Terms of the extension have not yet been shared, but we will update as they become available.

It marks the second straight season Lashlee has inked an extension.

Would be really funny if TCU fires Dykes and hires him.

Aren't they roughly equivalent at this point? SMU's facilities are really good these days.

SMU can’t be considered a real program until they get serious about a stadium. Ford field isn’t as big or as nice as some TXHSFB stadiums.

And they’re having a very nice season. TCU’s had a bunch of those this century. A nice season doesn’t make a sustainable program.

That said, TCU squandered every bit of its momentum from the CFB CG run (using GP’s players) on a second-rate HFBC and a POS OC who’s not even good at his job. They’ve regressed quickly from GP’s sustainable program. So maybe you’re right.

SMU just finished a fancy end zone project and made improvements and looks nice as hell. Capacity is still relatively small but the money is in TV these days anyway.

Which Texas HS stadiums have 32K seats?

The new end zone is pretty nice. If they increased capacity I would think it would only be for suites or premium seating. They could sell those.

Fair enough.  I thought it was even smaller than that.

But 32k is not adequate for P4. Smaller schools like Baylor, TCU, and SMU should not be building Kroger tackle boxes, but 40-50,000, done right, gives a good college game day experience. SMU’s going to need to up their game if they continue to have on-the-field success.

As an aside, I actually like SMU.  I dated a girl from there through undergrad and attended both the last game at Cowboys stadium before the death penalty, and the first game on campus after. I hope they can find sustained success in the ACC (if it survives).

Really good branding.

Going to be interesting to see what we do over the next few years. I think the potential capital and potential fanbase is big being in a city like Dallas.

And I mean - recruiting it may be the best spot in the country.

SMU.  I’m pretty sure the Grateful Dead played, on 12/26/69, the same stage McFarlin, upon which I was handed my high school diploma. Other than that, I really never thought much about that place.

Just to echo the points made by others, Ford Stadium is great for SMU's needs right now, and its size is very consistent with the current trend in college football.

Attendance across college football is declining.  And for that reason, you're seeing other private schools in P4 conferences downsize their stadiums (e.g., Stanford, Northwestern).  And when Northwestern went to a tiny temporary stadium this year, it actually increased attendance and revenue.

And cross-posting to the Big XII thread, the comparison to the other P4 private schools that are in major metropolitan areas is interesting:

USC: L.A. Memorial Coliseum, 77,500. Undergrad enrollment, 21,000.

Miami: Hard Rock Stadium, 65,326. Undergrad enrollment, 12,883

(Miami and USC’s respective home venues are, or were, home to NFL teams. Miami’s home stadium is 21 miles from its campus.)

Stanford: Stanford Stadium, 50,424. Undergrad enrollment, 8,054

TCU: Amon G. Carter Stadium, 47,000. Undergrad enrollment, 11,049

Boston College: Alumni Stadium, 44,500.Undergrad enrollment, 9,575

Vanderbilt: FirstBank Stadium, 41,000. Undergrad enrollment, 7,152

Northwestern: Ryan Field, 35,000*. Undergrad enrollment, 8,846 (* Ryan Field is slated to open in 2026)

SMU: Gerald J. Ford Stadium, 32,000. Undergrad enrollment, 7,285

The Star-Telegram's commentary from which these numbers are sourced points out that TCU isn't filling up its stadium, and it's a really bad look.  You'd really rather be SMU and Northwestern, which are filling their stadiums with premium-seat holders, than TCU, which can't fill Amon Carter Stadium.

So I'd say that SMU is very serious about its stadium.  Ford Stadium is probably the perfect stadium for SMU right now and into the foreseeable future.

Rick Hart leaving as AD after this year.

Didn't he get in a Twitter slap fight with Iowa State’s AD last year over the CFP rankings?

Just saw that. May deserve a thread with Hartzell leading the search. I can't imagine Hart was forced out - football just had its best season in 40 years and basketball is playing well in it's first season under Enfield. Volleyball had a nice season as well and soccer continues to be a national program.

Is CDC a non-starter? There's nothing to lead me to believe he doesn't like his job and SMU is a downgrade prestige wise (likely wouldn't be money wise) but I wonder if the impending RT shit is something he doesn't want to deal with.

SMU football is expected to get better, but if it doesn't, do SMU fans moan as much as we do? SMU doesn't have baseball, and does anyone care about SMU bball?

Bball was a blast and Moody was an amazing environment when Larry Brown had us rolling.  When football is bad people forget pretty quickly about going to the games but the Blvd is still fun.

It's just a totally different job in general. Public vs. private, huge difference in alumni and undergrad count, different BMD landscape (probably less names to deal with).

It's a very attractive job right now for a lot of reasons, though. You wouldn't have to make a hire in either revenue sport. You'd be well paid. It's in the middle of a huge city.

This place will melt down like texags if CDC goes to SMU and takes Schloss to start up the new baseball program.

I find it hard to believe that Jay would gut his alma mater like that and be the public enemy #1 in Austin.

I don't know I would hope he would do his fucking job as the president of SMU. No one forced him to leave his "alma mater".

I don't think CDC goes anywhere but I guarantee you that phone call is being made.

You can still do your fucking job and not burn all the bridges in the process. He can always find another job if things don't work out at SMU, but he would have done irreparable damage with his alma mater and many powerful people in Texas of he were to gut our athletic department.

What the fuck are you talking about? What "bridges"? He was already the president at Texas - he decided to leave. Stealing CDC from Texas would only add to his allure and political capital. That's a massive resume note.

If he cared that much about Texas BMD's (the only people that would be offended) he wouldn't have left the job in the first place.

Again - I doubt it's happening - but it is going to be pursued.

I mainly think this opening is interesting because it's an extremely cushy job that could attract any AD in the country. I don't think anyone is off-limits.

of course he makes that call, with a very large check in hand. i'd imagine smu has some big cigars

make him tell you no. cdc can easily not take the call.

im thinking it doesn't go anywhere

He left the job because the pressure was too much. He got paid a lot more for a job with less pressure. Anyone can understand that and he will always be welcome back at UT. If he poaches the most successful AD in the country from us, that's when you burn the bridges. Can't believe I had to spell it out for you.

No shit. That's all that I'm saying and I agree that I doubt CDC leaves.

SMU needs to know its place and stay in its lane. Last time it didn’t, it fucked itself over for decades. (And saying that with an MBA from Cox)

SMU is a regional private school. It’s nice that its rich alums want good sports teams. They are still, even at peak performance, #4 in Dallas, after Texas, TAMU and OU (and when not at peak, they are behind TT, OSU and Arkansas)

Give me a break. CDC isn’t leaving UT for freaking SMU. That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read this year, and there have been some insanely ridiculous things in the news this year.
