Trump has fucked up most if not all aspects of the response.

What is fantastical however is arguing that the counterfactual would have resulted in substantively different outcomes than all of the reasonable comparison groups.

Expand

If only there were examples of Democratic Party leadership regarding pandemics and setting up preparations/teams to respond quickly and effectively to MITIGATE the impact.   Nope, I can't think of a single one.

No one thinks that Hillary would have magically kicked its ass on day 1.  But she sure as shit would have had the plan already prepared, equipment for distribution, and our states and fed wouldn't be competing for the same supplies in a bidding war.  Because she understood government.  Oh she would also have a former President living with her who knew how to get shit done as well instead of a mail-order whore who doesn't really care.

You mean Joe Biden who was VP during the H1N1 and Ebola outbreaks? Who was part of the administration that created the now-disbanded Office of Pandemic Response?

Don't be foolish.

But the question should be would Hillary have handled  it better and the answer to that is also a resounding yes. Trump is a pathetic incompetent who isn't qualified to hold a seat on the Public School Board or City Council.

I get furious when I hear newspeople refer to Trump's "false claims." You're conspiring with Trump if you choose to euphemize what is commonly known as a goddamn lie.

Trump is lying. If you say something that benefits you but has no foundation in reality, you're fucking lying.

Call it.

"Isn't that bullshit, Mr. President? Just as your claims about the disease being eradicated after 15 cases? I mean, no responsible person could have suggested those things to you. They're bullshit, right?"

Do you think Biden would have implemented the travel restrictions on same timeline? I am not sure. I think he may have been more hesitant to pull that trigger. Note that I dont think trump Implemented the travel restrictions because he was taking the virus as seriously as he should have. All the evidence is to the contrary. But I do think that even a few days one way or the other could impact the numbers significantly.

Expand

Didn't he implement those travel restriction the exact same day he issued Visa restrictions on places like Nigeria and other African countries?  For all we know the China travel restriction was just cover for the African Visa restrictions.

Yep it’s annoying when the media just says false claims or trump is being misleading. He’s fucking straight up lying and the reason we know it is because he does it every single damn day.

I will guaranfuckingtee you one thing.  If Hillary had been elected President and corona virus occurred the death toll would be way worse.  Mainly because every single Republican dumb ass would listen to Fox and believe it was all a hoax or just a way for the Democrats to push Socialism on us. They would refuse to do social distancing, close their stores, etc... and go ahead with their lives even though people they know would be dropping dead left and right all around them.

She would have been blamed for the deaths in Wuhan. She'd be facing her fourth impeachment. GOPs don't give a fuck. Not a single one. Damn them all.

They aren't going to call it a lie in the headlines. They're still clinging to those norms. The Gray Lady is not going to call the President a liar or refer to what he says as a lie. That's not how it's done.

You're going to have to fill in the blanks or get news from somewhere else. Mother Jones and The Nation can call him a hot ass liar, but it ain't happening at the NYT. And that's fine. We can poke them with a stick. Holler about it and those that agree will cheer and the Trumpist don't care.

He's fooling only his base with Dumpsterfireside chats. Those polls @EMAWesome ran in here with ain't looking so great now. He's doing himself harm. Don't stop him. You can't really. God knows we've tried. Trump is going to be himself. Assholish, blustering, blathering, and in search for accolades. Thin-skinned and when a perceived threat appears, instantly on the attack.

Let him keep rambling. Let the NYT and the WaPo politely call it something other than a lie.

It won't make a damn bit of difference.

He said like three different times "who has ever even heard of 180 million masks?". What a weird thing to say during a pandemic.

"Well, I think most of us have heard of 170 million masks. Maybe half have heard of 175 million masks. And maybe a few have heard of 178 million masks. But no Mr. Dotard, no one has ever heard of 180 million masks."

Expand

The President likes big numbers. It's a compensation. It's also his weakness.

However, if you take those numbers and examine them more closely, you begin to see how he lost his family fortune. I'm no math  whiz, but knowing that there are X number of healthcare providers, support staff, etc and they need to change masks Y times per day and they do this for Z days/weeks while performing their care and the numbers don't seem so large anymore. That doesn't include others who may need those masks in order to safely perform other related tasks in the vicinity of those employees either. He has an appreciation for big numbers but he doesn't know what to do with them and he damn sure doesn't know how to measure intangible costs.  It's why when he is touting the number 2.2 million (projected fatalities w/o mitigation) it is so cringy. He cannot see the pain and suffering that those numbers represent to all of us. He also cannot see why caring and sensitivity during a crisis represents leadership perhaps more than any other trait a President possesses. It makes him or her human. By all means, make the tough decisions, be honest and frank about the choices a country is facing, but if one cannot do those with compassion, then one is unfit for the Presidency.

He’s still going to win. We’ll be JUST recovered enough in November that he’ll claim that he saved us all, and it will work.

The middle 1/3rd voters know what they have in Trump.  He won't have enough red state/base left by November.  The important thing is whether Trump and McConnell and Roberts rig the election.

Lol at anyone thinking we’ll have anything resembling fair and open elections in November. This virus is going to come back twice as bad in October. Every state controlled by Republicans will refuse to allow mail in ballots and will shut down every polling location in any neighborhood that is less than 95% white.

Yep.  Same thing with the $300 or so that GW sent out years ago.

Going to have to take a new piece of legislation to make this tax-free.  And if that doesn't happen, imagine the outrage in Spring 21 as people are doing their taxes.

I was watching the President while Dr Fauci was speaking. The body language was all but, "Blah blah blah. I'm not listening to you little man. I don't like you, I'm smarter than you and I'm done with you." The propaganda being pumped out is that Dr Fauci is a Hillary plant, has an agenda to bring down the country, etc and like the posts that copied the folks over on the Ag site, there are plenty of people who share that delusion. Trump is itching to fire this guy and I have no idea who behind the scenes is talking him down from that, but thank the Lord it hasn't happened....yet.

What happens to Fauci and how Trump handles it, plus the propaganda spin will have consequences. Most folks haven't been paying attention to the firings over at the DOJ or with the DNI, but they can relate to a doctor. He talks like a doctor and he has the mannerisms of a doctor. While the cult will swallow any explanation, there will be others who sit in judgement of the President who didn't listen to the people who cared the most about American lives.

I have no doubt that they will try to do exactly what you are suggesting, but it's going to be damn near impossible to refuse to allow mail in ballots while the virus is roaring twice as bad as it is now.

I think my husband has a firewall on the computer and that prevents me from accessing the Reddit link but here is a very long winded explanation that at the very bottom seems to imply that. (advance on a credit)

Where were they stored, under John Wayne Gacy's house?

Orangebloods isn't much better although there are probably a few more diverging opinions than what shows up on Texags.

Technically nothing, but if enough states do it, and there are orders to stay inside because the virus is ravaging still/again, then the optics of fighting against mail in ballots will be severe.
