I mean they were about to do that till Nancy came in, but apparently it wasn't political enough.

Also when are we supposed to leave out houses? Do we just stay until we have no jobs to go back to, and then the second wave of Covid 19 comes around and do it again?

Ideally, we'd probably need to do it for 5 or 6 weeks to let everything cool down and get under control. Then, we can reopen, but keep the older population isolated AND implement mass testing + contact tracing while keeping our current hygiene protocols. We need to slow the spread so it is manageable until we either create a vaccine or a reliable treatment. The second wave only comes if we get complacent and do something like open everything up next week. If that happens, it'll get crazy bad and there will not be much of an economy left for you to worry about it. We act right and shutdown short term, I would guarantee you the economy would rally hardcore. Short term there would be some damage, and some businesses would go under, but long term everything would be fine and the downturn would be but a blip.

This is not the wrong take. My biggest worry is loss of freedoms for everyone. I don't want this to be this decades 9/11 where we lost our 4th amendment freedoms.

I think the same of a gradual scale of coming back to work while those who need it to be given care through private and public means. I've become pretty libertarian as I've aged, but I don't want people to die cause they can't fend for themselves since govt closed the country more or less.

Bold talk.  Are you trying to make payroll for your small business this week?

Maybe you should start caring about other people living paycheck to paycheck before the fucking pandemic hits

see how easy that is?

The whole point of @TornACL post was the remarkable stupidity of making this black and white, something you are doing nonstop on the stupid fucking thread bob has to make for you in DT. Grow a pair quit picking places to be simple and contrarian.

So... I'm just making a wild guess that you aren't taking money out of your personal savings to make payroll for your employees this week?

Yay, more debt!

I'll play the Grinch and go on record as being totally against this ineffectual, political money grab.

It won't work, and we'll be right back here in a few months throwing more money at the problem.

Best explanation of the rationale for Trump's lack of initiation of the Defense Production Act.

As one comment notes, it would be on brand.

There is an additional reason I think, too. Maybe a minor one, but:

This is a 2020 issue. If Trump nationalizes an industry, that’s socialism. He wants to call democrats socialists for the election. He can’t do that as effectively if he goes and nationalizes all of industry.

Not going to argue though that businesses are looking to cash in where they can. And this issue is the worst of the worst.

I mean I don’t mind Costco and grocery stores suspending coupons during this. But dear god man. Trying to use the fact that states are competing against each other as a way to drive up prices is terrible. This is a national problem and we need to face this as Americans. Not red state vs blue state.

The executives of any companies that use this as an opportunity to profiteer should be put in fucking gibbets, as should any politicians that help enable it.

Well, we had senators selling mass amounts of stocks before this thing really hit.... and that’s like yesterday’s news... no one really talking about that anymore.

This virus moves fast and Trump’s incompetence is once again sucking out all the oxygen to the point that real stories like this one is going to be forgotten... hell he’ll probably just re-write history like he always does by just repeating that we never had a shortage to begin with.... or that it was Obama’s fault.

CHUCK SCHUMER IS COUNTING … Here are the items Schumer’s team says they’ve secured in the last few days: an extra month of unemployment insurance; $55 billion more for hospitals; $150 billion for states, localities and tribes; $10 billion in SBA grants of up to $10,000 for small business costs; $17 billion for SBA to cover six months of payments for businesses with current SBA loans …

Quote

$30 billion in emergency education funding; $25 billion in transit funding; $30 billion for the Disaster Relief fund; the ban of stock buybacks for companies that received government assistance; real-time reporting of Treasury loans, investments and assistance; an IG for the $500 billion to lend to corporations; a tax credit that would encourage employers to keep workers on the payroll; a tax exclusion for people who are receiving student loan repayment from their employer.

Quote

WHAT SCHUMER’S OFFICE IS REALLY EAGER TO POINT OUT:“Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has secured a provision in the agreement that will prohibit businesses controlled by the President, Vice President, Members of Congress, and heads of Executive Departments from receiving loans or investments from Treasury programs. The children, spouses and in-laws of the aforementioned principals are also included in this prohibition.”

You can thank your orange god for that. He's the one who didn't listen to experts and called the thing a hoax. He made this 1000x worse than it should have been. Pure fucking incompetence.

We should be the ones leading the charge when stuff like this happens. Instead we're gonna get ravaged by it.

Why are Democrats okay with people going without food or homes which will kill people.
This game isn't fun, but it can be played.

Y'all are seriously so devoted to Trump that you ignore simple factual and economic realities. God damn.

YAY!  Wait...who's going to stop them?

Also, there should be no businesses controlled by the dotard.  Blind trust?  Oh, no?  Welp.

I believe there is also an IG being commissioned to oversee the distribution of those funds, at least that's what early reporting of what was in the passed bill

Look man, every single fucking post of mine for the last week has been negged by ctj and his merry band of mall cops and dismissed out of hand, which was real fucking frustrating when it was about salient medical issues and increased risk due to specific action or

If they're going to say whatever I post is CR even when it wasn't, I may as well give em what they asked for. I didn't cross any of immas lines or break his rules prior around attacks on political ideology or by talking about any party's policies or anything. And yet anything contrary to the group thinking is political speech and bad, even if its fucking directly quoting the decision makers own fucking words.

Hope y'all enjoyed the show.

I know this is true and thats why I had to move the goalposts yet again - I had hundreds of reports for CR outside of CR and none of them even fit criteria to give them the litmus test. I think some people just can't divorce the 2 things at all and have a policy discussion without picturing the orange mans face or whatever the fuck. I'm honestly over it I'm super busy with my day job right now and juggling a 4 month old when WFH with your wife is really garbage.

Why would Trump sign this bill?

Good.  Let him not sign it.  And let him defend not signing it after Mitch and the Boys agreed to whatever provisions that Team D stuck in there.

And if he has specific issues with the language barring his family from making a buck off this, then let him explain that away as well.

It's a bipartisan agreement and I think will pass overwhelmingly according to reports (only a few fringe holdouts). He basically has no other choice if he has any inyention to remain president.

No worries my dude, I've got no hard feelings about it. I appreciate being upfront about giving time outs and changing the rules to get the outcome yall are looking for.

I'll play nice in the kiddie pool and avoid talking about the single most important factor regarding how we handle the pandemic

America today is probably the least racist country in history and we’re still pretty damn racist, just subconsciously and refuse to admit it. Its a natural human condition, one with difficulty to be overcome. In America today it’s mainly due to the criminal organization calling itself the Republican Party.

Yeah, we need to be acknowledging that it's part of our "id" and trying to engage our "ego" to overcome it and that's a delicate process.

People who would exploit that tendency for power or material gain are the worst.

If you are trying to may payroll and find it difficult because of the current pandemic, you should direct your ire at the person who didn't think it was necessary to plan for one.

And by plan, I mean have people, technology, and processes in place to address it.

Oh, and be pissed because that same person called it a "hoax."

It's just so funny how much worse the anti-CR circlejerk is than the actual CR.

To me, the coronavirus topic is an inherently political issue. And if you are such a sensitive baby that your eyes can't STAND to see political talk, maybe don't post in the coronavirus thread.

And maybe when someone keeps reporting posts from specific users and quoting them and writing paragraphs long responses whining about how terrible their posts are, you can just instruct that user that there is an ignore feature, and that they don't need to keep shitting up the thread quoting that person 1000 times and going an a separate rant in each one that has zero relation to the actual coronavirus topic.

Has it been established that this account is from an actual insider or just a perceptive fiction writer?

Most tend to believe it's an insider.  Case in point; a week or so back, they were tweeting about the delay in one of the virus pressers...and the minute before it started, they tweeted it was about to begin.

Call it good timing, or call it someone who knows.
