Poll for Switchers (people who were with Pete or Liz)

90 members have voted

  1. 1. If you were with Pete or Liz and got to choose between the two frontrunners, which would you choose? (if you early voted, pretend you got a fresh ballot)

    • Biden (was Pete)
    • Biden (was Liz)
    • Bernie (was Pete)
    • Bernie (was Liz)
    • Not Voting
    • Trump
    • Persisting! With Liz!

I picked Biden (from Pete) but would happily vote for either in the general. I like Bernie better but I don't trust young people to show up in serious numbers. I prefer Liz over both but that isn't happening.

Also, what I hate about having Biden vs Bernie is they are the two polar ends of the party and whichever one gets the nomination, if they lose, we will forever wonder if the other direction was the right way to go.  And we'll never find out because we will be standing on the smoldering ruins of the Republic.

Picked Liz, don't really care who is the nom, voting for whoever ends up on the ballot.  If I had to say whether I'd like Bernie or Biden, I'd choose Biden because a return to normalcy is big.

I have a feeling this will be the majority response people have when forced to choose between the two ancient men.

I get text spammed from Team Liz constantly.  Today, I responded vote Bernie! Within an hour, I got a text from team Bernie asking me I’m voting for Bernie and where.

I had one today - I politely responded I was voting for Sanders, but keep up the good fight. Her response - "Glad you are on Team Warren."

The question makes it seem like Warren has dropped out, which is a little misleading. I get what you're saying though.

Was/am a Liz Lad. I voted for her and I don't really regret it even if my enthusiasm has waned over the past week or so (more to do with actions from her campaign than SC or NV results - that's another discussion though). I would go Sanders and it doesn't take much thought. Those two are the only two serious about the kind of structural change I think this country needs. They're also the only two I trust to be bold enough on climate. The time for moderate steps on that was when I was a child. If you've gotten to this point feeling like Warren was the best choice, it's weird to jump to Biden instead of Sanders. She's much close to Sanders on policy and Sanders has closed the polling gap vs Trump.

I'd also say that because we're talking about two guys that are nearly 80, a strong VP pick for Biden and a bad one for Sanders could close some of that gap for me. Of course, that's not something we get during primaries (lol fuck Ted Cruz) so that's kind of a moot point. Still, with two guys pushing 80, one who's had a heart attack within the past six months and another who has experienced noticeable cognitive decline, you have to consider the chance of them not being willing/able to handle a full term or run for a second more so than usual.

And because typing that reminded me:

exactly. that's why i'm going to pray for a clear cut winner. let the voters decide and let the chips fall where they may.

Too bad this didn't happen in the last Democratic primary and we didn't get to answer that question against the current incumbent POTUS.

I acknowledge that there's a difference (for now) between the public perception of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, but we've already seen how running a milquetoast moderate with no real stances and a message of "Donald Trump is bad!" played out. We saw how it played out the opposite way for Republicans vs Obama. We saw it for Democrats with Kerry vs Bush. It's possible that's enough this time with people actually seeing four years of Donald Trump and Biden being from PA. But we've seen the movie an its several sequals.

For those preparing to choose on Tuesday, make sure you watch both of these men and think about which one has the sharpness and energy to beat Trump and then lead years of fight against an intransigent GOP.

These are just the most recent longform speeches I could find on YT.

If you've lost your heart choice, make sure your brain choice is well-informed.

I already voted for Liz but for the purposes of this poll voted “was Liz, now Bernie”. I don’t particularly love Bernie but dislike biden and have concerns about his mental faculties. I honestly don’t think he could make it through a term at the rate he is deteriorating.

When I voted for Liz this past Thursday I was seriously considering switching to Bernie, who has been my #2 for awhile now. If I had waited until after the SC results, odds are I would have done so to help Bernie win Texas. In the end I didn't want to deal with the election day hassles and wanted to vote my conscience, so I voted early for Liz.

It's tough. Biden is a senile idiot, but Bernie's supporters are insufferable douchebags. If someone attracts the love of douchebags it's highly likely they are also an insufferable douchebag.

So I suppose we get lucky and whoever wins has a competent VP who quickly takes over because the old coots have health problems.

Assuming they can actually beat Trump which isn't set in stone.

I realize that being extremely online can give one the impression that Bernie's massive support is a monolith of sarcastic white dudes with neckbeards, but it's far and away the most diverse coalition of any candidate. He is easily the most popular candidate with Latinos, trails Biden by only 2% among Black voters, and is equally popular with men and women. Calling all Sanders supporters douchebags is incredibly disingenuous, and, frankly, insulting.

I never really had a strong favorite.  I guess after the first debate, I think I liked Harris the most, with Warren second.  I like much of what Buttigieg had to say, but recognized his delivery was going to turn a lot of people off.

At this point, I think I'd prefer Bernie to Biden, mostly because:

-I worry about Biden's mental acuity, or at least the perception of it.  (I think any decline is affecting his communication skills more, rather than actual processing.) And if that gets worst in the next 8 months, it could be disastrous.

-I think the difference in enthusiasm between the two bases is palatable.  Yes, there are a lot of people who will say "Biden" if you ask them on the phone, but does that translate to donations, volunteering, or even showing up to the polls in bad weather or long lines?

-I am concerned about whether the "socialism" thing will have a backlash on Bernie at the polls.  It really shouldn't, but Trump has proven just how stupid our electorate is.

For me, it's all about who will beat Trump. We aren't electing a king.  Policy differences among the candidates are going to get so muted by the legislative process, that's really secondary for me.

For those of you worried about the toxicity of fanbases, you might want to pay attention to the massive right-wing, neo-con cheering section that has grown around Biden for the last month and is reaching a fever pitch today.

I know that @FartEater666 and his buddy @PissCaptain on twitter are very annoying, but Bill Kristol and Jennifer Rubin and David Frum and Ana Navarro and David French and any number of other right-wing Biden boosters were all bloodthirsty cheerleaders for the endless wars abroad. And they don't just have 6k followers on twitter, they have hundreds of thousands on twitter and massive media outlets signal-boosting them.

I'm not saying you should pick a candidate based on how you feel about their followers and boosters, but if you actually do it might be useful to be honest about what really annoys you*.

pssssssst, it's your class interests

This is something that needs to be more understood by the masses.  Everyone afraid of SOCIALISM needs to understand that Bernie can't just wave a magic wand and make this stuff happen.  And more to the point, policy is secondary to rebuilding the government that the dotard has dismantled.  That will be the main job of the next president, not passing progressive policies.

Rumor going around that Biden might select Kamala Harris as running mate, so you might have a shot with your number 1.

key in 2008 was getting out the black vote, so that is good.  but then again, he already has the black vote.  so maybe he's wasting an opportunity to reach out to some other group.

Didn't get to early vote but I'm going to persist tomorrow.  She's the most competent choice on the ballot IMO.  Whoever ends up at the top of the ticket will get my vote in the general, and I fully expect it to be a brokered convention.

Bernie expected to dominate California Primary.  Income inequality, struggling California economy, higher amount of illegal immigrants, and Bernie's offer of a bunch more free everything should result in a huge Sanders win on Super Tuesday in Cali...

Yeah, so basically no one has any idea.

Even if Sanders took a bigger slice of Pete's pie than anyone else, Pete dropping out hurts him.  By raising all candidates some, it means that Bernie isn't the lone "viable" qualifier in some places.

It's not enough to hurt his front runner status, but could keep him from getting the majority on the first ticket.

Pete is gonna endorse Biden shortly, Klobuchar  already endorsed Biden.  I am rooting hard for Biden, but the early voting and dilution of moderates among Klobuchar and Pete, has hurt Biden the most.  Bernie may be a democratic socialist today, but he will be a Russia Honeymooning COMMUNIST  by late Summer.

The one good thing out of this cycle is we won't be letting the lilywhite people of Iowa have such overweighted influence on who the Dems choose as President.  GOP should keep Iowa as their first primary because of the matching demographics.
