So are there going to be additional screens next to the main video board?

From the drawing there seems to be additional video boards next to the main ones showing a ‘Make noice!’

I know this is Austin, so it’s not that unusual.... but Christ. I count 8 frickin’ cranes in this picture.

It’s crazy how much this city is growing / how different the skyline is every time I come back.

Dude, there are 4 cranes in NW Austin at Parmer & McNeil for the new Apple campus they're building. And that's just phase 1 (although I bet they scale back some on the final footprint).

Fuck the haters, this is is . When you can incorporate your logo--one of the most recognized and valuable brands in all of sports--into the functional design of your stadium and make it bad ass you do it.

I think it looks a lot better now than in the renderings.

It just feels a little... Cougar High. Hope it grows on me.

Those are the speaker covers. The “make noise” is just a placeholder until the space is sold.

Yeah, think it looks great.  Will be fucking awesome when it's pulsing in orange LED lights during the build up to the team running out for a big night game (Bama 2022 for example).
This. And if we're just settling for burnt orange lighting we're doing a disservice. Put a few million into a great lighting system that does more than just pulse. Sync it with the lighting of the tower. Get creative as fuck. Have our MOC call some Hollywood lighting specialists. The drone footage from above will be meme material for recruits for years.

Cougar High = scaffolding stacked on 4x4s. Baylor = vinyl banners on the sidelines made to look like faux brick.

This is cool. And I can't off the top of my head think of another school that could incorporate something similar into their stadium.

Would love to see South Carolina try.

There are rectangular steel boxes on the roofs of both towers.  The boxes are on the outside edges of the towers.  Any ideas what these would be?

Didn't CDC say there was some reason why you can't use orange leds?

Is this true? If so, very lame. How do you spend 170 million and somehow end up with a smaller videoboard than you had last year?

Miami has been incorporating their logo into stadium end zone design for years, even for road games....

The new board has an almost identical surface area, but the LED display will have a much higher pixel density than the old board making it brighter & higher resolution. Plus, it won't require the massive AC units to cool it like Godzillatron did.

So brighter + higher res + more efficient > just something "bigger."

It's the same board as last year but with 4 fewer panels in a wider configuration.

Agreed. This will become iconic.

Certain people never like anything new or different. Unfortunately I work with a lot of them.

Remember, there were idiots who hated the Tower when it was first built.

I’ll need to see it in person. It looks miles better than the renderings, and I know the scale is what it is for some capitol or downtown views, but it just feels dwarfed by the rest of the stadium. Maybe it’s because the only shots are from the north at high angles. The only field level pic didn’t have the East/west stands in frame.

Posted

Well, that soccer stadium IS the worst thing ever, but DKRTMS doesn't have the same level of patchwork eyesores within in. The south end zone is clearly an add-on, but it's looking more and more badass and will be absolutely brilliant on TV.

Very cool. Does have that feeling a lot of European soccer stadiums have where each stand was obviously built at a different time, which isn't necessarily the worst thing ever.

That’s a picture of Parkhead where the Glasgow Celtic play. I’ve been there and it’s actually pretty cool despite appearances.

Nope. St. James' Park in Newcastle. Close, but Parkhead has three big sides

They are most watchful about keeping the jigs where they belong though.
