College Football in 2020 in danger?

Most of them probably already have antibodies for it. These guys have not been social distancing this whole time. You can find workout videos of HS, College, and NFL guys working out this whole time in close proximity to other players while using  the same equipment. Coming back for organized football doesn’t make a big increase in their risk to get it, and UT is going to be open this fall, so them being in dorms, cafeteria, etc. is not a greater risk than the average student will be taking.

MLB did a study and only 1% or so had antibodies.  Now this is different with younger kids but I'd bet less than 10% have antibodies.

Like I said earlier in the thread, they need to be tested BEFORE they come back or they’re just introducing it to the team. Of course some schools like arky and mizzou aren’t planning to test at all until there are symptoms, which will lead to much greater problems.

Good to know. I’d guess MLB players have been following social distancing guidelines quite a bit more but that does indicate a lower number than I would have thought. I assume colleges will be doing antibody test when or before players report, so we’ll hopefully find out soon.

What’s your opinion on the reliability of the antibody tests? I’ve heard a lot of mixed stuff on their reliability.

They still vary a lot - many suck, sadly.  I was a lot more hopeful on those.  I'll say of the people I test - in a major metro - we are seeing less than 5% positive.  Even if they're off by a lot it would be less than 10% in a city like Chicago.  Only NYC is probably higher...

Yeah I'd say it's a stretch.  I do think a higher percentage of them will have already had it compared to the rest of the population, but that doesn't translate to "most of them."

Yes, this is one of the main hoaxer talking points. I’ve heard it for weeks. Any day the bombshell is going to drop, proving the hoax, according to them. Of course, it’ll only be reported on their media of choice, whatever corner of the internet they lurk in.

Lol.  You’re a fucking moron if you think it was a hoax.

Yeah and there are at least 2 households of these morons on my block where I live in Austin, and a couple more at my work. One of those is right across the culdesac...having kids over for playdates, adults over for parties throughout the lockdown, etc. It's unreal.

Meanwhile our friends in Long Island have lost 8 teachers in their school district and a dozen or so more people just in their neighborhood. They don't think it's a hoax. Their fucking kids can't even sleep at night, freaking out that their friends are gonna die.

To be fair, "mankind will expire in 2020" still looks like a decent bet even without covid.

I dunno about 2020, but it's apparent that we're on the downward slope, and accelerating.

How can we rationalize protecting the predominately white fans in the stand with social distancing while allowing the predominately black players be as close as humanly possible day after day just to entertain the predominately white fans?

In the NFL, the union will likely agree to take the risk so the players can go to work and get paid.  In college....

FML, this is the absolute epitome of Identity Politics at its worst.

I am a million miles from being a hoaxer, but I do worry about the financial incentive to hospitals to over-attribute deaths to COVID-19 due to the financial realities and the lost revenue they have suffered due to cancelled elective procedures.  They are in a position that gives them great incentive to skew the data.

I'm not sure antibodies mean anything. My girlfriend is a nurse, and she has had Covid twice now. I'm not sure there has been a comprehensive study on the ability of antibodies to stave off the virus. The good news is she has kicked Covid's ass twice.

They did a study a while back that says you can only get it once. The people in Japan that got it twice, had false positives.

But to say the team is predominately black and the crowd is predominately white is not incorrect.

I'm not sure how many people realize that this country is still by far mostly white and then mestizo or white Hispanic before black.

But yes, in basketball and football athletes at D1 and pro levels skew very  black.

Aggy is aggy and all but honestly I'd rather do that strategy than the excess pussy footing around like those Euros are doing with soccer where they get mad when players don't social distance after a goal.
you take more risk than most people do.

Professional athletes have been following social distancing for decades by default, celebrity effect.

Outside of banging multi random sloots, they are the poster child for self quarantined.

I do not recall worrying in 2018 about playing football....  I was living in Colorado at that time but I swear I would have heard something about it had it gone on 😉

The daily Covid case in Missouri has dropped to 1%. Since the pool party in the Ozarks that was going to cause another outbreak, rates are still declining in Missouri. This is yet another example of how planting a flag in the ground on such a new and unknown subject can make you look very foolish in retrospect.

Aggy has a much higher proportion of human cubes than most teams. Guys like that are at elevated risk. That would be a poor choice for any team, but especially aggy.

Yeah the narrative is dead.  I had so many friends getting triggered on Facebook by the ozarks, the photo of the party in Houston at CLE and that New Braunfels event then they killed George Floyd and all but the ardent quarantine enthusiast finally dropped the ball but there are still the occasional fear porn moles who crop up citing the College of London study that Texas is uncontrolled.  This is the same College of London projections that said 2.2 million Americans were going to die back in March group.

Co-morbidities are definitely a bad thing LOL well maybe in this case they are a good thing hahaha.

At first that’s how they celebrated. It’s hard to blame them considering there is no playbook on how to act especially being the first sport to start. But now they are celebrating more normally.

Is that the same study that was overseen by the dude that was asking his married mistress to break quarantine to fuck him, and then go back to her husband and children?

Uh, playing in the fall is still not a very good idea, in my opinion. A spring season brings in the cash but still buys time, and doesn't run nearly as much risk of getting derailed after it starts. It's pretty clear fall is the plan though. Your illiterate internet tough guy shitick is exactly what I was referring to.

More good news out on Covid. It appears asymptomatic people are not spreading to secondary infections like we initially thought. Isolating sick people who show symptoms looks like it can be an effective way to manage going forward.

A lot of athletes who test positive are truly asymptomatic. Some are not, obviously. But this goes against the prior belief that a perfectly healthy feeling person can unknowingly just spread  the virus around.

That is good news in terms of chances of spreading the virus among teammates and staff, doesn't really help depth charts if an asymptomatic player still has to self quarantine for 1-2 weeks. I can't see any rational way around that..
