The complete lack of smell and taste is messing with me.  No labored breathing.  Sometimes feels like my nostrils are burning.  Mucinex Day/Night regimen helping with headache and sleep.

Some may remember, but as a reminder I had the J&J in April.  I followed that up with Moderna and went ahead with a two shot regiment (last shot in August) of that b/c at the time the fear was that J&J wasn't effective against Delta variant and booster talk was already being mumbled about.  Disappointed I didn't become invincible and my cell reception still sucks.

I’m 3x Moderna and also had it.  I’ve been asking random females if I can tongue their nostrils.

Yes, he's vaxxed, and he'll get boosted next week.  It's the air travel that I'm not cool with.  Frankly, I'm thinking I might send him on his own, without me going, for reasons you stipulate.  (He's 17, I'm 58, big difference in risk there.  He can stay in a room by himself.)  Or, I'll make the drive, because frankly, I want to see these matches.

I was freaked out about the air travel thing, until I had to travel for work during the summer.  Then I realized that it's a pain in the ass, but you are less likely to get sick on an airplane today than you were 2 years ago, because everyone is wearing their masks, and at least on United, they are serious about it. They even give you a wipe that you can double wipe all the crap they cleaned before you got on. I've flown to Mexico, to Seattle, to Boston, to Chicago and will be flying to Europe and a couple more work trips between now and the end of the year.

I did come home sick from my first work trip, but not COVID, just picked up a cold from being out at restaurants and bars with coworkers and not getting enough sleep for a week after not exposing my immune system to anything at all for a year and a half.  He'll be fine.  You'd be fine too, pay for the upgrade to premium economy, so you'll be around the people that are more used to traveling in this, and you'll find it's a pretty pleasant experience.

Wear a N95 mask in the plane and in the airport you’ll be fine.

Many airlines will nix that N95.  And gaiters,  too.

Don't be looking for reason here.  This is a conglomeration of different organizations, employees, and people that really have no fucking idea what the rules are..

Friend had a breakthrough case.  He’s vaxxed.  He had symptoms but was fine after 2-3 days.  He’s fully convinced had he not been vaxxed he would be in a hospital bed and not doing well.  He feels great today.

I’m fine with breakthrough cases because the vax is keeping nearly all of them fine and not in the hospital, which is the purpose.  I’m a little annoyed with media telling us cases are starting to rise again, because my next question is always “but what are hospitalizations and how many of those hospitalized are anti-vax” because those people deserve what they get.

Just referring to the anecdotes being shared here. You got people doing all the right things and just not getting the right shake.

Agree with all of this. This is the right perspective of course. The breakthroughs still suck though.

No they won't aggy. No gaiters allowed, but N95 are widely used by crew.

Selection effect? Not much reason for those of us uninflected to report so.

Certainly reasonable. I just hate hearing reports form the folks getting 3 shot mixed regimens and still having breakthroughs.

I was very mildly ill for 2.5 days.  I’ll take that shake.

Right on. Someone needs to push through a nasal spray vax that creates a sterilizing immunity.

I guess I’m not fully up to speed on how it all works, but if the antigens are gone (they don’t persist, regardless of boosters, right?) it’s going to have enough time to infect before body can create more. Presumably many of the symptoms people experience are really caused by the immune system reacting/working rather than by the virus itself.

A lot of these are effectively just getting a natural booster, including the side effects that some experience with that.

Mask says “hi”

I’m still wearing one in the poker room every night, even though I’m superhuman w J&J/Moderna.

I'd probably wear one at the craps table too with 3x full dose Moderna.

Not an N95 with the outflow respirator. Just a basic N95 or KN95. I have worn mine on a half dozen flights since last year.

Gaiters are worthless.

What do you mean by this?

I imagine he is talking about the N95 masks that have the outflow respirator (little plastic disc looking thing on the mask that lets air flow freely out but not in). They protect the wearer but no one else. That’s not what I was talking about.

I'm one of the anecdotes Anastasis is mentioning.  J&J/Moderna with the last Moderna shot in August.  Jokes aside I knew I wasn't invincible, but I really did hope that by being vaxxed in combination with the fact that I exercise more caution than many folks would somehow help me slide on by.  I really feel in person school before kids 5-11 could get their shots was a mistake.   I'm also wondering if son playing basketball was a giant error on our part.  There was one game last week where daughter stayed in the car instead of going into the gym w/us to watch.  At that game, wife and I wore masks and sat in the corner away from everyone else.  Yet, three of us, all vaxxed, came down with it while daughter so far is still testing negative.  Maybe coincidence.

I know the vaccinations are good.  I know staying out of the hospital (so far) is great.  But it is still a bummer in many ways.  Wife had to notify so many groups and folks, and you can't help but feel like a bit of a leper pariah.  And I'm going on day 4 of no smell or taste.  Last night I started getting random chest and back pains.  That was fun.  I'm also probably in extra whine mode and this is maybe my only social media vent place, so forgive me for carrying on.

How did you get those chips to stick together like that?

That’s how nasty casinos are.

They did a full chip cleanse here once Covid blew up and we all still thought it could spread on surfaces, but I’m already seeing them start to stick again. If nothing else, the mask keeps me from touching my face after touching the chips, cards and felt all night long.

I always lick my chips for good luck. And I make sure the table sees to give them an incentive to not get them.

It’s all in the attitude. As a fellow breakthrough case, I felt like a Leper Messiah.

I got super sick after a stint at O’Shea’s on the strip. Shit is gross.

That sucks man, it sounds like you have been way more cautious than 90% of the population. Get well soon.

If I'm reading this correctly, Europe has already had almost twice as many deaths in 2021 as they did in 2020.  Almost double worldwide in 2021.  It appears we are doing better than most places.  Maybe its not just 'merica and muh freedoms?

It is going to be interesting to see how this looks going forward.  Will covid just be something we live with for the foreseeable future?  Will we need semi-annual boosters for the rest of our lives?  Will those who refuse just continue to die off?
