Well the shutdown didn't last long enough for me.  Sounds like my sister in laws wedding in two weeks is not only still going to happen but at full capacity because the venue told her that they won't be following any restrictions.

Sounds like you have perfect cover to sit this one out

Is Sweden really not in lockdown? Cos, I mean, their deaths per million people are higher than the US (435 vs 321), but it doesn’t seem to be the apocalypse that some people predicted without a lockdown.

Edit: so I found this regarding Sweden:

Quote

Essentially, only high schools and universities have closed; businesses have remained open. Swedes have been asked to keep their distance in public, refrain from non-essential travel, and work from home when possible. Gatherings of more than 50 people are also banned, as are home care visits.

It also seems like their hospital system has not been overwhelmed, but it’s been close.

Not much there to get infected.  Makers of Volvo, H&M, meatballs, clogs and Abba.  That's about it.

Ironically ABBA are all high-risk - all four are in their 70s.

Somebody is going to read that and say “fuck I feel old”

That somebody is me.

Yeah but I would bet you my house that the Swedes followed those suggested behavior modifications much better than Americans would had the same been presented.

911 changed air travel and surveillance of people’s emails/phones/etc forever, so it's not too far fetched to think that this virus can also change some things forever.

9/11 changed things because the threat and danger did not go away, and ... in theory, the changes were needed for security and safety.  Unless we are talking about COVID mutating repeatedly every year or two and keeping the same virulency, Once we have a vaccine most things will evolve back closer to the old normal.

Some businesses might evolve with reduced travel and more WebEx, Zoom etc type of work as cost savings, but I think people will go back to travel, cruises, restaurants, sporting event, etc.

The little faces are good. This thread needs less inane thoughts put into words. You in particular dominate this thread and bring no substance. Maybe you should use more little faces

Sweden has done a relatively good job fo slowing the spread using less severe measures. That said, they've been sitting around the same daily death rate as if the US had 2500 a day for awhile now.  And, unfortunately, it doesnt appear they are anywhere near herd immunity, meaning they may maintain or increase that rate for some time to come.

Wow... I dominate the thread ?  Man, that's something.....

EDIT MONDAY:

Hey BOOM, am I still dominating ?  Oh I hope so.

It's amazing I could dominate the thread with just a small handful posts in the last 48-72 hours.

Hey quick question---I'm still not sold on wearing masks to prevent my spreading of possible germs to others.  What about if I'm a few hundred feet underground?  Do I need to wear a mask then?  I mean, does the aerosol spray of my breath/saliva...is it hampered if I'm far underground...you know...like say I was a giant coward?

Great.  Now some asshole is gonna give the coronavirus a dose of Viagra, and we're gonna end up right back where we started....

So coronavirus is gonna be all geared up, take an expensive pill, disappoint her anyway, and wake up at 3 in the morning rock hard and getting turned down?

Wait. I mean, Viagra? Never heard of her.

Is that still a thing?

No, that was last month, please keep up.....  Imagine all the convicts they'd have to release to fill the prisons with the people violating the social distancing, and 10 person gathering laws !!!!

Funny, 'cause it's true.  I was told that one day, it would just disappear like a miracle.  I did see a lot of people in masks in downtown Austin yesterday though, so glad to see we're still practicing respectful hygiene for the sake of our neighbors.  Though there wasn't much in the way of social distancing and I would describe the atmosphere as reaching a "feverish-pitch"...which could be a symptom.   And for some reason the highways were blocked off, I suppose to keep the virus from infiltrating our country again by truck.

Seriously though...I've been clamoring for contact tracing for months.  We have the technology, but we don't have the will.  Then I watched 100 riots break out all over the country, realizing we can barely accomplish it while being were under shelter-in-place, how the fuck do you contact trace from a 1000 person riot?  So yeah, I've officially given up on contact tracing...at least until November when third wave occurs.

CSB- Man came up to me at grocery store and asked what class I was at West Point, as a I had on a 1st Cav/ West Point shirt from Army-Navy game last year.  I said no, that I was an old jarhead, but that my son was Class of 2017. He thanked me for raising a kid that would be interested in serving his country and said he was Class of ‘77.  He said, ‘Go Army.’  I replied, ‘Beat Navy!’ And reached out my hand and we actually shared a real human freaking moment again.

Sinners...both of us.  LOL.   It did feel eerily awkward, but also was a ‘Fuck it. ‘ moment.

No shit, Sherlock?  Here when I thought you and I were finally getting one another's sense of humor.  You didn't pick up on the tone of my first paragraph?  It's meant to be the voice of a naive American who was fed the bullshit lie that this virus would miraculously disappear.  The rest of the paragraph are observations that same stupid person makes as he drives around Austin thinking the virus is gone, but that something altogether different is afoot.

Good to see all the ballgame and Italy in 2 weeks folks give no fucks about COVID while people are rioting in the streets behind the actual protestors.  But muh rights!!!

The double standard is insane from a month ago we had mockers about MuH rIgHtS that would lead to inevitable virus spikes and unheard of death amounts

Now we see a much higher human rights protest with much larger turnouts, closer contact, screaming with no masks etc. I’ll say there’s a lot more masks than the MuH rIgHtS people but masks don’t make a shit. But we’ve heard crickets in this thread from the mockers with the current protest

I hope this virus kills off handshakes and neckties permanently. Biggest disease vectors in human history. If you're not a beneficiary in my will there's no reason to touch me if you're a dude.

Neckties are a disease vector? I hate wearing ties and handshakes while i’m eating, so I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter. Please elaborate.

It's largely young people out there.  I think some spread will be good.  Let's get the herd immunity on.

Well if you dipped my pilot uniform tie in water you'd make a fine stew. How often do you really clean your ties?

Everybody has their flavor.  Some are just douchebags about their self ascribed superiority over your opinion, that's obviously wrong......because it's not theirs.
