This shit is funny.  If she is annoying you she is doing her job as an actress. Who cares if she doesn’t look like the person in the game.  It’s like getting mad they cast different races in LOTR.  The character is a 19 year old orphaned adrenaline junky immune to the infected that doesn’t want to be told what to do.  She’s supposed to be a bit of a cunt.  Bella is doing a fine job.

Better not watch that Fantastic Four trailer and see who is playing the Silver Surfer!!

I had to go look and make sure it wasn't Bella Ramsey, since Pedro Pascal dies a horrific death whenever they're cast in the same franchise lol

(Keep her out of the Mandoverse, please)

So the smarter move would have been to make a completely different show than the one they made that adhered to the game characters and timeline? The Godfather would have been so much better if Coppola changed the book and made Sonny the Godfather and Michael opened an antiques store in Connecticut with Kate. Fredo probably becomes a stone cold killer in your idiotic version.
Brilliant suggestion as always, King Potato Head.

The source material for The Godfather was weak, though the book was popular. Think there was a whole chapter on Sonny’s mistress who needed a big dick for her huge pussy. Thank God that Coppola had the genius to change it.

Im skeptical Bella Ramsey can carry this show, especially when shes written as an entitled asshole. Further, the baddie plays like an NPC. I had less video game vibes in the first season. We’ll see.

I think you’ll come to find that they can both offer so much more, particularly Kaitlyn Dever’s character.

Right now they act and are written like plot devices. An inevitable character who does stupid shit to advance an inevitable thing. First season looked like grown ass actors and writers doing grown ass acting and writing. Getting late stage GOT and TWD vibes.

Its like Sand Snakes vs Sand Snakes. So help me with Abby joins forces with Ellie like Neegan and Maggie…

I mean, it’s Episode 2… I would give it some time to breathe, but feel free to walk.

They moved some things around from the game story, mostly I think because they didn’t want Dever to experience the same level of fan hate the character garnered in TLOU2. Those moves are a likely contributor here, but I don’t expect much to feel “inevitable” after this episode.

It’s sad when Reddit has a better grasp on reality than surly. Had no idea Ramsey got the role for being non-binary

If I was decent at photoshop I would insert Bella Yoda gif here.

My issue w/ Bella Ramsey isn't at all attractiveness b/c c'mon, it's a post apocalyptic story.  The issue is that from S1 to S2 yeah she aged but her face put on a TON of weight.  I can suspend disbelief for a ton of shit like fungi zombies, but you can't tell me that in this world there are enough calories to go around for everyone.  People would be starving, especially in fucking Jackson Hole where you can't grow shit for half the year or more.  Most of the other characters are pretty svelte.  How the hell is she packing on the fat?  Why is she the only one?

Hurley is fat. Bella Ramsey aint fat. When people make superficial criticisms of actors based on how they dont conform to a detail from the source material, it’s an invalid criticism for a variety of reasons.

Take it to the gamers board or cloak room, these make believe notions of what this character is or isnt based on what the tv show isnt showing.

Based on what we’re seeing, Im seeing some lightweight acting and writing. Catherine OHara is a heavy hitter. As is Dora the Explorer as Dena who jumps off the screen.

Bella did OK season 1 as a kid. Now shes the lead, it’s looking grim based on the combo of a script that depicts her as unsympathetic and her acting which is not leading character material.

We'll see, I'll stick it out a few more episodes.

The producers had an opportunity to level-up the actor for Ellie in S2 for the 5 year gap. For whatever reason they didn't.  Bella Ramsey as a precocious kid in a supporting actor role, I buy.  As a revenge seeking murderer in the leading role, I have big doubts.

I'm not giving up yet, but I'm getting serious "Silo" Season 2 vibes here, in that we're introduced to and force fed a bunch of new characters that are just flat out non-compelling- either because they're poorly written, or played by shitty, miscast actors.

Obviously, in both Silo and (and especially) Last of Us, the source material is pretty rigid.  However, there are creative and casting decisions that I think are going to hurt them this season.

And all that's to say nothing about Bella, who I actually still like in her role, though it remains to be seen (for me at least), whether she can evolve the character in season 2.

People had the same thought around the last episode of Game of Thrones first season.

Was thinking about this angle. Difference I see is that the killing of Joel would have been the equivalent of killing Ned AND the whole Stark family, Tyrion, and Daenerys in that same episode. Imagine if all that was left of the show was Theon and Joffrey. No one would care anymore. There was already a lot more to GOT than just Ned Stark by that point. LOU was the Ellie and Joel game. LOU II was the Ellie and Abby game. It was a divisive move that led many, myself included, to hate play LOU II because I despised the character I was now forced to follow while eliminating 50% of the attraction to the game. I skipped the cutscenes with the new uninteresting characters and haven't bothered to play again since. I was reminded of why I disliked LOU II with this episode and I'm on the fence about watching the same on TV.

I am also missing the non-game elements from S1 such as the Indonesia scenes and the Bill/Frank story that added so much to the overall vibe of the show and which so far seem to be completely missing from this season outside the stupid roots can talk nonsense.  Two episodes in and there's no soul anymore, just shock value. If S2 just follows LOU II with nothing added but a dumb plot device to manipulate the hordes for manufactured suspense, it will not be a well-liked season. LOU was a groundbreaking and mind-blowing gaming experience and S1 caught that fire. There was always going to be a letdown in the show just like in the game.

I'm not ready to write off the show and Bella after 2 episodes. You also have Jeffrey Wright coming in soon. I haven't played the game and I'm thankful for that because you game fhegs are almost as bad as GOT bookfhegs, of which I was one. The first season bought a lot of credibility with me so we'll see how this goes. Maybe it'll suck but I'm fine with letting it play out. I have more faith in HBO than a lot of you, I suppose.

That was definitely me after Red Wedding. I couldn't give the slightest of shits about anyone still alive's storyline at the time.

Yeah I don't think she's hideous or anything, and I'm 48 so the last video game I played was Madden in college, but the actress to character fit just isn't there. Not a huge deal and it happens all time time. But having a Dever-centric episode like that didn't do her any favors.

@Helobious reality check: Kaitlyn Dever is 28 years old. She was 24 years old in 2021 when they cast this show. Casting a 24 year old to play a 14-year-old would have been weird. Why would they have even considered her? Bella Ramsey was 17 in 2021. She was a better fit.

And get outta here with that reddit/DEI retardery. It's an egregiously stupid take. The main reason Bella Ramsey got the job is because she can act. That's kind of important. Especially with kids.

Hence my reasoning that they should have aged up Ellie for the story in season 1 to 18-19. Even if they left Ramsey in for s1, they had a perfect opportunity to switch to Dever in s2 and they missed. And fwiw Reddit is split on if Ramsey got the role for being non-binary or if she got it for being a nepo-baby. I don’t think she’s a bad actress, she’s just terribly miscast here.

lmao this is fucking idiotic. Change the 14-year-old child to a 19-year-old?   Maybe they should have just made Joel the child and Ellie the adult! Then they could have cast Carrie Coon!

Ramsey was diagnosed as autistic when they were 18, while filming the first season of The Last of Us,[39] and has said that being neurodivergent has "massively" influenced their career and performances.[40][41] Ramsey stated they wore a breast binder 90% of the time they filmed The Last of Us, saying it helped them "concentrate" although it "probably isn't healthy

Is an autism diagnosis common as late as 18?  This is a sincere question and not a sarcastic quip.

people: Bella Ramsey was absolutely amazing in GoT. she dominated every scene she was in as Lyanna Mormont.  she was so fierce and assertive.

also people: she's ugly and i'm not sure she's a good enough actress for Last of Us.

jesus christ.  it sucks Pedro Pascal is gone, but the show goes on.  if the storyline is good enough, this cast will make it work. there is a reason they were hired. they're actually talented.

Logan Roy died in episode 3 of the last season of Succession and i didn't turn it off.  i didn't stop watching The Wire after Stringer got got.  big characters died left and right in GoT and i stuck with it.  GoT went off the rails because GRRM's source material ended, and the writing turned to shit. but so long as Last of Us's source material is still good, the show should still be good.  i'm certainly not giving up on it. the writers and showrunner have earned some cred.

GoT still had a million heavy hitters in their cast/story. the lannister family alone has at least four members who are 1000x more interesting and captivating than anyone left on this show.
