It would not have been tough to add a condition that medical guests with radical/extreme minority opinions must include equal time on the majority opinion. And that non-qualified guests are not allowed to air medical opinions.

This reminds me of a series he did on nutrition and diets I remember listening to a few years back and he had on two "experts" with opposing viewpoints.  Experts in quotes because for the life of me I can't remember who he had on.

Anyway, if I recall correctly one was a keto/carnivore diet advocate and the other was a plant based diet advocate.  The plant based guy cited scientific study after study throughout the entire three hour podcast showing where people who eat more plant based foods and less meat live longer, have higher bio markers of health, etc., etc., etc. and Rogan, who was supposed to be the middle guy or moderator of sorts in the debate, just constantly dismissed and dunked on him the entire time, saying the studies were flawed and so on.

Even as someone attracted to the keto diet and a fan of Rogan at the time it rubbed me the wrong way at how dismissive of peer reviewed studies and evidence Rogan was.  He is really just a conspiracy minded person who is always attracted to the outlier, non mainstream way of doing things.  I think it explains why he went from rooting for Bernie to rooting for Trump.  Both were the weird outlier non mainstream candidates compared to boring political old timer Joe Biden.

He can't give equal time to qualified majority opinions because he simply doesn't believe in experts unless they're spouting a minority opinion that goes against mainstream thought.  Everything is some sort of conspiracy.

I think his move to Austin was harmful to the diversity of the show. The people that are reaching out and willing to travel just to make an appearance have more particular needs versus guests that live or frequent Las Angeles.

He’s more than welcome to fucking move back to LA.

Josh Dubin of The Innocence Project was on again & emotionally said Joe'splatform helped get two innocent black men free from prison. I think we can all agree that is a good thing.

Only two?

And is it important to specify the color of their skin? Freeing anyone who was wrongly imprisoned is a good thing regardless of their skin color. It would be interesting to see the statistics regarding the wrongly convicted people freed by the Innocence Project. Without knowing, I’d bet that non-white people are disproportionately represented. And not because the Innocence Project disproportionately favors their cases but because non-white people are statistically more likely to be convicted and imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit.

Has Joe ever addressed that subject? If he did then those on the modern right would try to cancel him for talking about Critical Race Theory. Because that would be addressing systemic racism and we can’t have that.

But yes, the Innocence Project does great work and any exposure they can get is a good thing.

Things not going well for Joe Rogan, he's recording new episodes and giving away his stuff...

I know of Lex Fridman from The JRE podcast. At first I thought he was just a put me to sleep hanger on, but his podcast has been blowing my mind for the past couple of months. He's an Artificial Intelligence Engineer and philosopher and new resident to Austin. @Captainant

I mean I didn't finish this one but I listened to the others with Dublin & Flum, yeah they cover it for hours. The Innocence Project's about us on their site says"..our work is guided by science and grounded in antiracism.".

Lex Fridman inhales farts directly out of Joe Rogan's anus because it leads to a bigger audience.  He serenaded him with a song on his show.  No, I'm not kidding.  He wrote a song about Joe and his "powerful shoulders" and sang it to him.  Some of you eagerly belly up to the cringe buffet and devour everything they serve you.

Yeah, but his podcast is mind blowing if you are into engineering and the philosophy of consciousness. But to each his own.

Yeah, but he can do the splits.  And I can prove that with the photos he takes of himself doing the splits.  Easily one of the most limber comics working today.

Yes, that’s great. More of that, less of (read: none) medical disinformation. It’s not like we’re asking for something that’s really hard to do.

This.  No human is all good, or all shitty.  I'm sure JR has done some good stuff -- shit, I love watching the vids of him cooking elk steaks and whatnot.  I'm sure he's done many other good things.

But the shitty things he does are real, are high-profile and influential, and some of them (vax misinformation) cause real harm.  I hold him accountable for those things.  And if he won't stop doing them, then he should suffer consequences.  That's how a functioning society works.

And herein lies the problem.

Bingo.

Not only are the virtues of “don’t be a dick, maybe be slightly considerate of other people, and if you find out that something you’re doing hurts others, change course” are not only no longer valued….they are DESPISED. They are everything WRONG with America. What we need is real alphas, people who insult and attack all who disagree with them, people who say duck your feelings, people who ACTUALLY complain about the fact that they can’t make fun of minorities/weaker people (see Shelly Luther on trans people).

Being a complete fucking selfish and cruel asshole is a quality, not a flaw.

We don’t recover from that.

Fify

Not inaccurate, but still wrong and bad.
If we only have an incentive to not be shitty if $$ is at stake, we’re still fucked.
We should be motivated to not be shitty because we should feel some sense of social responsibility and obligation to the community as a whole. We have the opposite of that. Not only do we have toxic individualism, we actively denigrate and attack any ethos that has a mere whiff of communal responsibility (“COMMUNISM! SOCIALISM! MUH RIGHTS AND FREEDOM!”)
That’s how and why we’re fucked.

Can we change this fucking stupid thread title? The guy was recently offered $100M to switch to a new platform. I'd say things are going ok for Joe Rogan

The offer was only publicity stunt for a website no one knew about. Smart of them. Make an offer you probably can’t honor but get free advertisement.

It is just so nuts to see people get all bent out of shape over Joe fucking Rogan.  HE'S A PODCAST HOST.  He's not your identity.  Sorry you found out he's not some intellectual giant that figured out the world for you.

This has nothing to do with free speech, so…”nice try dumbass.”

You bro’s really need to stop using that phrase because for well over a generation, you’ve proven to everyone with a brain stem that you haven’t the foggiest clue what it even is.

It has everything to do with free speech. If JR was echoing your views, then you would have no problem with him. And like I said, I've never listened to JRE other than random clips, and mostly ones posted here. I prefer reading books. I'm sure all you little Adolphs will be after those next.

Buddy. That is not a difference between the US and Nazi Germany. Americans are extremely fond of burning books, records, copy’s of bills or laws they don’t like and their own flag.

The difference is the US you get a ticket or maybe even arrested with a fine and community service. In Nazi Germany they came to your house in the middle of the night and shot you and your family in the back of the head.

it’s a Forrest and tress question

Except it doesn’t. It’s funny because you’re sitting there making a positive statement without evidence, which means it can be dismissed without evidence. I have no burden to bear, yet I can argue this issue without that burden far better than you can with it. Here’s what the first amendment says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Translation: free speech has to do with being criminally prosecuted for views the government doesn’t like. Anything other than that by definition has nothing to do with free speech.

Is anyone calling for Rogan to be prosecuted in any municipal, state or federal venue merely on grounds for what he says? No

Is anyone asking for him to be arrested merely on grounds for what he says? No

Is anyone asking for him to be fined by any government entity merely on grounds for what he says? No

If anyone is suggesting Spotify cancel his show and boot him from their platform, that’s not an infringement of his right to free speech.

Wanna know how I know that? Let’s suppose that happens. Does anyone seriously think that Rogan is gonna pursue litigation against them on those grounds? Fuck off with that pissy little chickenshit noise.

There are very few people asking for Spotify to cancel his show in the first place, and those who are merely are doing so because they want to see the backlash that would inevitably come with it. I’ve yet to see a single person say he should be cancelled merely because they don’t like what he says…and even if they did, that still wouldn’t be a call to repress his right to speak. So again, fuck off with that noise.

The bulk of his detractors are suggesting Spotify should put a warning out that Covid-19 is discussed on this show, the host is not a medical expert, and nothing he or any of his guests say should be interpreted as medical advice. That’s certainly not a violation of free speech either. Nor would it be if they were asking Spotify to straight up edit his content.

You’re gonna lose this argument no matter how you go about it. You’re basically playing 8-ball and you’ve either sank the 8-ball prematurely, you sank the 8-ball into a pocket that wasn’t the one you called, or you sank the 8-ball and the cue ball went in with it. Any which way, you lose. You are never going to be right in referring to this bullshit “controversy” as a free speech issue as long as no one is calling for action against Joe Rogan by any level of government.

And yes, what you really are calling for is that Rogan be afforded the right to say what he says unchallenged in any arena of debate. A few things about that:

That’s not a right that exists in the constitution

Therefore, no American ever has had that right

Real adults don’t advocate that

Only dishonest people advocate that

So enough with this soft pussy fucking bullshit and address the issue. If you’re not going to do that, why are you here?

Actually, your party is banning books in schools nationwide.

And no, this has nothing to do with free speech.  You clearly (like most conservatives on the internet it seems) don't understand that the first amendment only pertains to the government providing consequences for the things you say.  Last time I checked, Spotify (like Twitter or Facebook) is not a branch of American government.

This is capitalism.  The government isn't persecuting Rogan.  A bunch of people have decided he's a dangerous moron, and have put pressure on his employer to address it.  Now the ball is in his employer's court to make the decision that they think will financially benefit them the most.  That is all this is.
