Katie Porter is a very bright woman

Grace Hopper. What a woman. What does that have to do with Representative Katie Porter? A society that disregards half of it's brain power as unworthy or incapable of significant contributions is a weak society and humanity is the worse for it.

And here is Katie Porter doing Katie Porter things; click and read the whole thread, you won't be disappointed.

At first blush this seemed very fucky. The linked article gives some explanation:

"The Financial Services Committee is one of five House panels deemed “exclusive” by Democratic leaders under caucus rules adopted in July 2020.

Democrats on exclusive committees are barred by caucus rules from serving on any other committee without a waiver from the party’s steering committee, a panel of several dozen lawmakers chaired by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that determines committee assignments.

...

In a Nov. 30 letter to Pelosi, Porter asked to be considered for seats on the Oversight and Reform, Natural Resources, and Financial Services committees — in that order — in the new Congress that began on Jan. 3.

...

A senior Democratic aide familiar with the steering committee decision said it was risky for Porter to prioritize spots on other committees while asking for a waiver to retain her spot on Financial Services after Democrats lost seats in the 2020 election. A smaller Democratic majority means Democrats have a smaller ratio of seats per committee."

I definitely heart Porter, and this decision may still be due to some Dem leadership fuckery, but it's not like they kicked her out of the position for no reason.

Her sister voted for her Bill Maher appearance. She got his thin skin mad because she got the bigger laughs.

That, and the fact that she didn't back down from expedient political grounds from divisive issues (gun violence).

The magic this woman can work with a whiteboard:

Can you imagine her as a football coach, breaking down game film with the team after a loss?

In 1982 there was a movie with Paul Newman called The Verdict.  He plays an alcoholic lawyer.  He talks about how bad his drinking got:  "I forgot the first thing they teach you in law school:  Never ask a question if you don't already know the answer."

This woman doesn't seem to realize Katie already knows the answers to her questions.  She's either very dumb or already given up, or both.

I'd cut her from the team.

I got the impression the other woman agreed with Porter's position. Like she was a career civil servant who was pissed at politics keeping her from doing anything.

I have said this several times, but many of the Democratic representatives in the House and Senate that are so much better than everyone else at getting to the truth of the matter are women. I find the Democratic women in general to be just better at governing than the men. Representative Porter is just phenomenal. She should be the template for how Democrats go about governing the country at the federal level.

Back in the day I was able to hack into some porn sites with a username of “username” and a password of “password.” There were other accounts that were similarly insecure, like one with a username of “jesus” and a password of “christ.” Might have been capitalized, I can’t recall.

On his campaign website, Taurus has called for a 25-year moratorium on immigration, a prohibition on vaccine passports, a ban on teaching critical race theory and LGBT issues in schools, the pardoning of everyone involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection in the nation’s capital, and other controversial views.

Ya think?

“Katie Porter is a far-left ideologue supported by Bay Area academics, the billionaire class and foreign lobbies!” [Taurus] wrote in the post.

God damn those far lefties with their billionaire backers! We need politicians supported by grassroots, salt-of-the-earth working class people like Sheldon Adelson, Peter Thiel, Dan Snyder, the Koch brothers, and Robert Mercer.
