Tulsa, Oklahoma reporting in.

Quote

Officials identified the patient who tested positive as a male in his 50s who had recently traveled to Italy. He returned to Tulsa on Feb. 23 and went to his health care provider with symptoms on Feb. 29, when state health officials were notified.

The man and his family are currently under isolation in their home, officials said.

The case was confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, but the state now has the ability to conduct tests itself, officials said.

SXSW cancelled by the city.  Hopefully the conference can recoup their insurance amount; otherwise, they're bankrupt and that's that.

It’s just as bad for bars and restaurants that depend on that yearly boom.

SXSW cancellation, Vegas conference cancellations, travel crashing, supply chain disruptions ongoing, Kudlow telling people to go to work even if they're sick, Trump attacking the governor of a state with a serious outbreak instead of coordinating an actual response.....here we are:

Mark it down.  It's starting to fall apart, and we're going to see our Federal leadership do the only thing it knows how to do: lash out angrily, blame anyone and everyone, and flail about uselessly when it comes to actual competent performance.

Much higher than necessary serious infection rate, much higher than necessary death rate, and a recession....all inbound.  And all we're going to get from our Federal government will be [checks notes] attacks on Democratic governors.

Don’t forget that they’re gonna do all they can to protect their own self-interests shamelessly. They’re already starting by floating proposed tax breaks for all of Trump’s hotels. There will be more tax breaks that benefit Trump.

Well, this is where that belief system collides head on with a harsh and cruel reality that doesn't give a shit about their beliefs or feelings.  There are a lot of people whose cognitive dissonance is going to get real fucking uncomfortable in the next few months.

That's pretty much the Right's 2-step.

1. Create/increase likelihood of/exacerbate crisis

2. Profit

Sure hope if we get a Dem president he'll reach across the aisle, find some common ground and learn to work with the other side.

Generally COVID-19 is not something that we should be panicking about it seems based on most scientific evidence (obvious exceptions for more vulnerable demographics).  That got me thinking about why has the reaction been so strong.  Yes it’s the age of social media and yes the media has sensationalized it but a lot of it really boils down to this incompetent administration.  I know this is not breaking news but after watching those press conference clips with Trump at CDC it just hammers the point home.  This response should be exhibit A in the general election fight against Trump.  I’m curious to see what Bloomberg’s folks will do with it.

I saw a CNN article that Larry Kudrow is considering ways to help Americans who may miss paychecks due to quarantine.

Who wants to bet this is in the form of tax cuts for the companies that employ them?

Heard him on cbnc this morning and when asked about that said something to the effect of I don't think we will need direct stimulus. There will not be a cash for clunker program, it will go directly to the auto manufacturer. Corp profit stays whole but we don't get the new car.

Yep, and there are a lot of people in this country that will look at this colossal failure of the federal government to protect its citizens and use it to reinforce their "government is the root of all evil" belief system while completely ignoring that the government failed its citizens because they elected a huge dipshit who purged the government of competence and expertise.

There is definitely something to this.  I'm on the fucking offensive everywhere I can be and not just where I'm an anonymous username on a message board.  Normally, the willful ignorance and elective reality associated with Trump and his supporters is aggravating.  I can see that they have a direct negative effect on certain groups, such as immigrants, but its a distal concern that I don't feel the direct effect of.

With the coronavirus handling, the abstractly negative effects of Trump being President have been directly injected into all our lives.  I have an 85 year old mother who lives in a dormitory setting not unlike that Washington elder care facility.  I bet 80% of the people on this BBS are in the same boat with a parent or grandparent.  Those family members may live or die depending on the effectiveness of our public health response to this emergency.
