That SMU band guy in the far right was my band director in high school for a couple of years.  He was a total dipshit, just like he looks in the picture.  He also side hustles as an evangelical pastor, which amplifies the dipshittery by an order of magnitude.

Earl trucking the fuck out of that SMU player while dong the heisman pose a few feet off the ground is a masterpiece!

Broward County could lose a few of my HS classmates & I definitely wouldn't care in the slightest.  I could name a few names... & One of them did succumb to Covid 19 around 10 days ago.

Another, he is a "doctor" (of chiropractic) & is a Trumper who thinks "this whole Covid thing is overblown" - STILL keeps to that idea - even though BOTH OF HIS PARENTS DIED FROM COVID!!!

"They had comorbidities & were over 75 years old each - it would have happened either way." ~Sentiments expressed from FB posts.

Given that some vaccine reluctance related to testing the vaccines on fetal cells, it is rather interesting that the same objection is not raised with respect to Regeneron as its manufacturer also tested the antibody treatment potency on similar cells.

Regeneron? What about Tylenol?

Again, the only biblical objection I’m aware of is that the mother wasn’t killed, too.

Incorrect.

Immunity wanes. This is becoming endemic. 30% of our population relies on 7th Century logic on the benefits of wallowing in a cesspool during a pandemic.

China is committed to Zero Covid.

Do the math.

CDC:  protection offered by vaccines may be waning, but Moderna is considerably better than Pfizer:

"Data collected from 18 states between March and August suggest the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine reduces the risk of being hospitalized with COVID-19 by 91% in the first four months after receiving the second dose. Beyond 120 days, however, that vaccine efficacy drops to 77%.

Meanwhile, Moderna’s vaccine was 93% effective at reducing the short-term risk of COVID-19 hospitalization and remained 92% effective after 120 days.

Overall, 54% of fully vaccinated Americans have been immunized with the Pfizer shot."

I do wonder if some of the Pfizer results are influenced by improper storage as IIRC, it needed to be stored at a significantly lower temperature relative to Moderna.

More likely the dosage amounts and gaps between shots but my expertise is limited to internet sleuthing.

I have not seen my parents in over 2 years, and I will not see them until they come visit me.  I refuse to step foot in Texas since they have basically said that I am not worthy enough to make decisions about my own fucking body.

You have serious issues. Get help.

Interdasting. My band director in high school was also from SMU and also a total dipshit. I don't think it is the same one though.

I don’t know anything about her parents and don’t care to. But her post read as “I’m refusing to see my parents because they live in Texas.” In which case she clearly has issues and needs help.

We should make a new thread where people describe the nature of strained or limited family relationships and then people come in and judge.

My MiL was fucking around throughout the entire pandemic - posting pictures on social media of them drinking at bars and shit in the summer of 2020 (and throughout, I just mean after it was a big deal and before vaccines were available) so we haven't seen them since March 2020 (also btw 2 years for Penelope includes 1.5 years of the current social hell we continue to live in because of the parade of fools surrounding us). That was strictly on the basis of "you are fucking around, we are not, we'll see you when you stop fucking around or the finding out has ended" although it was complicated by wife getting pregnant and us moving to North Carolina. Apparently the MiL is butthurt (she unfriended us on facebook until she found out that her daughter was pregnant, was nice to get a break from her stupid mlm shit) and is waiting on us to explicitly tell her she needs to come see the baby and maybe offer an apology for not seeing her between her visits to karaoke and the chili parlor. That's not going to happen (and it's not my relationship to manage). I guess we'll see her if we make it down for Thanksgiving but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

On the "give a shit about what other people do" front, I honestly don't really care if they live or die. Even when my brother in law (who I like despite the fact that he's an idiot) was in the hospital my emotions were in the ballpark of "ah that's a fucking bummer but I guess that's what he chose. this is going to be a complicated thing for my wife if he croaks". But, you know, living in a society and all, our actions impact other people. Bama Chick highlighted a bunch of reasons why you would continue to care (if you weren't a big piece of shit) but another one is because the population of fools continue to incubate new variants that may cause all sorts of problems, as we have already seen with the delta variant. It'd be pretty neat to be able to go back to living our lives and we kinda need the morons to either die or get with the program.

Not to mention that if someone requires acute medical care unrelated to covid because the anti-vax, anti-science freedom fighters don't have the balls to ride or die with "God's plan" and stay away from the hospital when they crash. Nope, the anti-vaxxers are taking the coward's way out and the other folks have to take a number and hope they win the triage lottery for the heart attack they suffered or the car crash they were involved in for the time being.

@Biff Tannen, I do not think my parents are pieces of shit.  Do not put words in my mouth.  I think they are completely misguided.  My dad is a one issue voter (2nd Amendment) and my mom isn't political, and tends to vote R due to taxes.  I have invited my parents to visit me.  And if they want to see me, that is what they will do.

I refuse to step foot in the state of Texas becuase Texas is fucking lost.  It is run by the lunatics.  Why should I help out a state economically (which a visit does since it is supporting businesses based in Texas who are so far staying silent to the craziness going on) which is so diametrically opposed to women?!?  People that act against their own self interest are dumb, and stepping foot in Texas would ABSOLUTELY be against my own self interest and the interest of other women.  @StruggleBus, you are breathtakingly stupid.  Do us all a favor and post less.

I'm fine with that. Just keep you and your ilk--that would literally rather die to make some dumbass political point--the fuck out of hospitals, so the rest of us can live our lives. Easy peasy.

someone should really go talk to those kids with leukemia about the importance of our individual liberties and personal choice when it comes to this specific vaccine which is different than the other ones that are broadly mandated. they can shout at them in the parking lot while they wait for treatment. maybe bring some signs in case the windows are rolled up

Relationships are complicated in the best of times, but the last 18 months has placed a burden on many Americans.

1.  As a previous posted stated, stay out of the hospitals and stop clogging up the health care system and running up expensive bills for the rest of us.   Stay home and treat yourself there and stop using socialist institutions like hospitals and 911 to subsidize your “freedom”.

2.  Since the variants form because of rampant spread, predominantly amongst the unvaxxed, and since the development of these new variants most certainly effect the rest of us tremendously, society gets a say in this…sorry.  Just like government gets to mandate all the other vaccines you had to take your entire life.

IMO we carve out a big section of Montana/the Dakotas and allow people who don't want society impacting their freedoms to live there. We can move all their shit up there, build a wall to keep the socialism out, they don't have to pay any taxes and don't face any regulations, just complete liberty and freedom. I don't know if there are any bald eagles up there but maybe we provide some as a token. We'll have to check with the Native Americans but maybe we can give them Mississippi in exchange for Pine Ridge/Ft Peck/etc. Will have to tear down all the infrastructure obviously, because of the socialism. No vaccinations, no taxes, no nanny state, it will be a paradise of freedom, and the rest of us pussies can continue to live in a society and give up some of our individual freedom in order to do that.

You do you, but I'm going to care about the wellbeing of my countrymen.  That's going to be true even when they are actively trying to kill themselves.  I'm not a Christian, but I was raised to believe that caring was the Christian thing to do.  I continue to wonder exactly what it is that today's Christians believe, because it doesn't appear to have anything to do with loving thy neighbor.

I know maybe two anti-vaxxers. They have always had wind-chime magical-thinking opinions about almost everything, so this is in the same groove. I don't have to hang out with them for any real reason, though I did see them at an event I scheduled where I made sure we were on a wind-swept patio overlooking a cliff, mainly for their protection and any others like them. It had been months since I'd seen them when they couldn't shut up about the vax killing people and other Flat Earther routines. This time they were subdued and polite. Maybe some shit happened.

Far more insidious to me are my "Gray Zone" friends, these are the ones who think they are taking precautions, but it's all in their heads. They post photos of themselves mashed up inside with small crowds of people, and I guess they wore a mask for 5 minutes out of an hour. These people keep inviting us to come visit, let's have dinner, let's get together and do something. Aw Hell No.

The Gray Zoners are like people who talk about their diets while gorging on just one more cupcake.

At least my mom and close family who look out for her are all armored up, and mom prefers listening to her church program on the radio vs going down there to get coughed on.

I don't trust any damn body.

I had some discussions with Trump relatives about Covid and other subjects like My Pillow cyber attacks. They have been infected with both Alpha and Delta with Delta sending one of them to the hospital. These are not the most educated people and genuinely believe what they here from Right Wing Media.

After several rounds of "that's not how any of this works" I just went with a boiled down version of socratic ignorance. Recognize that you lack knowledge so defer to the experts but then the issue of identifying who are the experts arose. I finally gave up when I realized it's impossible for these people to find correct information when they are surrounded by so much misinformation.

At one point I thought I made a breakthrough when comparing societal responsibility regarding mutations of Covid to MRSA but then they admitted to the misuse of antibiotics and didn't think that was a contributing factor to super bacteria.

A woman I know bears some resemblance to that. Her primary source of "news" is TikTok. It's been slooow progress, but she is, at least, vaccinated.

Your other comment reminded me of something I read but cannot recall the source and it was that more hospitals are really struggling with the other infections right now due to the strain of caring for so many with so few hands. Sepsis and 'superbugs' and other nasty stuff of which I don't know the correct jargon. Just when healthcare was trying to keep afloat of these issues, heeeere comes trouble. It's just sad because patients may be healing and then suffer a setback due to an entirely different pathogen.

Of course not. As long as you don’t mind not being able to access critical care or surgical treatment for you and your loved ones. One of the OR nurses at a surgery center I go to has a teenage child with asthma that started having SOB and they had to call an ambulance. Ambulance dispatch diverted them to an acute care clinic that had oxygen capability. Not a free standing ER, a doc in the box. Every ER in the area was on divert. She was there for 4 days with a bacterial double pneumonia exacerbated by her asthma. This was last week

The important takeaway here is fuck that kid. AggressivelyPussyCoach might feel bad for a few hours if he were to get vaxxed.
