So these craft distillers making hand sanitizers, what type of grain are they using? Is it the same stuff they use in their product? (Corn, rye, barley, etc.) Are they able to obtain the absolute cheapest grain available for this purpose? Doesn't it require some time for fermentation?

Fermentation happens pretty quickly. It’s usually the multiple distillations and filtration that takes a little longer, plus barrel aging for those spirits that require them.

There are at least 5 different houses in my neighborhood that are in various stages of demolition or construction.   Can confirm a shitload of cars/vans.  I think it depends on the trade.  Roofers are literally bused in.  Other than the idea of 15 dudes on a 1/4 acre sharing a port a pottie in mid/high 80* heat...  I think it's absolutely a non issue.

Yeah, it does for sure. The two sites I'm starting/have started are 25 and 50 acres respectively, so yeah, no parking space issues.

I avoid shithouses even in normal times. Fucking gross.

I'd assume CDC.gov wouldn't report it until it was official, verifiable, etc., the most conservative known numbers. So BNO may be right.

Nothing on BNO. Here is the Reuters article.

ANTANANARIVO (Reuters) - The island nation of Madagascar confirmed its first cases of coronavirus on Friday, the president said in a televised statement.

The three cases of coronavirus were confirmed by the Institut Pasteur de Madagascar, President Andry Rajoelina said.

Madagascar, one of the world’s poorest nations, halted all all international flights this week to try to prevent cases of the virus.

Looks like some folks might be getting more cruise bang for their buck!

Big cities and transportation hub cities are absolutely getting hosed.  "Their" (really a private company's) capacity is going to get soaked up with people from other areas.  The NY crowd headed down here en masse.  I don't blame them, but it still kinda sucks.

Okay, how about Papua New Guinea?

They joined the team two days ago per the Guardian.

Papua New Guinea will enter into a two-week state of emergency on Tuesday after the country confirmed its first case of Covid-19, as the Pacific region recorded its first death from the virus.

The Papua New Guinea government confirmed late on Friday evening that its first case of coronavirus is a foreign mine worker who entered the country on 13 March and travelled to Lae.

Announcing the confirmed case on Friday night, the prime minister, James Marape, said: “Our team were able to trace all his steps and contacts in country and from present indications the 10 or so persons he came in contact with have not shown signs and symptoms but are all under observation for our national safety.”

They buy the alcohol already distilled from a central distiller. I guess the question is whether the central distiller has the capacity for this increase or not.

Off topic, but basically many famous vodka makers just buy the product from someone else, maybe drop it into a kettle or distill it once more for marketing purposes, cut it with water, and then bottle it with their label.   https://ultrapure-usa.com/

There are a handful of small craft distillers but not many.

Anybody that knows anything about this kind of stuff want to give us a point of view? Is this good news or is this kind of stuff happening a lot right now?

Also, @triplehorn please get your shit together, craft some sort of disguise, fake the illness and get a treatment of this, real quick like. We’d all like to know how effective it really is.

Okay - this thread has been invaded by mouth breathing idiots who can't understand no politics.
No more national leadership or mentions - this thread will only be for local instances of public policy by local I mean LOCAL, only city/county level discussion is allowed.
The national and state public policy talk needs to move to Cloak Room as there isn't a conducive way to include it and have members of the board not feel attacked politically.
The punishment will be banishment from DT for the duration of the coronavirus restrictions in Austin TX (I had to choose somewhere and I keep up with where I live). You will not be able to see or participate in any threads in the Daily Texan if you fuck this up.

Can I post a pic of a nurse with big tits? Like this? Maybe she lives in Austin.

That's a hell of a boat ride. They went from Buenos Aires, to Chile, then Ft. Lauderdale.

Monticello West. Assisted Living. I do not know any further info. about the facility.

The daughter isn't allowed to go see her mom in the ICU, and from the condition i hear shes in, she has likely seen her alive for the last time on March 10th.

Awww...the rights of Spring. There are few things better than that first warm day when the coeds wear their swimsuits under their clothes so they can go lay by the river in between classes.

Intersting.  realize that Viagra etc. work by increasing nitric oxide production which results in vasodilation.  Inhaling this keeps it pretty local.

These bolded parts stand out:

Quote

The compound has also been tested as a potential treatment for the novel coronavirus’ closely related predecessor—the strain behind the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s. Previous studies showed that nitric oxide slowed down the replication of that virus and reduced the need for long-term ventilator support.

According to Bellerophon, the genetic similarities between the two coronaviruses “support the potential for [inhaled nitric oxide] to provide meaningful benefit for patients infected with COVID-19” and inhibit the progression of upper respiratory tract symptoms.

“Based on currently available data and its significant role in the immune response, we believe INOpulse has the potential to be a safe and effective treatment for COVID-19,” said CEO Fabian Tenenbaum. “INOpulse technology utilizes targeted pulsatile delivery of inhaled nitric oxide, providing important antiviral potential, as well as improved arterial oxygenation.”

At first glance, one thing I'd want to understand better is if there's a point in clinical progression of illness where Nitric Oxide gas causing pulmonary vasodilation becomes  counterproductive.  From what I've read, it sounds like the advanced pneumonia phase causes "leaky" alveoli with a breakdown of the blood/air barrier in alveoli with resultant blood entering the lung airspace and pink frothy sputum or frank blood getting produced or spit up.  In this case vasodilation might start to be counterproductive if you're opening the spigot into leaky lungs with vasodilation, which could actually worsen oxygen/blood exchange.  Think of it like a decongestant - it causes vasoconstriction of blood vessels in the sinuses so there's less fluid pressure to transfer across membranes to form to mucus to clog your sinuses.  So I'm guessing this procedure probably definitely would call for some clear clinical guidelines with some contraindications.  Maybe these cases get inhaled NO while also hooked up to ECMO.

I'm not trying to twist any words. The drug's shorthand name is chloroquine, and anything you search for "chloroquine" will also include the "phosphate", which is also in the medicinal prescription. Here's the medical facts page on it.

There's a second and distinct drug that's hydroxychloroquine. Both are used to treat malaria, and both are currently prescribed medicines.

Wrong section bro. Join your fellow jerkoffs in the cloak room. The educated level headed here won’t fall for your drivel

That’s pretty sad that people are dumb enough to think there are going to checkpoints all over where they have to wave a piece of paper anybody could print out, to get to their job at the grocery store or whatever.     They actually think police want to stand around interacting with a shit ton of people every day in the middle of a pandemic.

Since you’re here, some of us are probably wondering about the comment below..

So are domestic violence calls going up?   Because it seems like in this thread alone, we will have some wives murdering husbands.

I don’t have any hard numbers, but I’d say both are up and going up. Without normal activities to escape their abusers, the cycle is in hyperdrive. Alcohol abuse, possible loss of employment, “cabin fever”, plain boredom with virtual unlimited access are all drivers here.

That sort of thing is out patient at the Urologist's office.

Counterpoint: they may want to re purpose medical supplies, mask, gloves, paper gown for medical professionals responding to the pandemic.

Also make sure you do all the followup testing.  I have a friend that skipped the tests and there was an issue...  Twins!  Surprise motherfucker.gif

That's good advice. It also happened to a friend of mine. He decided to skip providing follow up samples to the urologist. Just one, not twins though. Absolutely do every follow up test to make sure that you are indeed clear.

Raises hand...yep it happens

I know I'm getting precariously close to murdering my entire family.  Wait, did I type that or just think that?

Check in on your parents. My brother (who is on this thread somewhere) realized that our 70-something dad is going to the fucking store... almost daily... for a handful of things at a time. We talked him into letting us set up delivery. WTF are people thinking.

My sister and I got my mom to agree to pick up. She is an extremely independent woman, always has been, but I am happy to report her children pleading the case to not go in seems to have turned the tide.
I get the independence, and there's probably some of that in my dad, too. But don't these people realize the risks involved? It makes no sense to take that kind of a risk at 65+.
