He was pretty outnumbered and unarmed, similar to when the guys on horseback surrounded them. Perhaps he’s a better fighter, but it was 5v1 and they had guns and were threatening to hurt Dina. Joel would rather sacrifice himself than risk harm to a young woman, considering his daughter situation.

Still disappointing to see him go out like that, but perhaps that’s the nature of the apocalypse. Not every hero gets a glorious death from a bloater or psycho raider. Sometimes you survive the zombie outbreak and later get killed by a vindictive 25 year old with questionable fighting and survival skills. A lot of apocalypse survival probably comes down to good or bad luck.

Also important to remember that the scene began with him taking a shotgun blast to his kneecaps. Once he realized who they were, there was no avenue to talk his way out of it, and dude probably couldn't even stand up, much less fight.

"Oh shut the fuck up and do it already" because he doesn't give a shit about hearing her sob story is pretty in character. I went on YouTube to see the game version, and it's, "Why don't you say whatever speech you've got rehearsed and get this over with." Not delaying the inevitable with pointless talking sounds like Joel to me.

I enjoyed that episode. There wasn’t much action, but the plot is moving forward and many of the scenes were beautifully shot. I think it was a good follow up to the last episode which was action packed

Dina is a great addition so far and more than just a token pretty face. She can’t replace Joel, probably no one can, but her personality complements Ellie well. She has a strong voice, she’s intelligent, and she has a more positive vibe to offset Ellie’s moodiness and cynicism. In only 3 episodes, they’ve given me a new character to be invested in and care about.

I predict that Tommy and Jesse will set out after them once they learn they are gone. There will come a point where the girls are backed into a corner and the guys will show up to help.

They must have a massive stockpile of shampoo and conditioner in Seattle.

Apparently, it's very important that they max out the attractiveness of the actresses playing teenage girls for...reasons.

Just because she’s asleep doesn’t mean they can’t still blow her face off. It was 5 (?) on 1 with multiple guns to his zero. He’s also 60. Joel knows how to assess a situation. Sometimes you’re cooked.

He was also tormented by guilt. The show wasn't exactly subtle about it. A part of him felt he deserved what was coming and maybe wanted it. Or at least was resigned to it. That's how I read it anyway. It never crossed my mind that the show was disservicing the Joel character by not having him go full Bourne mode.

Jackson Hole to Seattle is 850 miles. Are we to believe outside of one rainstorm, two small women on a horse would have an uneventful trip? Then they ride into Seattle after seeing a fresh murder site. Oh, “look a piece of shit, lets be seen in broad daylight for miles on the same path as the war atrocities!”

0 for 3 episode-wise

>Good
Deena the Explorer
Catherine O’Hara

>Bad
Casual Seattle daytrip
Unexplained cult without context, bringing hammers to a gunfight
The H&M Wolves storming the REI closing scene

>Ugly
Pacing issues
Ellie’s dialogue and likeability, not her looks
