GoT still had a million heavy hitters in their cast/story. the lannister family alone has at least four members who are 1000x more interesting and captivating than anyone left on this show.

That’s certainly NOT how most folks felt at the time…

The “you killed off the only famous/good member of the cast” outrage was prevalent.

Yeah, after Ned's death I was like "why the fuck would I watch the rest of this?"

true, but i was still 1000x more interested in a whole host of GoT characters heading into s2 than i am in anyone who’s still left on this show.

Finally watched episode 2.

Fuck Abby. I hated the character immediately. It’s also absurd that a bunch of extra military men would follow around a 4’11” girl who makes dumb-ass emotional decisions and doesn’t have a plan for anything. Ugh. She’s the worst. I hope she does a terrible death.

She’s also much prettier than the game character and I find that offensive

Whoa... I see the parallel you're drawing but the Wire had one of the broadest, most interesting cast of character and actor arches of any show, ever.

"It's in the game!"

"You come at the king you best not miss."

"Sheeeeiiiit!"

"You play in the dirt. You get dirty."

"A man must have a code."

"How's my hair look."

The actor is much more petite and less muscular than the game character which is contrary to the character's intense fight training as well which I find annoying.

If this series continues along the same arch as the game, viewers are going to really understand why The Last of Us 2 is among the most hated follow up games in history.

Is an autism diagnosis common as late as 18?  This is a sincere question and not a sarcastic quip.

Yes. There are plenty of people that get diagnosed as adults into their 30s/40s/50s

Yeah, they couldn't raid a Columbia or REI in the zombie apocalypse?

I would wager Columbia or REI would Be the first to be raided anywhere in the western states. In the south, it would be Walmart

Tractor Supply Co and Lowes/Home Depot for anyone in the south outside a major city.

Walmart/Costco would be the main stays for all the major cities across the US for toilet paper and sodas.

I'm one of many who felt that TLOU2 was superior to the first - largely because of the plot and the decisions made regarding characters. There's a reason its one of the most acclaimed games of all time. And lets be honest - much of the hate (not suggesting you fit this bill) comes from GamerGate types who were pissed about LGBTQ stuff and strong female protagonists.

Wow, crazy episode, very GoT-ish in style. I didn't realize how many people they had in Jackson Hole. The place is massive, and there are way more people than what they show in the meetings that Tommy runs.

Spoiler

I thought Joel should have put up more of a verbal fight disparaging the doctor and his true intentions. It's not like anyone could counter his claims with truth. Tell Abby he had to kill him so he would stop the fake science he was performing on children in the name of "saving humanity." Tell her he was murdering innocent people for his experiments, etc. He saved countless lives by ending his house of horrors, and had to shoot his way out of the building to escape. Fuck with her head, play mind games, try to get away... The guy has survived the apocalypse up to this point and now he gets killed by a teenager he just saved?  Lame.

He kinda gave up, and maybe that's due to his mental state of seeing his town burning to the ground (as far as he knows), escaping a giant horde and dealing with personal issues. I just never thought he would go out like that, I thought he would at least try something.

Well, it probably belongs in game nerd thread but completely disagree.

Spoiler

First anyone paying attention at all in game 1 was already aware she was gay.

Second, the leak of Joel dying caused a massive backlash before the game ever hit market. It missed its release numbers by 40%. The 5 "refreshes" since the original by Naughty Dog is a clear attempt to try and make up the miss on release. It was a huge gap.

Link reflecting much lower sales than hoped

Third, for those who played it, like me, not only did Joel die but I then was forced to play his killer.

That is MY big negative. Did a lot of people bitch and cry about the LBGT aspect, sure, of course. However, like all the Disney IP if someone doesn't like an MCU or Disney remake its because they're sexist or racist, not because the plot, cast and direction were bad.

Did the game have great mechanics, visuals and story, outside the item above, absolutely yes.

Was it as compelling a story as the original, not for me and not for a lot of people.

I think personally Cyberpunk 2077 blows the doors off anything else ever created for narrative, but thats a game nerds discussion for sure.

Yeah, she's a fine actress and I couldn't give a shit about if she is attractive or not. Her character is a huge entitled asshole

Curious if you guys thought the same way about Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wares prequels? Because my friend was completely turned off at Anakin being this huge annoying entitled prick constantly complaining about everything including sand.

I'm lukewarm on TLOU2. It's more for a game thread, but I respected what they were trying to do more than I genuinely liked the execution of it. I think the thing I'm most interested in the show for is to see how Mazin adapts the story and what he changes.

Agreed, and I’d argue that everything Druckman had to offer has already been put forth…

In Mazin, however, I believe…

Just watched the first 2 episodes and I was not prepared to watch Joel die tonight. I did not even consider that a possibility as Abby was beating him. What a gut punch.

Agree that it was disappointing for Joel to die at the hands of Abby after all that he had been through, without even a fight. She and her crew feel like they stumbled out of the wrong script and production set.

My wife and I commented multiple times during the episode that it felt GoT-esque. Interesting that it resulted in the death of one of the 2 main characters. Feels a lot like Ned Stark.

One of my favorite parts of season 1 was the relationship that developed between Joel and Ellie. That’s gone now and I’m disappointed by that, but I agree with mdmost that the show has earned credibility and I still want to see what direction they take it.

Much like episode 3 of season 1, this upcoming week seems like a good opportunity for a flashback episode that centers on another character (Dina, please) to help build the audience attention and fill the void. Because otherwise, Tommy is the next biggest character and he’s the Diet Coke version of Joel, which is boring.

Also, rage and helo are predictably pathetic in this thread. Rage with his incel whining about a teenage girl based on a video game not being hot enough for him. Helo managing to always be wrong about everything which is a rare talent.

I also played the game and I think Bella Ramsey is doing a fine job as Ellie. There are Tomb Raider games and movies if you are having trouble getting yourself off.
