I feel like there’s a lot of bullshit involved with people’s knowledge of the filming locations.  I definitely remember hearing that the baseball field was the one by lions and that house park was the football field.  and some other bullshit places too that don’t immediately come to mind.

I can confirm it's the field at Northwest park.  I played pony ball there.  And the football field is most definitely Burger Center.

I met Wiley Wiggins (Mitch) at Casino el Camino once and had a couple of beers.  Nice enough guy.  I also walk my dogs by Linklater's house every morning.

My guess is that Reneé didn't mention Dazed and Confused because she wasn't in it.  You likely have her confused with Joey Lauren Adams.  It's a common mistake.

Wrong.  They are easy to confuse though, because they're both overrated pasty-white squint-eyed bitches.

Yeah.  I know.  The moose out front told me.  I vaguely recall even knowing this at one time, but all this yelling at clouds to stay off my lawn takes a toll.  I was also led astray by Reneé's wikipedia page, but I should know better.  You'll be dazed and confused eventually too.

If you ever had the misfortune of playing me in pool, you’d eventually hear me say “you should be glad I let you play at my table.”

Now hold on a second. Renee is a Longhorn with two Oscars.

I don’t have a personal connection to the movie that I can think of, but one of my RTF professors was in Slacker. Raquel Tsangari I think her name was. Played the cousin on a bike at Trophy’s.

But Dazed is a a favorite of mine. In 2003 my brother and I tried to find all the filming locations. This was before that shit was readily available online. We drove around Austin and Georgetown finding most of them. Now it’s easy (although many are gone now).

I still watch the movie once a year in May. It’s the most appropriate time to view it.

Yeah, the first time I saw it, I thought that Linklater must have graduated high school with me because it was so much like our graduation night.

Also, I enjoyed this, mainly just to see every character:

Yep, i played Pony ball there a couple years before filming.  Part of the deal with the Pony field was to add that gate in right field.  It didn't exist prior to the movie.

Most of the car chase at the beginning of the film was in the neighborhood right around that area too.

It was Ballards grocery on Medical parkway where they got shot at.

Is that the Shell station now?

I don't live in that area anymore and haven't for quite some time, but looking at google maps I would say yes.  It was at the intersection of Medical Arts, 40th and Marathon.

Mitch's buddy Tommy, (brown haired kid, not the blonde) was played by a guy that went to UT, now a lawyer.  Former colleague in Dallas and now he lives in Austin.  Cool guy, big horns fan.  Would not be surprised if he is a poster here.

So do I. Gonna start looking for a drunken redneck now.

Mitch was a software engineer or something at ATT Wifi off of Ben White there maybe 5 years ago when I worked there. So I guess he stuck around town.

Pickford’s mom was my landlord in law school.
She was a pretty nice-looking gal, for real.

Pickford's mom used to swim at the old Anna Hiss Gym pool, before it was razed to make the petroleum geology building, or whatever it is now. I lifeguard-ed there as an undergrad. The first time I recognized her, I yelled out, "Hey its Pickford's mom!" She laughed, and we chatted a bit. She was cool. I remember her looking younger than she does in that picture.

Were the interior shots of the emporium filmed at poodle dog? That’s what I always heard.

I watched some doc where Linklater said they were happy with the Violet Crown center because they were able to use the unused interior to create the Emporium, so I assume it wasn't the Poodle Dog.

I thought the interior of the Emporium was the old Austin Cue Club, which was on 51st and airport, or thereabouts, iirc?

I dated a chick for a while that drove a VW Thing. One day a card appeared on her windshield. Linklater or somebody saw it and wanted to use it in the movie. They rented it for a couple of days for a hundred bucks a day. You can see it very briefly in a scene when they are driving around before they go to the party.

Found it. At the 0:11 sec mark:

Yeah, the actually rankings were terrible.  Tony cooler than Pickford?  Come on!

Yeah, those rankings are terrible.

At the risk of a neg rep beat down, I'm going to put forth the proposition that Pickford was way cooler than even Wooderson. Pickford had the hot, stoner girlfriend, was going to host the party, played fooseball like a beast, and his orange, 1970 Pontiac GTO would smoke Wooderson's Chevy Chevelle*, Clint's 74 Trans Am,  or O'bannon's Plymouth Duster.

*even with the 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower.

I mean, there is nothing cooler than this car (0:38):

It was the interior of the Violet Crown Center. They mentioned it being an empty space that they were able to paint the walls.

The "Emporium"  (exterior) building was located on N. Burnet near Top Notch, but on the other side of the road.

Nope. You can see the light at Lamar and Brentwood, as well as the old Centenial in the exterior shots. The kids dump paint on Affleck from the roof of what used to be the old skating rink across Brentwood.

Well, I suppose I could be wrong, but I remember driving over there in 1994 and there wasn't any doubt in my mind.  The exterior lined up and the building with the paint dumping matched perfectly.  There was a Centennial right where it was supposed to be, too.  No way to pick it out now on Google Maps since it's not like it used to be.  Learn something new every day.

/edit.  Well, I'll be 6610 N. Lamar at Brentwood.  Maybe that's where I was.  Been a few years.

The paint dumping building is still across the street (south) from stiles switch and the exterior of the emporium. I think maybe everyone is arguing the same thing.

First pic, Emporium. Second, paint dump. Right across the street from each other. If you follow down and take the next right, that street dead ends and is where they caught up and paddled the fat kid and had the trunk full of beer.

Good call. I never knew about that one. I wonder if the hipsters living in that new duplex right there have any idea.

This is correct and I used to skate there all of the time as a kid in the 60's.

Yeah, I went and looked after your first post.  That's definitely it.  I either knew that back then and have since forgotten about it or found some very similar stuff on N. Burnet back in the day.

It would be great if someone converted all of Austin back to 1990.

I'd buy the little old shithole I rented on the corner of Franklin and Guadalupe in a heartbeat.

There isn’t enough bandwidth in this site to list all the things I would have done differently in the 90s in hindsight.

Really.....there will soon be a new one in Hutto by the way.

Cannot wait since it is only a few miles from my office.
