Trump continues to break the polling https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/30/politics/trump-polling-analysis/index.html
For those who say Biden is going to win in a landslide. This is starting to feel like 2016 all over again.
Or it means more than half the country knows that sloppy fat piece of shit is going to do everything he can to rig and steal the election.

Crime in Chicago is a problem. Guns crossing from Indiana into Chicago is a problem. But this crime has a long history going back for over a century. Heck just three decades ago, my older brother lived for several years on the south side and was relieved when all he lost was his wallet instead of his cracker ass when he got jumped.
It ain’t Joe Biden’s fault that Trump wants more bloodshed, actually relishes the bloodlust. That’s all Trump.
He’s the Richard Dawson President,  and he loves Running, man.

Not a chance. The spreads in 2016 between Trump and Clinton were jaw dropping.

I doubt much has changed.

Actually......

I believe Texas is narrowing up and will be in play by 2024. Beto won tarrant county. He’s the first Democrat to do that in forever. I’m hoping or expecting Biden to do better in tarrant county than Clinton did. Especially now that people know how crazy trump is.

People who compare Texas in 2016 to today just don’t understand the state.

Hillary was very unpopular here. But so was trump. Get a rope.

He was expected to win by 12 and won by 9 in an atmosphere where nobody gave a shit anyway because the result was preordained.

Biden and trump are tied in the polls here. Trump is severely disliked in Texas except in the west Texas rural cow shit smelling shitholes that have very few people living there. And Biden is liked. Every political guy I know in Texas blew a huge sigh of relief when Biden beat Bernie because it will help them retake the Texas house. It wasn’t even close.

Williamson and  Tarrant county voted for beto. If you don’t understand the importance of that, you don’t understand the state.

There is also a triangle of Trump that encompasses Montgomery, Tomball, Brenham, and the Bryan/College Station area. I haven’t needed to take the backroads to Houston in awhile and am mostly on 290 now, but when I was traveling that area in the past year, it was Trumpy.

This guy on youtube took current averages and accounted for the 2016 election day shift between actual numbers and final polls. For example, Texas was +11.7 in 2016 in polls, actually won by +9. Currently Texas is +1.2, so the same 2.7 point shift would give Biden a win in Texas. His map accounting for that looks like this. Even if we take out Texas and call that a pipe dream, it's still favorable.

Not going to happen but it'd be pretty poetic if Trump is ultimately responsible for and defeated by a new blue wall on the border with Mexico.

Economic gdp, unemployment, other factors that typically show- if this is what’s going on it favors the party in power- if this is what’s going on it favors the out of power party.

Of course you are right. But that is the worst part of the state and of minor importance overall. Like 5 percent at best? Who cares.

Antidotal, but I have had two mid 30s friends last week who in the past would talk about how Trump was a dipshit and made it clear they would never vote for him Now tell me that Biden is crazy due to BLM. They both claim that BLM started out great, but has now been coopted by Marxist.  Both are now saying they will no longer vote (though Reading between the lines I fear they are just too embarrassed to admit they will vote for Trump). Whoever is in charge of the DNC and/or BLM need better marketing. This shit is spreading like wildfire on social media.

I hate to break it to you, these two "friends" were never voting for Biden.

I doubt That. One at lead was very happy when he won the primary.

One thing everyone needs to recognize is that for the next few months this board is going to be inundated with pro trump message posters who all claim they didn’t vote for trump. It will be very annoying but because they are very stupid They are also very obvious. We are only witnessing the first waves.

I really didn’t vote for Trump, and won’t vote for Trump, but it’s definitely fantasy land to think he’s only popular in Texas with West Texas roughnecks and tiny shithole towns.   He’s much less popular in Texas than in most other Confederate states because (a) we have more Latinos here and (b) many of the white people here are more affluent than in the Deep South and Appalachia, and not so easily conned by lowest common denominator scams.   But what I’m observing is that he has way more support in the suburbs and even in the non-Austin urban areas than I would have hoped.

I hope I’m wrong, but the R next to the name, a tax cut, and some well timed fearmongering about rioters, illegal immigrants or socialism are going to be big (probably insurmountable) hurdles for Biden winning here.  Other regions will probably break more for Biden as Election Day nears, but I expect Texas to tilt more toward Trump.  I’ve just encountered way too many people who seemed down on Trump before, only to dig back in for Team R now that it’s showtime.

What I've learned the most is that the vast majority of Americans do not care about politics as long as it isn't affecting them. Their default mode used to be not being political, until they have to go vote, and then they would go back to not caring. If the economy hadn't tanked I fully believe Trump would be in a tight race with Biden.

However, the default mode is changing. Everyone is political to some extent now. It's impossible to ignore Trump news, or any other news for that matter. I wonder if this will carry forward post-Trump? If so, will independents remember their distaste of Trump and continue to flee the GOP? That might be the only hope against Trump's fear mongering, and maybe even other GOP agenda items.

Trump won Texas by 9 last time.

this time I think he will win it by 4 or maybe 5.  Anything higher than that, I will be surprised.

I told my father yesterday if he voted for Trump I would never speak to him again. I meant it.
After mostly controlling myself for the last 4 years (excluding the occasional alcohol-fueled family holiday) in regards to my parents Trump support, the dam is starting to break. I try not to instigate too much, but the recent blatant racism in the leadup to the election is just too much. If he is going to vote for that asshole, I want him to at least experience some shame or realize that his children respect him less than they once did for that indefensible decision. It's all so maddening and depressing...

Look at demographics bois. if Texans vote, it’s game over. If you continue to saturate talking points online, in social or print media  with “4 years away, 8 years away” it hurts the fucking cause. Plenty of untapped potential. 2016 Dems had the worst potential candidate running, while Republicans tossed out a shithead that would pump up the crowd more than usual. In 2020, that is flipped with Biden.

https://www.texastribune.org/2019/06/20/texas-hispanic-population-pace-surpass-white-residents/

Texans of color continue to easily outpace the white population

Soon to become a plurality, the Hispanic population in Texas has grown massively since 2010. Meanwhile, the white population is barely staying ahead of the Asian population in growth.

Race 2010 population 2018 population estimate Increase
Hispanic 9,460,921 11,368,849 1,907,928
Black 2,899,884 3,441,644 541,760
White 11,428,638 11,912,849 484,211
Asian 960,543 1,433,736 473,193

Cornyn shared this shit awhile back cause he knew his ass was fist deep if white people like myself were motivated. Quit being punk asses and tell people you will happily vote Biden. Don’t wait for them to ask, just say it. When they laugh, dead eye them. Remind everyone if Trump isn’t loyal to his wife he isn’t loyal to this country. He bailed on his country multiple times when they asked him for his effort.

Cut em off. My children aren’t going to associate with programmed racists. That’s why they have no relationship with my FIL, a racist Trumper. He was given a clear choice, and being a hateful racist was more important to him than a relationship with his grandchildren. Maybe for others, faced with that choice, they’ll choose better.

I will be able to convince my mom. All I have to say is all your children, their wives and grandchildren are voting for Biden and then she will. I’m afraid my dad is a lost cause though. I’m waiting until it’s much closer in time to bring that to a head.

you do you, but I can’t imagine any reason why I would want to maintain any kind of relationship, much less one I have a choice in whether or not to participate in it, with traitors and supporters of racism and the hatred of and cruelty towards others.

nah, this is different than the classic republican tag line of "democrats are evil", and if you can't see that after 4 years then I'm pretty sure nothing I say will convince you anyways.

It’s tough honestly. I love my dad. He’s supported me at every point of my life and would do anything for me. And has. He’s also a Trump supporter and we see the world in opposite ways. I struggle with it, I’m offended by it and my kids are getting to the age that they can’t understand it. What do you do?

Is it your position that there is no political position which would support a decision to terminate a familial relationship?

No. I said “I can’t imagine” it: 1) I’m speaking only for myself here, not laying down any sort of guidelines for others; 2) I’m speaking within the realm of political opinions I can realistically imagine someone in my family holding (insert the standard Nazi analogy here).

I do not support Donald Trump. I am often critical of him. But I don’t view partisan politics through the apocalyptic lens some here do. And I love my dad a lot more than any candidate, party, or nation.
