In their defense, a large percentage of them couldn't smell or taste anything while they were there, so many didn't notice...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-08-25/china-warns-of-retaliation-ahead-of-u-s-report-on-virus-origins?sref=knoriXqz

Basically, sounds like a second shot of J&J causes a strong surge in antibodies, so I expect second shots to be on the menu soon.

Second, they said that prevention of infection by vaccines was less under Delta (DUH), but it seems like they prevent serious sickness, hospitalization and death really well, even if you have a breakthrough case. That taken with the info I found above really tells me that everyone should be vaccinated.  It is the only way out, even if boosters are necessary for a bit.

And the last is a fun one.  Basically, China says that they will retaliate against anyone who questions if COVID came from their labs.  They say they will "continue to cooperate" with the WHO, but I think we all know the WHO has been a complete pussy when it comes to China.  Feels like China is a major bad actor here (I know, shocking).

Holy shit ... this is just so revealing.   I hope I can post it in a way that makes sense. The 56 year old coach of Allen High School Football, James Shillam,  died of Covid on Sunday. He was not vaccinated. His family says it was a personal choice. You can read and watch a video about that here:

https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/new-allen-high-school-football-coach-dies-after-weeks-long-covid-fight/287-d4371a45-963b-4db1-a00e-dc656d55ef34

I went to see his FB page and found his wife's.  It's a WILD ride. It's here:

https://www.facebook.com/kyp.shillam

I'm fairly sure that she's going to either delete or hide her page so here are some screen shots.  She talks about things like demonic possession, the rapture, asks if anybody knows where to get hydroxochloroquine etc...  And apparently her son Spenser has the disease, too.  And you read the responses from her friends about how Satan does this and Satan does that and how "the enemy"  is among us.  It's mass psychosis.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not happy this man died. According to those who were around him, he was a good man and Allen was "his dream job."  What I don't get is why these nuts don't believe that the same God who is capable of all the wonderful things they believe he is capable of is also not capable of giving us the brains to understand a virus and produce a vaccine to take it on.  There's a huge disconnect in the way they approach this and I don't think we're ever going to get past it.

Let her keep fuckin' that chicken and see how it works out for her.  Evangelicals are fucking morons.

And, imo, the students of Allen HS are better off w/out this nutjob as a coach.  Good riddance.

I've seen a lot of inconsistent ideas when it comes to risk management from the faithful. "I have a gun for home defense in case someone breaks inside my house." Then the same people will say "I don't need a vaccine because God will protect me from the virus."

My parents are active in their church, which is Southern Baptist, but they think people that say, "I don't need a vaccine because God will protect me," is fucking stupid.  They both think God helps those that help themselves, and taking the vaccine is part of that.

Hell, if you know evangelicals who refuse to take the vaccine, pose this question..."How do you know that the vaccine is not God's way of protecting you?  He works in mysterious ways."  You can take it even further by saying, "As you believe, we have a vaccine that was developed in record time (Narrator: It really wasn't as it build on ongoing studies from SARS and MERS), and as God is a worker of miracles, isn't it in the realm of possibility that he had a heavy hand in the development? That is exactly how God tends to work.  Through people."

Say all that, and watch their heads explode.

I have a sister in law that is along these lines.  Her introduction to me was right around time that the Beslan school siege was playing out.  It was the Russian school hostage thing where a whole bunch of kids died when the Russians said fuck it and went in to end the standoff.

We were talking about it over lunch, and she said, "You know, its probably better all those children died, instead of having to live in a socialist country.  If it were my kids, I would rather them be in heaven with the lord than to live on earth in Russia."

I remember doing a double take, but we were with the southern baptist side of the family, and conversation continued along those lines with pretty much everyone there except me in agreement with her take.  This was back in 2004 or whatever.  They have not gotten less nutty in the interim.  None of them are vaxxed, they all are pounding the HQ and Invermectin, all have had covid with no hospitalizations except my step mother -- the matriarch who is somehow doing a Neo bullet time dance with covid-19.

It's rare but when someone goes off on how they can't wait to get to heaven to be with my Lord and Savior, I tune out anything that person says. I know the reply that most of us want to make to that person but I just avoid any conversation with them.

They know it because ebil libs are getting vaccinated which makes it de facto work of the devil.

I believe they mainly avoid vaccines because of politcal viewpoint even though they state it as a religious one. They're real god has become the Hate Engine which defines them by what they are not: ebil libs hellbent on destroying this country, throwing God out of schools, and including your nigras in the democracy.

You will be challenged if you state it as a political stand, but you are untouchable if you site the Will of God. It makes people fly planes into buildings to kill a few thousand or refuse vaccination to kill hundreds of thousands. Both are suicide missions in the name of gawd.

Blind faith applied to political reasoning is another poison for our republic.

If there are gods, I sometimes like to suggest that the divine order of the universe is founded on irony and self-fulfilling prophecy. These self-identified Christians won't act to protect the people around them; they and the people around them may become seriously ill and even die as a result. How does that work out for you on Judgement Day?

I.W.

Oh, I know.  That is why I said what I did.  These people are not real Christians.  Remember, Christ loved everyone.  These people are full of nothing but hate.  Start pointing that out, and they cannot come back on it.  They are completely ignorant in a lot of ways.

Off topic, but that has to be why the Catholic Church made suicide a mortal sin. Heck, if heaven is so great, I think I'll just head up there right now!

With a philosophy of life is better than death, you don't have to make up such rules. Turn it around, you've got some thinking to do to keep the sheep from running off a cliff while singing.

It's the vast, heaping, overwhelming majority, no matter how much you wish it weren't the case.

Let's walk through this.  Biden won the election 81M-74M.  If the NBC poll is to be believed, the breakdown of vaccinated voters (not adults) is

Biden voters vaxxed = 81M x 0.91 = 74M

Trump voters vaxxed = 74M x 0.5 = 37M

Total = 111M

There are about 256M adults (18+) in the US.  So, 111M (43% of adults) were vaxxed and voted for Biden or Trump.  Lots of adults (145M) are unaccounted for in that measurement.  The correlation is pretty damn clear, though.

I'm curious to see how the deaths break down - especially in states like Arizona and Georgia. Not sure if that's even possible.
