Add two more names to the Suns’ coaching search.

A league source said the Suns have spoken to former Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd as well as former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro.

Kidd, who has openly campaigned for the job, was fired as Bucks coach after 45 games this season. He has a 183-190 career coaching record but his tenures in Brooklyn and Milwaukee reportedly ended after conflicts with management.

Del Negro played for the Suns in 2000-2001 and for two games in 2001-02. He was named Phoenix’s director of player personnel in 2006 and one year later was promoted to assistant general manager.

Del Negro has a 210-184 record in five seasons as a head coach. His best season came in 2012-13 when he led the Clippers to a 56-26 record and first-place finish in the Pacific Division. Los Angeles lost in the first round of the playoffs, however, and the team did not renew his contract following the season.

The Suns reportedly have conducted or will conduct interviews with several other candidates, including interim coach Jay Triano, former Memphis coach David Fizdale, Utah assistant Igor Koskoskov, former Charlotte coach Steve Clifford, former Orlando and Indiana coach Frank Vogel, former Houston coach Kevin McHale and San Antonio assistant James Borrego.

the suns have some young talent and are in a position to add more to it.  why on earth go after some old school hardass (kidd) or complete retread (del negro)?

some team really needs to break the bank for jay wright.  he runs a modern offense and would be so much more interesting than some also ran.

Should be one of the hottest names on the coaching market.

Yeah... that thing with Bud in Atlanta had a bizarre trajectory. He went from random Spurs assistant to coach of the year to being both coach and GM after Danny Ferry shot himself in the foot and then got his power stripped from him. The front office handled that poorly. They should have never put him in charge of everything. Now they are in a massive rebuild.

He's a good coach, though. Probably the best of all the Pop assistants.

committed to tanking for a couple of years i see.

The Grizzlies dont know what the hell they are doing. They didnt want to trade Gasol and Tyreke, and now JB is the full time coach?  WTH?!? JB is never the answer to your head coach situation.

Agreed... But this is an team that is the end all be all of not only Memphis, but east Tennessee, so there's wiggle room for experimenting...

Take that for data!

Damn..... that's a better job than it used to be but they're still 2-3 years away from contending..... minimum.  Also, Fizdale clashed with his Euro superstar and rumored to not be popular with management in Memphis (although they're a notoriously fickle franchise), now Fizdale gets a Euro superstar and dysfunctional front office???  Okay.

And bullshit Messina didn't get the first Euro born job...... Loggins fucks him again!!!!

No but detroit doesn’t get nice things and he’s the best I can think of off the top of my head.

I get it, but I would hope that even Detroit can do better than a former player who has yet to demonstrate any of the skills necessary to GM a team.

Another guy that had no business getting full control.  His firing was ovedue but the Puistons owner doesn't really care about winning.    I have no ideat how/why Chauncey keeps getting mentioned for these positions though.

What a mess in Detroit.  Saddle themselves with Blake Griffin's 4-year albatross of a contract, then fire the guy who made the trade a few months later.
I wonder if they would go for a Melo/Blake swap? New management might be willing to clear the books quickly, and OKC gets it's local hero.

Presti already got Russ to sign on the line which is dotted by spending recklessly on Melo. No way he doubles down on the stupidity now. They'll go back to being more prudent/cheap.

...but doesn't melo still have his no trade clause?  can't really see him wanting to go to detroit.

That is correct, he gets to keep it in his contract for the duration of the original deal. He's allowed to waive it for any trade involving him, but he must do so each time.

Yep.... He's not going to want to go to fucking Detroit.  Blake to OKC was bantered about last year too....

Unless..... it's mid-season and they could work out a buy-out of Melo, then he could sit out the allotted time and get to a contender (Lebron) by the playoffs..... The issue is by that time, you've probably lost PG13 and stuck with those two huge max contracts in Russell and Blake's to scrounge around the bottom 4 playoff tams for the next 4-5 years seems like a terrible fate.

Only if they have an agreement to buy out immediately

Sucks for Casey but when a franchise fails so completely after making wholesale strategic changes, someone is going to be scapegoated.  Frankly, and this probably won't be popular, but Ujiri is more to blame because their roster is a nice, solid playoff roster but there is no chance at a championship with it and it has plenty of bad contracts (Ibaka, Lowry, Powell).  Toronto, however, is really a unique situation so it's really hard to build a winner and he's done that.  It's a strange and challenging situation.  Someone who did a really nice job was going to lose their job because they couldn't break their ceiling.  The roster is more to blame than the coaching IMO but neither guy is elite at their position....
