And they have a PDF you can print out so you can have your very own card exempting you from ever wearing a mask.  They also have state by state PDF's so you can shove it in the face of a jackbooted government official, or the barista at Starbucks when you are asked to wear a mask:

I%20am%20exempt%20from%20any%20ordinance

Screen%20Shot%202020-06-16%20at%204_33_0

That looks Russian.

Catalina was mind-boggling last weekend.  75% weren't wearing masks.  And they had been Gestapo up until recently.  In fact completely shut down to non-residents.  But I couldn't believe the lack of mask wearing.
We rented the top floor and top deck of The London a couple of years ago for our company Christmas party.  That top deck is legit.

Question on spreaders.  Just found out that a friend of a family member's threw a party.  The party thrower KNEW they had Covid (positive test) and were still within the window for spreading.

Is that a criminal act?  Knowing you can pass on a potentially lethal virus?  Is there any recourse?

Family member was not at the party but lives with someone who was.  Family member then spent time around 8-10 other members of my family before we knew about the spreader.  Family member did not know about the spreader until after the event.  I dont blame the family member, I blame the person who knew they were positive and partied.

Can I fuck this person's world up? Because I feel like i should be able to.

I agree with what everyone here is saying about states opening too early, and probably it’s been politics driven. However there could have been a bigger motivator for the “early openers” that isn’t being discussed.

There are likely carefully guarded studies down in the bowels of our government showing economic projections of a Great Depression worse than the 1930’s unless we quickly get the economy re-started again. How quick? Hard to say. No one’s talking.

No one in Federal or State government can come right out and say that was the driver for opening too early because it would then become a self-fulfilling prophecy. So instead they have to look stupid in front of their constituents.

If this logic is true, and good lord I hope it’s not, then a bad second wave could mean we are headed into a very bad place economically but no one has been given visibility into that yet for obvious reasons.

Merry Xmas!

All true. Here's what's really disheartening to me:
702-B012-A-80-CD-4932-9-BB1-357-D948-C7-

See that from day about 20 to about day 90 where we bent the curve downward quite a bit? That cost us a sacrifice of trillions and trillions of dollars in the economy. 10 days later, all of that progress that cost us trillions?

You can sue someone for knowingly passing on a sexually transmitted disease.  I believe there is also some criminal liability as well.  Not a lawyer.  I don’t see why this would be all that different.

According to the March 24, 2020 DOJ memo on crimes under Covid-19, YES under terrorism laws for use of biological agents. From https://www.justice.gov/file/1262771:

Quote

Second, you may encounter criminal activity ranging from malicious hoaxes, to threats targeting specific individuals or the general public, to the purposeful exposure and infection of others with COVID-19. Because coronavirus appears to meet the statutory definition of a "biological agent" under 18 U.S.C. § 178(1), such acts potentially could implicate the Nation's terrorism-related statutes. See, e.g., id. § 175 (development/possession of a biological agent for use as a weapon); id. § 875 (threats by wire); id. § 876 (threats by mail); id. § 1038 (false information and hoaxes regarding biological weapons); id. § 2332a (use o f a weapon involving a biological agent). Threats or attempts to use COVID-19 as a weapon against Americans will not be tolerated.

That might make sense for deaths, I don't really see how it correlates to # of cases.  Spread (especially at this point) is more about culture and lack of discipline than a health care system.

Bout damn time. By banishing the Task Force, the QAnon conspiracy theorists have filled the vacuum and the South ran amok. This evening while I was cooking, I heard on NPR that Georgia isn't planning on restricting much of anything.

#ScarfPatrol

#Dr.FauciGonnaBeGrouchy

Considering that most of the medical staff were at the hearing, this could be interesting in the Q & A.

Interesting thread on how deaths may be lagging because it’s younger people getting it.

Thanks for posting that. He was suggesting with the Iran example that it stretched the deaths to 3-4 weeks and that makes some sense as the young people don't exist in a vacuum. I've switched to one particular grocery store because a closer one has a younger customer base and I have noticed the mask usage was poor. Shopping in groups, no masks, no distancing, and so on my end: none of my money. I didn't want to 'Karen' and talk to the manager, but realistically it's why I won't shop there. If they won't require masks and the customers aren't going to wear them voluntarily, then why would I want to go? I'm not interested in getting sick.

Member how Washington state was hit hard at the beginning and had that really shitty nursing home situation? And how Trump has attacked Inslee for being incompetent? And how, despite being basically ground zero for Covid in he US, Washington state is solidly in the bottom half of cases and deaths per capita, despite them being the canary in the coal mine for the rest of the god damn country? Jesus christ, it feels like Trump has been president my entire adulthood and I'm 32 fucking years old.

You should blame the family member as well though. No one should be going to parties right now for this very reason.

My older daughter and I need to get an antibody test. Is there a way to tell that I’m getting the test for this specific Coronavirus?

I assume that the antibody tests being used discriminate well between the novel corona virus versus the shit that causes the common cold and other corona viruses.  Has anyone see information that suggests otherwise?

Good thread from a former insurance executive explaining the lies the insurance companies tell about the Canadian health care system and how it relates to CV-19.

So many people in healthcare shit on Medicare.  I don’t get it.  Well I do...the propaganda works.  M4A would be fine.

Even many doctors think it’s some bogeyman.  I think AMA finally supported M4A...well they left a lobbyist group against it.  That’s a big step.

I’m only worried about the administration and abuse but there’s both of those things with the assholes in private insurance too, so that can’t be the roadblock if we are being honest.

They’re all supposed to, yes.  But many are too sensitive to many coronaviruses and just as many seem to be lacking any sensitivity.  That’s why we are hardly relying on those - very disappointing.

Just read this lay article on covid19 Ab tests.  It's vexing.

Gold-standard review does 'not support the roll out of coronavirus antibody tests'

Overall I don’t have an issue with this article but this type of shit drives me insane:

‘Experts have warned, however, the coronavirus is novel. It is therefore unclear how long immunity lasts or even if it exists at all.’

Just STFU, to act like NO immunity might exist is dumber than buttchugging bleach to cure the virus.  At least that will potentially kill you AND the virus.

Ok, let's spell this out...

College age family member.  Their apartment mate went to a party.  Apartment Mate finds out Party Thrower was tested positive for Covid but still had the party.  College age family member was NOT at the party but is now exposed because Party Thrower had the party even though they knew they were positive.  College age family member did not attend.  Only found out AFTER the fact.

It's more relatable when read with a Geordie Brit accent.

Yeah, I don't get this either. We have nearly 10 million cases of infection, and people making lots of scare porn based on n of one anecdotal reports and cases, whether that relates to re-infection or lung transplants or whatever.

But I can still buttchug wine, right? Or hang out with people who do, provided that masks are worn and social distance is observed?

They all ‘should’.  But to be safe go to a major academic place or Quest/LabCorp.

Good advice

I had heard that a bunch of the tests on offer did not.

Go to quest or labcorp as suggested, and don't trust the result one way or the other. Any fever or strongly suggestive symptom should be treated as covid and isolated until ruled out imo.

Here’s my concern about “immunity” -

Common cold coronaviruses don’t offer lifetime immunity. Getting the common cold once doesn’t make one immune to common colds for the rest of their lives.

Same with the flu.

Some viruses do confer lifetime immunity as it were - chicken pox, measles etc.

Why are we sure that coronavirus falls into the “lifetime immunity” bucket and not the cold and flu bucket?

We don't. My bet is this becomes endemic unless a vaccine that makes that happen is actually developed. We could just be looking at flu and covid season, get your flu and covid shots, hide your olds,
etc.

Who in the hell has said there will be lifetime immunity? In fact, pretty much everyone has said the opposite... that immunity will be short term. How long remains to be seen.

Well, we still have had a few shitty nursing home situations in the Seattle area... one of which is run by a (you're never going to believe this) conservative evangelical organization.

Otherwise, we are doing pretty well as a state... well, except for that area on the eastern side of the state, where the voters are conservative and there are lots of agricultural workers who didn't have great health care and who were all deemed "essential" (read as "come to work or lose your job- and did we mention we have INS on speed dial?").

I’ve seen lots of people brush it off with a “Everyone should just go ahead and get infected so they can be immune and we can achieve herd immunity and then we can be done with it”.

I may be reading between the lines but that attitude implies they think once that happens then society will be done with it .

I just think a lot of low informed people or people in deliberate denial hear “immunity” and “herd immunity” and assume it’s a one and done.

And I think that misconception is driving a lot of these dumb behaviors we’re all bitching about.
