Hell no - the chant only works on the cult if the words are all the same.

Yeah, I mean I guess if one person chants, "Saw Bevo's horns off," the whole thing falls apart.

It's a real shocker that pretty much all aggy watch Fox News.

I’m working very close to the front lines and I think all options need to be considered and we need to be flexible. If in two weeks things are leveling off in areas and testing is ramping then it’d be foolish to not consider loosening things for certain parts of the economy.

If by leveling off, you mean that there is a consistent number of people dying without adequate medical treatment, I would disagree.  If you mean that we have caught up to the issue, and people are getting adequate treatment and medical workers are being protected, I would agree.  I seriously doubt that will be two weeks.  There will be a lag between the new-cases curve and the death curves.  The new-cases curve is still accelerating.

SIAP but the following has some great charts showing how this thing is spreading:

http://www.91-divoc.com/pages/covid-visualization/ *

I found the charts with all of the states super-interesting.  They really drive home the point that it's not just New York that is in trouble - they're just further along.  States that don't take action immediately will end up in largely the same positions. It looks to me like New Jersey, Michigan, Louisiana, Illinois and Florida will be the next hot spots.

* Note that the control panels below each chart allow you to highlight specific states and change between total cases / active cases / deaths.

The Holy See and San Marino have some interesting trajectories.

it's interesting that california is flattening out pretty good, since we were among the earliest to shelter-in-place (or similar measures).

not sure how any state can look at any data and keep shit open.  the entire country should've been on lockdown like that town in outbreak 10 days ago.  cedar creek?

But will those trajectories reveal themselves by Easter Sunday because you know that's what's really important here?

He’s treating the governors of this country like they’re the Ukrainian President.

All he knows is quid pro quo.

way before ukraine, people who liked trump and were 'friends' with trump said he treats every relationship as transactional, and has been doing so for decades.  none of this shocks me.

One problem I have with these charts is that they don't account for the percentage of the population who've been tested.

The US has only tested 300 people for every million citizens.

Would be nice if they would copy and paste some talking points on the failing of federal response...federal aid package is great but it shouldn't come before a serious federal response to this crisis, through actually using the wartime declaration for ppe, ventilators, etc.

Holy shit, did anyone see the video of him actually saying that?  About how important easter is to him?  He was looking directly at the camera like a god damn psychopath.

I would love to hear him try and explain the religious significance of Easter Sunday.

I'm waiting for the inevitable comparison of Jesus' sacrifice and the one we're asking of the olds.

I mean Jesus died for the sins of man, and we're asking them to die for the Dow, but it's pretty much the same thing.

I keep waiting for him to make one his lame tone deaf jokes about how maybe the dead olds will rise from the grave on Easter.

Just got a postcard sized flyer in the mail entitled "President Trump's Coronavirus Guidelines for America".  On the back is has 10-12 simple, rational safety tips.  Some of them seemingly fly in the face of what the dotard has actually been peddling on the airwaves.

Namely "Work or study FROM HOME whenever possible".  Also, in all caps, bottom left:

EVEN IF YOU ARE YOUNG, OR OTHERWISE HEALTHY, YOU ARE AT RISK AND YOUR ACTIVITIES CAN INCREASE THE RISK FOR OTHERS.  IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU DO YOUR PART TO SLOW THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.

I really wish those points would match what the president tells me on the teevee.  Such confusing times.

Disagree with the point about Biden.  He doesn't need to be out in a crowd -- he can speak from his home.  Regular addresses, talking about working with a leadership team to plan for our future -- we are going to need a REAL president when we come out of this.  Here's what I will do.  And here's what you, the people and local governments, can do to start getting us ready for that.

In the absence of real leadership, FUCKING LEAD.  Just do it.  Start acting like the president.  Fuck, somebody has to.

Nicolle Wallace interviewed Joe on her show this afternoon. It lasted a good half hour or so. He did a good job.

Lulz, did I hear them start to plant the seed for their fairy-tale argument that with the $6 trillion stimulus bill, the US economy will be stronger than it was at the beginning of the year, possibly by Q4. So in other words, the strongest economy in history (based on previous administration claims). This year?

still confused by the dpa.

we invoked the dpa, but we haven't had to use it, because every company we've asked, you know, nobody has said no.

isn't the dpa what you invoke when you want to ask companies to make supplies that we need?  so he hasn't had to actually use it because that only involves 'forcing' companies to produce supplies?

I'd like to see you support those claims rather than merely dismiss opposing views as foolish without hearing them.

Your closing is just an obvious truth not necessarily affected by what precedes it. Of course, salvaging what we can of the economy is important. So is preserving life. Tell us where you see the balance and back up the speculation about the death rate due to Corona versus that by a Great Depression. Further, show your work on how we arrive at a Great Depression.

Failing to do those things makes your post a parroting of the lackeys who work for Trump or desperately need his coattails come November.

Life expectancy linked to income.

How do we arrive at a Depression? We might already get one tbh but there will be a significant difference in how deep and long it is if we shut down for one month vs 4-6-9 months like Cuomo is stating. If you don’t see how we get a catastrophic situation by shutting things down for that long then I guess we can go step by step in another reply later. I don’t think it requires “showing work” to surmise that 10s of millions (?) suddenly unemployed and their small business employers shutting down would lead to at least a 10% drop in GDP (which I’ve seen as one loose definition of a “depression”)

So how’s the balance struck? Im not sure, but it’s worth having a discussion. Do we start to see leveling off in Washington state or New York? Does it appear that the warm weather will indeed quell it? Are treatments promising? We’re already using plaquenil and azithromycin here in San Antonio and have seen encouraging results.  These are all variables that should inform our decisions. For now the closures make sense out of an abundance of caution. Early to mid April time to reassess. It’s fluid. Like on the Recruiting Board, Roma.

Whoever stated 2% mortality is totally wrong. We’re currently at 1.3% and that likely severely overestimates it since we’re not able to test everyone currently.

Attention whore. Now people come out to say they “might have Coronavirus”?  For publicity. So freaking lame.

This all sets up perfectly for Trump to do what he does best. Sit back, blame other people, and armchair quarterback everything.

Never mind that he is the leader of the free world, his only function in life is to sit on the sideline and bitch. So that's what he will do. And he will deflect blame by claiming if they had only listened to me and reopened, we'd be fine. Hell by then he'll be arguing that he was always against a lockdown.

He doesn't actually take positions or make actionable decisions of any worth, because to do so would open him up to possible mistakes.

Now, when the shutdown lasts longer than Easter he can fire off tweets bitching at states for being anti capitalist pussies.

And if by some miracle we're safe to open by Easter, he'll claim it was all cured because of this arbitrary date that he set.

Always set yourself up to take all of the credit and none of the blame.

Where's your math on lost production due to CV death tolls?  Let's see it.  If you're so damn willing to strike a balance, you'd better have a really fucking sharp pencil.

I took a crack at it earlier today and not one of you pussies was willing to step up and offer any counterpoints.

Ayup.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/24/trump-voters-impatient-coronavirus-shutdowns-146770

Quote

President Donald Trump’s vow Tuesday that he would “love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter,” less than three weeks from now, was the clearest signal yet of the political logic he hopes to follow in a presidential campaign shadowed by global pandemic.

Quote

He is determined to make other people—specifically, governors and public health officials—own everything else, including the reality that massive shutdowns will continue long after the Christian holy day on April 12.

Quote

His pledges about a return “much sooner than expected,” as he put it Monday, to a functioning economy, in which people can return to work and schools and the familiar rituals of consumer culture, is in defiance of what health experts in his own administration say will likely be necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prevent hospitals from being overrun. It is in defiance, too, of closures of schools and businesses that governors in both parties have already ordered beyond April 12.

Quote

It reflects his reading of the power dynamics of this crisis. The one thing he has complete authority over is the words that come from his own mouth. Other people, especially governors, can assume the legal authority over closures and public sacrifice that flows from them.

This appraisal reflects a narrow view of presidential power, especially from someone who is often perceived as trying to expand the prerogatives of his office. No concern about federalism likely would stop a president who wanted the responsibility from leading a consistent nationwide response in concert with state and local officials, who would be hard-pressed to stand in defiance of a national plan.

Quote

But it has become clear that when it comes to coronavirus Trump does not want this responsibility. He says governors are free to navigate the situation in their state; he’s also free to second-guess any decision they make that he doesn’t like.
