FDR type CCC program that encompasses carbon tax and UBI. Green New Deal contains a jobs guarantee to restart the flow of money from the bottom to the top.

I don't understand how it's mathematically possible for me to have Warren at 15 and Yang at 12, but you have them as polar opposites.

Don't get me wrong - I ain't calling you a liar. I'm just confounded and dumbfounded by the maths.

Weird. It's definitely real. I would have to go back choice by choice and look.

Yeah, I prefer the GND to carbon taxes/credits as well. I disagree with the jobs guarantee though. I think UBI is the better alternative, but at higher amounts than what is currently proposed by Yang. It opens more opportunity for the arts and research. If someone still wants to dig holes only to fill them back in, they can still do that with UBI.  I don't think we need to start creating useless jobs just so people can "work." I don't think that it does anyone any favors. People will end up "stuck" in these guaranteed jobs just like people get stuck in current jobs when they need insurance or are living check to check. That being said, ramping up the truly necessary jobs needed for building and maintaining GND infrastructure is a good thing.

Bernie is also pretty hard on trade overall, but there was something Bernie mentioned in passing one time that I liked. Sort of an open trade alliance between nations that are socially forward thinking on the economy and climate.

I have been a fan of UBI for a while now. The jobs guarantee is a mechanism under MMT for ensuring price stability and not worsening wealth inequality. But Prof. Kelton explains the difference better. Both strike at a key core issue for me. I wish Yang had more visibility.

I have a problem with "issues" polling and decision-making.  Because they are about where a candidate SAYS he STANDS.  Fuck that.  A candidate's positions must be weighted based on character and trustworthiness.

I mean, Trump said over and over how he loves cheap healthcare, better than we have now, and will protect your pre-existing conditions....but those are not just worthless words, they're the opposite of the truth.

So, I don't care if a candidate tells me X, if that candidate is 100% unlikely to ever do X.

The person matters more than the policies.  When you get up into a zone of decent, relatively trustworthy human beings, THEN you it makes sense to talk about policy differences.  But before that, you're engaging in an exercise of fantasy on par with "which supermodel would you most like to bang?"  Until there's a point in time when you actually have a CHANCE to hook up with a supermodel, it's all just an exercise in magical thinking.

So who of the candidates fits that bill for you?

Not sure yet.  My strong lean is Warren right now.  But trust me, if Biden gets the nomination, see the first post -- his "I'm not Donald Trump and the leader of a GOP death cult" credentials are just fine.

THIS!!!  People do not exclusively vote based on stated policy positions, usually it has little to do with it.  I always found these polls only slightly informative but borderline insulting.

I'm not voting in the Democratic primary because it's none of my business so it doesn't matter but I got Biden/Buttigieg/Klobucher as my top 3 and there's no way in hell I'd pull the lever for McKinsey troll Buttigieg if someone stuck a gun to my head and forced me to cast a vote.  Whoever emerges from the Democratic scrum has my vote in November though.

Why would you like a liar like Warren? I'd vote Bernie over her.

Interesting.  While I would consider supporting Pete and Warren now that Castro is out, they scored very low for me.  Yang and Bloomberg were my highest and they interest me as much as dining out at an Applebee's.

Not too many "Libs" here.  Lots of old Rockefeller Republicans and disaffected former moderate Republicans who hate the current POTUS and the traitorous, gutless GOP who support him.    And some traditional conservatives who can't hold their nose enough to support Trump, who rightfully see the dismantling of our institutions by a crook with narcissistic personality disorder a far more odious problem than a beef over policy with Democrats.

But any true liberals please step forward.

My voting is more a reflection of the realities of what might get them elected or might be doable. It would be cool if we had healthcare like the Canadians, but I'm skeptical that they can make it happen. I'm in favor of full legalization of a laundry list of what's called drugs. That's not happening either. 20 years ago I didn't think it was possible that Colorado and the rest would.

Biden is not my first choice. But, if Uncle Joe gets the nomination I won't hesitate to vote for him.

This is a lot like the political spectrum quiz. There are a lot of factors beyond policy positions that influence my vote. I test out as pretty damn liberal, but I'll support the candidate against Trump even if I disagree with them more often than not.
