It's getting kind of dusty in here. I'm not crying. Really.

Who was it that said they didn't like her voice? Sorry, but what I wouldn't give to hear the sound of her voice as President. Right now. She would be second-guessed from here to kingdom come by all the Fox News Pundits, but Lord we would have all the equipment we needed.

So, putting 2 + 2 together  . .

1.  Massachusetts gets no help from the Feds, and the Feds have THEIR stockpile.

2.  Massachusetts gets outbid OR has their PPEs seized by the Feds for THEIR stockpile.

3.  Red Staters party on the beach at Spring Break and the plague is coming.

4. ??????

5.  Profit (win election by giving all hoarded or seized PPE and ventilators to people in red states)

Hobby Lobby is still open in my city.  Once again, the list of "essential" businesses is a fucking joke.

Yeah, I think we have more than enough evidence at this point to address that one if necessary.

Perhaps that's it. But, because they won't listen to bad news, by the time you're on a vent your odds of making it are umm not good. That's if you can get a bed in ICU and if you got there in time.

Isn't Michigan a swing state btw?

Aggies.  The entire board of texags is exactly like that.  That's is sincerely how they think, and it's scary that so many are still like that.  They have a thread on there now talking about storming the state capitol to get the governor to open the state up.

In Trump's mind:  looking like he's doing something >>>>> doing something.

I pointed out the Michigan thing back when he was complaining about Witmer.  I also guessed a while back that he knows he's a one term president so maybe he's brokering the ventilators.  Why else would Kushner be involved?

Consensus data is lacking, but it looks like access to ventilators prolongs time to death more so than promoting survival and recovery.

Lancet (3/5) : Respiratory support for patients with COVID-19 infection

Quote

As of Feb 27, 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected 47 countries and territories around the world.

Xiaobo Yang and colleagues described 52 of 710 patients with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) in Wuhan, China. 29 (56%) of 52 patients were given non-invasive ventilation at ICU admission, of whom 22 (76%) required further orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation. The ICU mortality rate among those who required non-invasive ventilation was 23 (79%) of 29 and among those who required invasive mechanical ventilation was 19 (86%) of 22.

non-peer reviewed aggregate of available info: Mortality rate of COVID-19 patients on ventilators

So any hoarding/biased allocation of ventilators is arguably fools gold.  The real service to be offered is fact based leadership and effective national communication in order to contain this virus.  Absent that, NO amount of medical or ventilator support will be sufficient be meet the overwhelming demand.

Open the state up? WTF...I know I've said this before, but up here everyone is open and everyone is working.  Just crazy hearing about you guys who are actually at home and have your offices closed.  Wish we'd do that too...but it might cost us money I guess.

Fauci will be recommending shut downs until the virus is completely or nearly eradicated. Dems and the media will be howling his tune every step of the way

If and when that time comes and Trump decides enough is enough and it's time to loosen restrictions, and Fauci is still insisting on keeping everything shut down, how does Trump move forward?

How does he get out of the corner he's allowed himself to get boxed into?

So trying to lead in a time of crisis with a lot of people in you ear is getting yourself "boxed in"?

What was he supposed to do?

If he had not shut anything down, people would be saying he'd boxed himself in with that position...and allowing a pandemic to run wild.

The dems and media were going to demonize him and use this crisis against him no matter what course of action he took. It's disgusting.

Trump- This global pandemic makes me a wartime president.

Also Trump- Hey, we're just here as a back-up. We might even be the 3rd string qb. States need to get their own medical supplies.

Also Trump- We're outbidding you for medical supplies with tax dollars we got from the states.

I was texting with a nurse friend the other day.  She said that at her hospital, the ventilator is a death sentence.  No one comes off the vent alive.

So either ventilators are insufficient to save critical COVID patients or my friend works at the world’s shittiest hospital.

There's a post on that gofundme link that says that dead Karen's husband and two sons are trying now to get tested, but there are no test available for them.
They live in a Republican run county in a Republican run state in a Republican run country, and I guarantee you without a doubt, that they and everyone who gave that post on facebook a thumbs up, will blame their failure to test on Democrats.

To Trump, words speak louder than action.  If you say you’ve done something, there’s no need to actually do it. The goal is for people to think you did it, which you can accomplish much more easily and effortlessly by just lying to them.

Nailed it.

They'll blame every covid death on him if he lifts the restrictions. It's not just him though, it's every conservative governor.

Fauci is a liberal. He wants Trump out in November. Never forget that. Anyone who can support Hillary is not trustworthy. I didn't care what credentials they have.

Well yeah it's disgusting, and you just described how Trump got boxed in

The question now is how does he get out of it when the time comes for him and Fauci to disagree?

When Trump says "the country is falling apart, it's time to get moving", and Fauci publically says "no, we have to remain shut down and shut in because the virus is still out there"

How does he get out of that and move the country forward?
Trump hasn't gotten himself "boxed in". That's a false narrative.

No matter what decision he made, people like you would be decrying his choice and claiming the opposition has him where they want him. Whether he kept the country open, or pushed distancing.

Trump will make his choice and stand by it...like he always has. He isn't going to let a single individual control his decision.

Funny you mention moving the country forward. He's been doing that for 3 years. But his opponents have done all they can to keep things from moving forward. From the Kavanaugh circus...which failed...to Russia and Mueller...which failed...to impeachment...which failed...and now they're ready to have hearings on COVID19 before even getting past the pandemic. By the way, in all that mess, Trump's poll numbers have stayed level with Obama's...and were even surpassing him.

Trump isn't the problem. The toxic behavior of his opponents to blame him at all costs is the problem.

The real way to move the country forward is getting Trump a second term, keeping the Senate...and taking the House away from the dems. They have done nothing but obstruct.

Even the president’s base has begun to confront this reality. In mid-March, as Trump was rebranding himself a wartime president and belatedly urging the public to help slow the spread of the virus, Republican leaders were poring over grim polling data that suggested Trump was lulling his followers into a false sense of security in the face of a lethal threat.

The poll showed that far more Republicans than Democrats were being influenced by Trump’s dismissive depictions of the virus and the comparably scornful coverage on Fox News and other conservative networks. As a result, Republicans were in distressingly large numbers refusing to change travel plans, follow “social distancing” guidelines, stock up on supplies or otherwise take the coronavirus threat seriously.

Quote

“Denial is not likely to be a successful strategy for survival,” GOP pollster Neil Newhouse concluded in a document that was shared with GOP leaders on Capitol Hill and discussed widely at the White House. Trump’s most ardent supporters, it said, were “putting themselves and their loved ones in danger.”

Trump’s message was changing as the report swept through the GOP’s senior ranks. In recent days, Trump has bristled at reminders that he had once claimed the caseload would soon be “down to zero.”

Quote

In late January and early February, leaders at HHS sent two letters to the White House Office of Management and Budget asking to use its transfer authority to shift $136 million of department funds into pools that could be tapped for combating the coronavirus. Azar and his aides also began raising the need for a multibillion-dollar supplemental budget request to send to Congress.

Yet White House budget hawks argued that appropriating too much money at once when there were only a few U.S. cases would be viewed as alarmist.

Quote

Azar then spoke to Russell Vought, the acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, during Trump’s State of the Union speech on Feb. 4. Vought seemed amenable, and told Azar to submit a proposal.

Azar did so the next day, drafting a supplemental request for more than $4 billion, a sum that OMB officials and others at the White House greeted as an outrage. Azar arrived at the White House that day for a tense meeting in the Situation Room that erupted in a shouting match, according to three people familiar with the incident.

Quote

A deputy in the budget office accused Azar of preemptively lobbying Congress for a gigantic sum that White House officials had no interest in granting. Azar bristled at the criticism and defended the need for an emergency infusion. But his standing with White House officials, already shaky before the coronavirus crisis began, was damaged further.

White House officials relented to a degree weeks later as the feared coronavirus surge in the United States began to materialize. The OMB team whittled Azar’s demands down to $2.5 billion, money that would be available only in the current fiscal year. Congress ignored that figure, approving an $8 billion supplemental bill that Trump signed into law March 7.

We'd be faring better with anyone other than Trump.  Who else would have fired our entire national (global) Pandemic Response Team?  Who else would de-fund our program for routine maintenance of ventilators in the strategic stockpile ?  Who else would marginalize or remove the voices from the podium of the most competent physicians and scientists promoting public understanding in an attempt to reduce his own stage envy?  You couldn't invent a worse person for the position right now.

And yes, even a single day delayed in taking definitive steps on social distancing has massive effects visible only weeks later.  If we did at a national level what WA and CA did when they did it, we'd be in a massively improved situation as a nation.  And really, we're still not there
