by my count, if you guessed whether a state had above 40% vaccine rate today using only the electoral college vote in November, you'd score an 86.  B.  Not bad. Outliers in red.

Well, that's a stupid fucking question.  Are we advising people who are vaccinated or those who aren't?  Democrats, being naturally far more intelligent than Republicans, no doubt assumed with no further information that it's still in people's best interest to distance and mask UNLESS FULLY VACCINATED.

Your shitty little "gotchas" don't gotcha anyone, @GRHorn.  You're still the same troll.  Negged.

We need to boost the competition between states if the goal is to get more shots in arms. It is a national security risk at this point.

Injections puts the United States and her interests on firmer footing in a unsteady geopolitical sphere. I presume we all seek stable ground for the People of the United States? No?

Bumping this thread since a good one about NEWS vs. POLITICS (Get it right people) is needed.

Delta variant making an ugly run. Lambda was just announced (emerged from South America), and who the fuck knows what could come out of Collie Station.

We are seeing new lockdowns from Australia to Zimbabwe and shit is not going away.

If this motherfucker mutates and makes my vaccine useless, I'm gonna be pissed off beyond belief.

Scientists did the damn near impossible and got a fantastic vaccine out in less than a year from the original lockdown and the stupid among us are going to fuck it up.

God damn them.

the variants are coming from other parts of the world where there's limited vaccine availability. it's not from hesitancy, numbnuts.

Well, in addition to the holdouts. But yes, the billion people in India that can’t get it, and the useless Chinese vaccines not helping the situation.

Guest Lobo

Do the stupid people think that the variants are still coming out of a lab in China or from the bodies of unvaccinated where the variant can sort of play DJ and mix and match the tracks he loves best?

Take it to the Politics Thread. This is for news. It is why I started it and due to peoples inability to control where they post it was moved the CR. Maybe we can get it back to where it belongs. DT with NO FUCKING POLITICS.

Got something to say about Cali, fine, post the news. Leave the Trump or Biden discussion where it belongs so the overlords do not kill it all together.

Vaccine hesitancy among Trump supporters is not political in this context. It helps illuminate trends in the virus and correlates the data with facts.  Vaccine hesitancy is a public health issue, not a political dispute.  As a nation and a world, we need vaccinations in arms, yesterday.

But I understand your concern.

I'd suggest starting a new thread on variants in DT, then. This one is dead, Jim.

I want an active thread for news. So just say Cali is trending up. We are smart people on this board. We know politics. All I am asking is leave the politics to the other thread in the CR.

If I had wanted to start a CR Thread I would have. This thread should be in DT. It is not. That sucks.

You want a thread where no one comments on why a state or region is trending up?

Maybe go back to Bada Bing and start another thread with just news. There's a Texas thread still there. I don't think imma or blacklab are going to slap your hand if you do it.

Yes, but making a massive push into Chile now as well. Seems to kick the shit out of SINOVAC which is the dominant vaccine in South America.

Here is an article about P.1 from Brazil.

Scientists have also had their eye on a third concerning variant that arose in Brazil, called P.1. Research had been slower on P.1 since its discovery in late December, leaving scientists unsure of just how much to worry about it.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/01/health/covid-19-coronavirus-brazil-variant.html

More.

P.1 has a triple spike mutation

When it comes to genetic analysis, the team found that P.1 is different from the previous strains of COVID. The Brazilian mutation has collected 17 mutations – including an important trio of mutations in the spike protein (K417T, E484K and N501Y).

The spike is what the antibodies in vaccines are generally identifying and destroying, so too many mutations of the spike can give the virus an edge against naturally created antibodies – that is, antibodies that happen in a person after they survive COVID-19.

For context, the Indian variant has a double spike mutation. This one has a triple spike mutation.

Samir Bhatt said: “Our analysis shows that P.1 emerged in Manaus around November 2020. It went from not being detectable in our genetic samples to accounting for 87 percent of the positive samples in just seven weeks.

It is in our self-interest to get good vaccines to big-ass countries where the virus is still running wild.

We spent the last 20 years taking a "take out the terrorists where they live, so they aren't able to attack us here at home".....it's damned sure a sound strategy for dealing with a highly-transmissible disease.

Mine were not political posts. Vaccine hesitancy is a fact in this nation and provide us with NEWS of where this is headed.

It is tho. Another massive group of hesitancy is POC. While I’m not certain how most of them voted, you can make an assumption they weren’t trumpkins.  So yeah, it’s not hard to avoid the politics with news, but diving into it further can complicate that.

No it's not. Some of you - not the author of this thread - want a bubble where you do not have to consider the consequences of poor behavior in this public health crisis. That's not how facts and news work.

You can't make up facts. News forces you to consider uncomfortable facts. That is an essential function of the Press in our nation.

News informs - whether the news is flattering for the reader or not.

your news was fine. Posts which added  political slant, like your editorial addition about how the state's voting numbers were set is what got this thread pushed into the CR. That is all I am saying kind sir. And there is a thread to ridicule all the anti-vexers.

Spoiler

I don't want to ridicule the vaccine hesitant, but each of us need to recognize the continuing threat they pose to this nation's economy and health.

Those adults without legitimate reasons to avoid the vaccine should be seen for what they are - free riders in a nation where herd immunity has not been reached. This free rider problem in the US is a public health and economic concern. News about the free rider problem informs and helps solve this public health and economic problem.

Covid should have never been political issue. The nation should have rallied together. We didn't and the negative externalities from the divide continue to obstruct the public health and economic response to the pandemic. We can do better.

Can we go back to the news and not the definition of the news now?

Sure thing Boss.

We are seeing African Nations go back into full lock downs. Just had a call from a client in Rwanda. They are back to lock down and CDC just stated they are at level, thus zero travel unless critical.

Africa is a mess, hard to get good news on it though. I have sent an email blast to contacts across the continent and will try and keep up with what countries are doing what.
