Won't last. 38 to 46 percent of the country will favor its complete abolition by the end of the week.

These people's devotion to Trump knows no bounds.

Ā

I fully expect "fuck the mail!" chants or some such at his upcoming rallies.Ā

My mailman told me he will be at the DNC on Thursday, protesting withĀ a bunch of other postal workers. I am going to join them.

Why would you protest at the DNC? I realize you're in the city based upon your avatar, but I mean, aren't you showing up to protest the guys trying to save the USPS?

Same reason I called all of my reps, Democrats included,Ā and demanded action.

Same. Ā Iā€™ll go a few days without getting anything and then get a lot. Ā I see the mail guy out every day, though.

Iā€™ve been checking the post marks and nothing is crazy late so thereā€™s that. Ā I still pay all of our bills through the mail and only one check seemed like it took a long time.

When I was outside yesterday, the special delivery truck for USPS came screaming down our street (we live on a dead-end) to my neighbors' home. Driver must have practically thrown that package from the truck while it was still moving they were so fast. They are valiantly attempting to keep up is all I gotta say. I need to take them some more cookies.

Anecdotal and just a single data point, but I've received zero pieces of mail for my office since this time last week.Ā  That has never happened before.

Hell, I get pieces of mail for every business around my studio. Those mail carriers...MENSA members every single one....

Postal worker: San Antonio post office hid backlogged mail from congressman

https://www.expressnews.com/news/local/article/Two-more-San-Antonio-Postal-Service-machines-set-15495702.php?utm_campaign=CMS Sharing Tools (Premium)&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral

Spoiler

The postmaster general ordered the removal of six mail sorting machines in San Antonio, two more than previously known to postal union leaders, who say cuts to the U.S. Postal Service are causing long delays in mail delivery.

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, confirmed the removal of the machines Wednesday after touring the main San Antonio post office and speaking with Dennis Stasa, senior plant manager for the Postal Serviceā€™s Rio Grande District.

ā€œThey were told by Washington to remove those six machines,ā€ Castro said outside the post office, on Perrin Beitel. ā€œ(Stasa) said they have been able to carry out their work. But as I told him, even my own mom had an issue getting medicine on time that sheā€™s usually able to get in a few days. And others have shared similar stories.ā€

Ā

When asked whether the processing hub showed signs of disarray, such as backed-up mail, Castro said it was not a busy time of day and the operation ā€œlooked orderly.ā€ But Carlos Barrios, clerk craft director at the plant, later said mail handlers were directed to remove large piles of mail before Castroā€™s visit in an effort to deceive the congressman.

ā€œThis mail has been sitting there for weeks and weeks out,ā€ Barrios said. ā€œSo rather than show Castro when he comes in and he sees the cluster there, itā€™s best to not even have it there. So they moved it and they transported the majority of that to the north dock, where they were put on a trailer so they can be sent to Austin.ā€

Barrios added, ā€œThey played (Castro) for a fool.ā€

Ā

Castro demanded an explanation after learning of the alleged deception.

ā€œIf this conduct is true, itā€™s outrageous that USPS management would attempt to deceive the people of San Antonio about the condition of postal operations,ā€ the congressman said in a statement. ā€œI expect an explanation from USPS leadership and an immediate reversal of these delays: Deliver the peopleā€™s mail now.ā€

Asked to respond to Barriosā€™ allegation, Stasa referred a reporter to an unrelated statement made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Tuesday saying he has suspended cutbacks until after the November election.

Also Wednesday, Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales requested a legal opinion from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on whether a district attorney may prosecute a federal official who knowingly violates the Texas Election Code by preventing Texas voters ā€” particularly those age 65 or older ā€” from voting by mail.

Ā

ā€œIf Bexar County residents cannot rely on the USPS to deliver things like medication or pay bills on time, how can they be certain their ballots will be received, let alone counted?ā€ Gonzales said.

San Antonians have found that the Postal Service has grown sluggish in recent weeks, delaying deliveries of medicine, bills and other parcels. The reason, according to the leaders of postal unions, is recentĀ rulesĀ put in place by DeJoy, a Republican mega-donor and supporter of President Donald Trump.

The changes, including the elimination of employee overtime, hit the Postal Service ahead of an election in which an unprecedented number of Americans are expected to vote by mail.

Congressional Democrats have pushed to aid the financially strapped Postal Service, but Trump has said he hopes to starve the agency of funds to prevent universal mail-in voting, claiming without evidence that such voting would lead to a fraudulent election.

DeJoy, who took office in June, said he would suspend the cutbacks, including moving machinery, until after the election to ā€œavoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail.ā€

But Castro said it was unclear whether a suspension would mean a reversal of actions already taken by the new postmaster general, who is scheduled to testify before the House on Monday.

ā€œWeā€™re certainly going to ask about (the machines) on Monday,ā€ Castro said.

Ā

Two of the six machines removed from the processing plant on Perrin Beitel were scheduled to be moved to Austin, postal union officials said, despite promises from DeJoy that all cost-saving moves would stop until after the election. The two machines sort tricky pieces of mail, such as those without forwarding addresses.

Relocating those two machines would mean taking an additional day to transfer such mail to Austinā€™s facility to get it sorted there, causing deliveries to ā€œfall further behind,ā€ Barrios said.

ā€œThe impact on delay is really going to fall on Austin now,ā€ he said.

On Castroā€™s tour Wednesday, Stasa told the congressman that removing the machines ā€œwas a way for them to continue doing their work, but also to remove at this point what seems to be unnecessary equipment, at least according to the higher-ups,ā€ Castro said. ā€œHe did promise to me that he would push back if there was a problem or if he perceived a problem in carrying out their mission with any orders that were given. And I think thatā€™s quite honestly what the citizens of San Antonio would expect.ā€

Ā

Betty Hernandez, a San Antonio spokeswoman for the Postal Service, said she didnā€™t know whether the additional two machines still would be moved.

Union officials said the reduction would lead to more delays in delivery that San Antonians say have caused late bill payments and slowed the arrival of mail-order medicines. The delays mean carriers can no longer promise a letter or medicine will be delivered the next day, they said.

ā€œTheyā€™re telling the carriers, ā€˜If you canā€™t finish your route in eight hours, bring your mail back,ā€™ā€ said Ruben Martinez, who retired in June after 38 years with the Postal Service.

OnĀ ExpressNews.com:Ā Postal Service cuts ā€˜hurting peopleā€™s livesā€™

Ā

Martinez wanted to work four more years, but the pandemic and the new postmasterā€™s initiatives ā€œforced my hand to retire,ā€ he said.

Morale started to deteriorate when all the changes came about, Martinez said.

ā€œYou canā€™t process all the mail like you used to,ā€ he said. ā€œThereā€™s a lot of mail that would be processed, but itā€™s just sitting there. ā€¦ You canā€™t do it because you donā€™t have the machines.ā€

Martinez has even noticed his own mail getting delivered slower and slower since the pandemic started.

Ā

ā€œMy bills are coming back a little later and later,ā€ he said.

THIS.Ā  IS.Ā  WHAT.Ā  THEY.Ā  WANT.

They want to destroy literally every single institution that benefits the people/provides any public value.Ā  Destroy it, and you can then claim it is valueless.Ā Ā

Then, replace it with a for-profit enterprise that costs (and this is for real) 10X as much or more, and almost always, one that benefits the regime or its cronies (who then bestow their good fortune on the regime by throwing expensive parties at Mar A Lago, etc. -- basic money laundering shit).

This is a key hallmark of a fascist regime -- not using that term casually or rhetorically, fascism actually involves a corporatist system where corporations are intertwined with the regime, and the profits all spin out to insiders.

A criminal enterprise is running our country right now.Ā  And half of Americans think it's great.
