The olds are not gonna like that and they will know exactly who is to blame. And before you say but MAGA that does not extend to their very own pocketbook.

Trump will blame it on Obama and Biden, they'll buy it, and put on their red hats and pull the lever.  Facts and the truth don't matter, you know that.

Yeah my nearest post office is on Congress at Ben White about half a mile away. The post office that services my address is the one way the hell over on Manchaca south of William Cannon.

Do you really expect your post office to be dead center in your zip code/delivery zone?  Some people are going to wind up being closest to one that doesn't serve them unless the foregoing is true.

Yeah, they are usually built on the edge of the zip code anyway, but zip codes are also gerrymandered based on historic boundaries and they rarely ever change even when town mergers and population growth occur.

I have a post office about 1,000 feet from me.  I have to walk past it to get to the subway, and then take the subway to get to my post office.  But I live near a pre-merger border in NYC and the zip code map reflects that.  It makes sense historically, but not logistically.  Incidentally, around me, this isn't unique to USPS.  The closest FedEx and UPS shipping and pick up facilities also don't serve my zip code.

We are into open fascism now.

This election is shaping up to be one for the ages.  One last shot at preventing Civil War or Revolution 2.0.

Also, Bezos should offer to distribute ballots in swing states for free.

Respectfully disagree. That logic holds up until it hurts THEM personally. These people are the first ones to hate lawyers and lawsuits and government subsidies until it happens to THEM and then they’re the first ones to want to sue. If they don’t get their checks they will know exactly why and who to blame and who they want to sue.

If you can kill the olds without them turning on you, you can fuck with their checks. It's the other guys, who are trying to take your freedoms and turn your precious white grandchildren into BLM antifas.

They (after Trump is thrown to the curb) need to repeal the law requiring them to fund retirement for workers 75 years in the future. That's requiring them to pay for people that aren't even born. (And if Trump gets his way won't have jobs to exist for them) This is a direct result of Republican manipulation to privatize the USPS. The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 was a slow working poison.

They won't if nobody tells them. My elderly mom calls every Sunday night and she's been bitching about them not getting their mail on time the past 3-4 weeks. She'd been blaming it on what she thought was just the local post office, and I explained to her that at that point I hadn't received mail since the prior Tuesday. I went on to explain the issue with Trump's new post master general and previous widespread expectations/hopes for absentee ballots.

She and my dad are avid Fox News folks and they had no idea (still won't change their vote).

Lord have mercy, you have inadvertently stepped onto my personal USPS soapbox and I welcome you. I have absolutely petrified complete strangers who have mistakenly bitched about the USPS to me until they were practically recoiling from the invisible finger I was verbally pointing at their chest as I enlightened them about the long game that the shipping companies and complicit politicians were playing with the Constitution with respect to the postal service. It is not an effective method for changing minds, but I was pretty sure they wouldn't be changed anyway so I let them know that Aunt Edna out in the sticks was sure going to enjoy paying for that last mile anytime she wanted something delivered. The Post Office is a miracle and a blessing and it has been the target as a potential cash cow of taxpayer dollars for the grifters for quite awhile. Damn them all to hell. And if it comes to fruition that Trump and Co succeed in dismantling this, I hope when the idiots wake up and realize that their meds they get via mail are now going to be held hostage that they recall the crazy lady who told them that they USPS is more essential than they ever realized and could (with appropriate funding and modernization) been a world wide force for American good.

I frequently supply our postal employees with food and snacks (always below the acceptable limit for gifts to federal employees). They live and work in our community and take a lot of abuse.

You know who could have delivered at home testing kits (among other things) to households during a pandemic? The USPS. As technology changed the USPS  could have worked in unison with private companies to assure information, products, and services were delivered in multiple ways from coast to coast. Really really sad and angry to see it come unglued with the rest of the intentional destruction.

Unpossible. They're elderly Southern Baptists. My dad firmly believes you don't for the candidate; you vote for the Party. My mom firmly believes it's a wife's duty to submit to her husband; ergo, her vote will always be the same as his. Besides, she has now started using the Trumpian nickname "Sleepy Joe." I used to try but have concluded they're a completely lost cause. As it is, my and my daughter's votes will cancel them out and soon (not soon enough for this election) will replace them completely.

It would seem like someone could sue the USPS for violating voters' rights or something if operational changes are put into place between now and the election. There must be a federal judge that would be open to telling the USPS to knock it off, or at least delay the changes.

EDIT: And based on my limited experience (6 month project) on a contract role with the USPS, a small delay could be enough to end it.

My Trumpkin family is not dealing with confirmed cases of Covid-19 and several other cases.  In one instance, one member opted so send her kid to her kids father after she has had a fever for over a week.  The kid's father lives with his parents, one in the hospital with the disease, one at home with the disease, and now the father has tested positive.  Their solution was to demand hydroxycholoroquine  and take medical advice from random people on facebook.  It is still the Lib's fault.

What is the GOP justification of this action? Is it that we will have voter fraud? Don't most states already have mail in voting? Is there rampant fraud already?

I mean, I know why he is doing it. I just want to know what the spin is and how it is justified by the GOP.

You know the Constitution crowd? They ought to be all over this, but they won't go there because they refuse to say the unspoken part: "my TEAM will lose." A democracy is not a sport and 'team politics' is not healthy. This was our last gasp of free air.

Voting Trump or GOP anywhere downballot is treason. Full stop.

Vote in person if you can. Help anyone in your life that needs to mail in do it incredibly early.

my parents were this exact way.  Then my dad died and my mom upholds what she believes were his choices.  Thinking for themselves is too much I guess.  Voting against self interest to own the Libs till they die and beyond.

Told y'all Trump was going to be "re-elected."   We have had our last free and fair election.  You live in a banana republic now.  Bienvenidos!

Well a vote for Hillary was the same as a vote for Trump was the message.  I remember that a bunch of people couldn't be bothered because sports and video games and apathy and Bernie boo hoo wasn't the pick and but Hillary's emails and then the Republic just slid into an Aristocratic state, with the feds supporting those in power.  So all those gun nuts afraid of a socialism are fine with fascism?  Clue, you can vote in a socialist state.

Citizens with rights should vote, especially since there is a history of people fighting and dying for those rights. Not voting is unconscionable and is still a vote, only in the wrong direction.

Question that I probably should know the answer to - do most military personnel vote absentee?  I know deployed/TDY ones do.  Wondering how they feel about this.

You should start at thread on the topic and then invite Wulaw to join you. The ensuing discussion will last for pages. Btw, I didn't @ him because I don't want him derailing this thread too.

How the fuck is there nothing we can do about this?

Congress is full of people that benefit from being rich.  If the old Democrats in Congress can't summon up the strength to move the needle daily then our rights get trampled on daily.  Nancy does something or other in Congress along with a few others that have been largely silent.  We need them to control the airwaves and kick legislation to the Senate constantly.  So what if Republicans block it--call them out for doing so, every day until November.  They can't just sit by--they need to work at it. Call our local and state government reps now because it won't get easier in retrospect.
