It's stunning how many people don't know how to prepare their own meals.

It is, but at the same time, it's something I've been puzzling over for quite awhile. I can think of many different reasons for why it might be, but it is ironic that when I look around and see so many different information sources such as the internet, recipe to shopping list merging etc. I am taken aback why this skill is not utilized more in our homes. It is just my opinion, but the ala carte industry has caused issues in some homes where everyone thinks there should be individual choices with each meal as opposed to "this is our supper tonight." As parents, we went through that with our own children, accommodating preferences where we could and fortunately no allergies. One factor I've noticed among friends is that they don't spend a whole lot of time at home. Sports, church, school, work, more sports, lessons for activities, bar meet ups, etc. My oldest learned how to cook before she left home and she was somewhat surprised at how many of her peers don't really know how. I got a rather lamentful phone call one day regarding a room mate who had ruined a nonstick skillet using metal utensils among other things. (No pics, she's going to be running the country someday).

I don't want to derail so I'll stop but perhaps Americans will put on their Caps of Imagination and Creativity and instead of lamenting this new change in routine that is for the benefit of all use it as a challenge to see just what they can do when circumstances are new and different.

Seems the best way to get a Republican to ignore a serious threat to national security, like Islamic terror in 2001 or global pandemic in 2017, is to have a Democrat warn them about it. Just one more way in which Dubya foreshadowed the Trump administration. It the Dems are for it then we must be against it.

In early President Donald days, then-White House strategist Steve Bannon took over like a jug of Lysol. His mantra? Clean, vacuum, disinfect the swamp. In quick time, however, Bannon soon mounted up and rode off into the sunset.

He and DJT still communicate. He informed the president — in January — about this killer virus.

A) He knows China. B) Spent time in Wuhan. C) Has key sources. D) Recognized its government was concealing illness figures. E) No carbon was being produced. F) NASA satellite photos showed China’s industrial shutdown.

Bannon began shortwave radio podcast War Room — Pandemic â€” which the Web site translates into Mandarin and Cantonese. It’s broadcast on international radio networks, online at WarRoom.org, 11 a.m. daily on YouTube — 3.8 million daily downloads, 250 million listeners worldwide.

Fearing the entire system could come down, alarmed Chinese specialists, medical and financial, contacted him early. Medicines, computers, cellphone parts, much comes out of China. Talk began of starting some form of supply chain.

Just had a conversation with a neighbor as our dogs played.  The whole country is quarantined, so naturally we were talking about the coronavirus.

He was comparing the responses of the citizenry to the crisis.  He said here everyone rushed to by masks, whereas in the US they are rushing to buy guns.  He asked me why, and all I could do was shake my head and feel shame.

Yeah, they're mystified be the run on toilet paper too.  Here TP is readily available.

I guess the plan is to wrap yourself up like a mummy in toilet paper and shoot the virus if it gets too close.

It's because we are morons.  Plain and simple.  We are stupid stupid people who have no critical thinking skills.

I see sporadic talk here and there about the Army Corps of Engineers.

I have heard not a peep anywhere about USAMRIID.

One might think they would be playing a larger role here.

This is what I found

In August 2019, all research at USAMRIID was indefinitely put on hold after the Centers for Disease Control cited the organization for failing to meet biosafety standards

When we are forced to have dual incomes to have a decent lifestyle then we adapt to that lifestyle. I was surprised how few of my gen x peers could work on a car and millennials were even worse off.

Also your daughter’s roommate did her a favor, non-stick pans are fucking horrible.

I bought ammo. I was out and intended to go to the shooting range and driving range on my birthday in a few weeks. I also replaced my broken Xbox, which I suppose I can actually use.

Be careful about posting that anywhere other than CR, even though it fucking needs to be shared everywhere. You might get called an ALARMIST for trying to hold the president of the country accountable for fucking everyone's lives up.

When we finally have tests available CVS and Walgreens are going to provide drive thru testing sites. So before long (whenever the fuck we have the tests available) there will be a lot more access to testing, and in turn a huge increase in the number of infected. So that's good news, from the knowledge base perspective.

However honestly the additional testing is just providing numbers, the expanded testing will not be of any actual use beyond expanding the aggregate number of cases.  It will provide some relief to those that have the flu rather than coronavirus, but past that?  Most of us are going to get this thing and there is not a damn thing we can do about it, unless you plan on staying in your house for 18 months.  Which is what is going to be what we are going to ask our elderly to do.  IF they want to survive this thing.

Economic ruin is now a certainty, for huge swaths of small business owners and nearly all service industry employees. It will be interesting to see how hard the GOP will work not to help the little guys going forward.
