He said he has been sharing his changed thinking with several unvaccinated friends.

“We should have had covid knocked in the head if there weren’t so many hardheaded people like me,” he reflected. “I think we could have saved more than a few lives.”

No shit.

Brother in law is not intubated as far as I can tell (it is insane how specific you have to be to try and get actual information from my wife or her family - I specifically asked my sister in law in text "is he intubated?" and got "he is responding to oxygen but still not able to move without being winded".

Now his vaccinated mom has no taste or smell and is going to get checked out. She was going to parties and shit despite the BIL who lives with her, because they are fucking stupid.

I think that the data lends to a few different story lines.

But when a NY politician starts tweeting about Texas surpassing NY in COVID deaths, and posters here start masturbating over that tweet, I think that's is appropriate to point out how foolish it is to compare the NY death rate to Texas'.

There are definitely several story lines when you look at the death statistics. The overarching storyline being that most of the deaths were largely preventable. And Texas should absolutely be embarrassed about passing NY in deaths, regardless of other states being worse at mitigating the pandemic.

For your family’s sake l, I hope they survive their stupidity.  I have plenty of stupid relatives.  I still don’t want them to suffer and die.

That talk show host I keep seeing mentioned…well fuck that guy.

If that’s accurate that tells quite the story of Texas stupidity thanks to Abbot and the treason party of willful ignorance.

I honestly think that's why Mitch all of the sudden made a high-profile push for vaccines, along with various other Republicans, and even Fox News a tiny little bit.

Well, not necessarily that it will kill off their base, it'll kill plenty sure, but it will also affect a whole shitload.  When you or a friend or loved one end up in the hospital over something that Republicans had been pretending was a hoax to hurt Trump, even if you are lucky enough not to see a substantial hospital bill from it, you're still going to have some doubt creeping into your mind about the GOP.

Republicans have to push that the Trump vaccine will save everybody, because otherwise if things continue to worsen, there will be more and more people that are not quite so enthusiastic to vote Republican next year (not saying they'll vote Democrat, but they could easily stay home).

Dude, every time I call my dad in Arizona to chat, his dumb ass wife jumps on to make some hair-brained joke about how we must be fairing in southern California with all the mandates being enforced to keep everyone locked in their houses. Bitch, the vaccinated have been without masks for a couple of months, and they're not "passporting" anyone...just like most of the rest of the country. They are just fed a constant diet of absolute lies.

I've had multiple relatives try to tell me that it's the illegal aliens that are spreading covid all over Texas.

No idiots, it's the 10 million legal Texans who aren't vaccinated.

Counterpoint: My wife attends (well attended) a large Baptist church in the Austin area.  A whole shitload of the younger members gave absolutely no fucks about the elderly members, and made sure everybody knew that they didn't believe in covid or masks or any of that.  Plenty bailed on the church last year when they started doing virtual and then doing masks when things opened back up.

My MAGA brother in law apparently isn’t getting vaccinated because the government shouldn’t be getting up in people’s business. I thought “hmm, I wonder if he realizes he’s not actually all that young anymore and that he’s fat “. Anyways guess who is in the hospital with Covid and oxygen down to 80. I guess I need to look up how worried we should be. He’s a good guy, just an idiot. Fuck he’s not even all that stupid, just the right kind of stupid to take the conspiracy theory shortcut to feeling smart. Hope he recovers and I can give him some shit.

Don't give him shit, give him hydroxychloroquine.

Texas and New York deaths timelines:

I think that a discussion around preventable deaths state by state would be interesting. Citing death statistics out of context, OTOH, not so much. BTW, the two charts you linked use very different scales, it is misleading to stand them up next to each other without pointing that out.  Below is a better representation.

It's impossible to have an honest discussion about death rates between states without normalizing to population and a variety of other factors including waves.  What the NY state politician tweets is the same kind of bullshit that the anti-vaxxers spout when they do the "OMG 1/2 of all cases in Israel are occurring among the vaccinated!!" nonsense.  Misleading statistics are misleading, unless I guess we are just politically masturbating. I agree that there are lessons to be learned, and those discussions are interesting and should be had.

Israel now seeing a rise in hospitalizations after 11 days of being pretty flat. From 167 yesterday to 201 today. From 4 intubated to 22 in 24 hours.

We don't know how many are vaccinated versus unvaccinated, they haven't released that info that I've seen since the 21st.

Quote

There were 2,435 new coronavirus cases in Israel over the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry announced on Saturday evening.

They announced that 98,759 tests were conducted, with 2.49% of cases returning a positive result.

As of Saturday evening, 201 patients are in serious condition with 26 intubated, a rise of 22 in 24 hours.

That's a shit load of tests in a 24 hour period. Israel testing the fuck out of people in their tracing programs. Given that fact, the positive cases don't necessarily concern, but would be nice to see the breakouts on the hospitalized by vax status and age.

SEC sports forums like TexAgs, SECRant/Tiger Droppings, etc. are the only sports forums where I saw the fucking Qanon idiots take hold and pump their battshittery out with the blessing of their mods.

When I look at my my idiot relatives and friends and acquaintances who are into Qanon, I don't think "hey I need to attempt considerations and engage in the higher order thinking that is necessary to converse with those who think JFK Jr. is still alive and going to run with Trump in 2024, who think Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks are drinking the blood of children to keep themselves young or whatever (it's obviously not working), who think Joe Biden and Donald Trump swapped faces or who think that Biden was only inaugurated so that Trump could have the military arrest him!"

It's the same reason why, when I see a baby, I don't think "hey I need to attempt considerations and engage in the higher order thinking that is necessary to converse with this child who, if given the chance, will shove his hand into a dirty diaper and proceed to create artwork all over the walls with his own shit."

Holy shit pin this post.

  Hide contents

Dommes using their considerable persuasive powers on their subs to serve the common good is not new: in the lead-up to the 2020 election, for instance, some dommes told Rolling Stone that they were commanding their subs to vote for now-President Joe Biden. But the dommes I spoke with didn’t see instituting vaccine requirements as a political issue at all, or even an ethical one; rather, they see it both as a self-protective measure (indeed, most sex workers are independent contractors, and thus risk having to pay exorbitant amounts for health care out-of-pocket if they get sick). It’s also a concrete way to measure subs’ devotion. “Someone who’s in service to us should respect our boundaries,” says Daddy An Li, a domme based in Los Angeles who requires proof of vaccination from subs. “Either you want to serve us and you respect us, or you don’t.”

Others, like Goddess Snow, also see it as something of an educational opportunity. “For me, I don’t want someone to do what I tell them to just because I told them to do it. I want them to do it because I’m right,” she says. She will often supply vaccine-hesitant subs with literature attesting to the safety of the vaccine, so they can make their decision for themselves. “It’s one thing to tell someone, ‘you cant masturbate for a week.’ It’s another thing to say ‘I want you to take this foreign substance into your body,'” she says. “I don’t want to be responsible for that. So much of BDSM is about bodily autonomy, and I need them to have bodily autonomy there.”

Mistress Manouche, a domme based in East Sussex, United Kingdom, also requires proof of vaccination if subs wish to session with her. She has specific health concerns: a former leukemia patient and bone marrow transplant recipient, she lives with elderly parents and operates her dungeon from their shared home. Though she initially asked subs to wear masks, she found that wasn’t feasible in a dungeon space. “What we do is very intimate,” she tells Rolling Stone. “I spit in my subs’ mouths. I’m touching them. I use bullwhips, but you can’t just bullwhip someone 10 foot away. You’re in a closed space, and it’s not always practical to just wear masks. I couldn’t work properly and do what I normally do if I have to keep my distance.”

Indeed, depending on what their specialty is, some dommes just don’t feel comfortable enough doing in-person work unless subs are vaccinated. “I specialize in toilet play” — essentially, “shitting on dudes” — “and I can’t do it with people who are unvaccinated,” says Daddy An Li.

Like many dommes, Mistress Manouche’s in-person business was decimated by the pandemic; though she tried to transition her business to online, she found that she got quickly burnt out by the content churn, and shifted to selling cards and chocolates just to make enough money to buy cigarettes. “It was absolutely awful,” she says. After she got her first Covid vaccine shot in January and her second in April, Mistress Manouche started opening her doors again and requiring proof of vaccination at her sessions. At first, “they were a bit iffy,” she says, citing one in particular who begged for an exemption from the requirement, saying he would get a test every day if it meant he could see her. But she managed to convince him to get the shot, as well as five other subs who were previously on the fence. “If it meant not sessioning with me, they’re going to get their jabs,” she says.

In many ways, the BDSM community has been uniquely equipped to deal with the curveballs thrown by the pandemic, says Mistress Marley, a Manhattan-based professional domme and financial dominatrix who also requires her subs to be vaccinated to session with her. “The BDSM industry is really big on safety protocols in general. It’s all about safety and consent. We have safe words and we want to make sure people are safe. We look out for each other because things can get really physical,” she tells Rolling Stone. “The industry overall has been about safety way before Covid.”

That said, not every domme is making vaccination a requirement, particularly when doing so could negatively affect their bottom line. Snow says the subject often comes up in a Slack channel she runs for sex workers, and that during the peak of the pandemic, there was a long-running debate regarding the ethics of seeing clients in-person. “The sticky thing is, in-person sex workers’ incomes were decimated during the pandemic,” she says. “So there was a lot of shame that was happening: certain people who were more privileged were shaming others for taking sessions.” Similar conversations have been taking place since the vaccine became widely available: “some people don’t have the ability to say ‘If you’re not vaxxed, you can’t come.’ They have to make decisions based on money rather than safety,” she says.

Indeed, adopting a mandatory vaccination policy has hurt Wicked Eden’s bottom line, and Snow estimates she’s seen about a 30 percent reduction in session bookings since instituting the mandate. She also says that since announcing the policy, she was “inundated” with angry emails citing misinformation related to the vaccine. “It was link after link after link to all of these very strange websites trying to convince people vaccinations were fraudulent, to the point where we were like, ‘is this going to be an issue?'” she says.

Yet the vast majority of vaccine-hesitant subs, she says, have agreed to get the vaccine. And afterward, “I’m always like ‘good job, I’m proud of you! Good boy!,'” she says.

Dommes get subs to get shit done.

This. It is the fascist playbook. Everyone should watch the Netflix doc about how fascism happens. Not in a “YouTube do your own research” moron way. Same song, verse # 436,894.  Watch the short video about the Missouri hospital that is attached to this article. Upshot: Missouri man and his wife didn't want to get the vaccine because of the unknowns. Now he's been in the hospital for three weeks in the ICU, struggling for breath.  He and his wife have changed their minds about the vaccine.  They interview him and, in between gasps, he says he would get the vaccine on account of how he has suffered.  Then he utters the operative phrase: "We're a strong conservative family ..."  As if somehow being anti-vaccine/anti-science is a conservative tenet or value.

I mean, even conservatives are telling them to get the vaccine. And TRUMP himself got it as quickly as he could.   And this couple clearly has co-morbidities and they're raising an overweight son who will weigh 300 .lbs by the time he's 30.

It just goes on and on with these assholes.

The Florida hospital numbers are crazy. If most of the population was vaccinated, the case counts would be less worrisome, but they’ve quadrupled the admits in a very short time.

The numbers of children and staff being sent home from camps in Texas seems to indicate this is going to accelerate here at a greater rate this month. Prepare accordingly folks.

I would love for it to stay that way, but it isn't going to happen. Delta just got here in force and we're starting to see reports of large numbers of breakthrough infections, which matches early trends in Israel, which is about a month ahead of us in the process. Very few of us were masking and isolating the last 2 weeks, so you're going to see a lot of cases in the next few days.

Hopefully the knowledge that people can be reinfected will get them into N95s and socially distancing for the next few weeks and it'll keep breakthroughs down in the long run.

It's really annoying how many articles classify somebody as "having no pre-existing conditions" then they show them and they're clearly obese.

Most comorbidity indexes have obesity as a factor for a reason.

The younger kid side of my daughter's camp was closed early. They're separated from the older kids. 25 staff members tested positive. All unvaxxed except one. College aged counselors that were going offsite on their one day off a week and bringing it back most likely.

This is a camp where you're living outside for two weeks. The spread should be lovely in the schools.

Seems like most comparisons give us the life saving advantage. Truly mysterious.

There aren't large numbers of breakthrough infections.  Maybe they're asymptomatic and not getting tested but there aren't millions of vaxxed people getting covid.  There aren't even thousands.

The right wing misinformation campaign is working overtime on this.
