I appreciate your consistency brisket, but there's no October surprise. That super weak Hunter Biden was it. A quarter or more of the votes are already cast. All of the cards are played. We'll get two weeks of increasingly desperate and flailing tweets and a publicly display of a man trying to reconcile his own failure and public rejection, and that's about it.

They will arrest somebody.  If I’m Hillary, I would rent an Airbnb under an alias the week before the election.

Oh, I just think that now is when we see a lot of those “I was gonna vote Biden...but I just can’t because Hunter/socialism/antifa” come out of the woodwork, the Trumpers all get motivated, and their turnout surges.

And it only matters in a few states.

He will probably fire his campaign staff before 11/3 so he can blame them for the loss.

Maybe. I'm actually seeing the opposite in my circle. I've got a couple that I thought were solid Trump voters that are legitimately wavering. They'll still vote Trump, I think. But I think that momentum might be the other way. I told a suburban mom/wife who is very close to me "you know the good thing about voting is you can tell everyone you voted for whoever you want to tell them you voted for" and she stopped for about 10 seconds and said "yeah, that's true".

I'm starting to think the suburban housewife might be the 2020 yin to the 2016 trailer trash yang and that there might be more of a silent Biden vote than the opposite. I know others here smarter than me have already speculated on that, but I'm starting to come around to it based on some recent anecdotal and real-life experiences. Also I'm pretty buzzed and I tend to get optimistic when I'm buzzed.

That seems like his go to move. Fail, blame others, fire them, hire new even stupider people, create a veil of immediate success, repeat once the veil wears off.

So today I drove to my cousin in laws house in Lakewood (Dallas) -- she asked if I had a spare Biden sign and I told her I would bring one.  I park a couple of houses down across the street (their house overlooks the lake and you have to walk down an alley to get there).  In any case, when I come out, there is a lady standing there taking my picture with her I phone, and I look at her funny and walk to my car, which sports a Biden bumper sticker.

She starts laughing, and tells me someone has been stealing signs in the neighborhood, and she had about 10 pictures of me walking with the sign.  She was waiting to see what car I got into so she could take pictures of my license plate.  "Do I look Trumpy?" I say and then she laughs again and says "Yay Biden".

I can't wait til this shit is over.  Covid too but mostly this election cycle.

A cousin in law is like a neighbor or friend right?  It's not a real thing I guess.

I know exactly 1 person who would give a single fuck if fracking was eliminated tomorrow in PA. He has a gas well on his property and he’s already a huge trumper.

I don’t think the fracking play is as effective as they think it is. There are a small number of people that it matters to who are already trumpers in areas that trump is going to win by 40-50-60 points.

Theres an add that’s been running it western PA since June or July and it’s supposed to be some rural yinzer that used to be a Democrat that claims joe Biden is going to eliminate over 600,000 jobs and everyone this guy knows will he out of work.

Bureau of labor statistics counts a little over 600,000 fracking jobs nationwide and 26,000 in PA.

I always find the fracking thing hilarious/sad.  I work on energy and climate policy and I was in western PA offices about 8-9 years ago when fraxking  was taking off in the Marcellus shale.  The staffer I spoke to kept waxing poetic about how that area was about to become the next South Dakota boom (back when that was a thing).  HIRING EVERYWHERE! Locals with 6 figure O&G Jobs! Mayors are getting ready for a huge surge in retail and housing!

i tried to gently help him understand that veteran drilling teams are tightly knit crews, mostly out of the Permian, and they rarely hire local. They drill, cap/connect, and move on.  South Dakota was different because of oil.  He just blew right past me.

I still think about that dude and how little either side really understands about fracking and also the federal role in it.  If Trump wanted to be effective with a fracking argument, Colorado would have made much more sense.

Another anecdote, but I’ll take it.

I’ve mentioned it before, but my loyal GOP parents voted for Trump in 2016. They’re both voting Biden this year and are openly badmouthing Trump to their idiot family and friends. Not sure they’ve made any converts, but at least they’re locked in and evangelizing for the good guys.

There have been similar about-faces in my in-laws’ circle of friends, too.

Is PA still experiencing fracking effects?  I know they were for a while.

Five? years ago, we were getting earthquakes in D-FW, but the culprit appears to have been an injection well in the vicinity and not fracking per se.  I don't recall if the RRC changed regs or operators just quit using that well, but we haven't had a quake since.

Those quakes were pretty alarming, as would be groundwater stuff (methane Topo Chico from the tap would be no bueno).  But it has been a non-issue around here for quite some time.

I think it’s more than anecdotal. I know several Trump voters, Gary Johnson voters (yeah yeah), and abstainers who are vocal Biden supporters. Most have already voted. I do not know a single Hillary voter or abstainer who is supporting trump.

Abbott would not have gotten rid of straight ticket ballots unless he is afraid of a total slaughter of his party due to having Trump at the top

The answer, as with all things, is it depends.  Sounds like it has to do with the depth of fracking:

A 76 year old friend of ours, lifelong R, who voted for Trump in 2016 told us he voted yesterday for Biden. He's very well off, retired SVP at Citi with properties in TX and CO. His father was a high ranking member of the CIA during the height of the Cold War and the straw that broke the camel's back was Trump's continuous attacks on the US intelligence community and the damage Trump Co has done to our long standing international alliances.

He shared this with 3 of us over beers yesterday. Two of us have already voted for Biden, the 3rd is another 'GOP from the womb' type. The other GOP friend was stunned by this revelation. He started to bust his balls a little, calling him a "RINO", etc. 76 year old's response was classic. He said "it was the easiest vote I ever cast." I think our other friend--who hasn't voted yet--is having to rethink his options.

He's not arresting anyone. If his justice department tried that stunt it would backfire so hard that should he get re-elected it would result in impeachment charges being brought forth for Trump and Congressional hearings for Barr leading to his removal.

This is why it never hurts to share your vote with some people that can emotionally handle it. Many gop voters just assume everyone in their social circle vote gop. Letting them know that they’re wrong about that might convince a handful to change.

I would never recommend getting into a big political discussion with most people as they cannot emotionally handle political discussions. And definitely don’t try to convince someone that doesn’t want to be convinced. It goes no where.

Definitely all of this. And for the record, I've never told my friends who I'm voting for. The Biden/Harris sign in our front yard says it all for us. And friends seem to know where I lean on most issues.

To add something to the hope jar, my dad, who is an Old Army Aggie, flipped his vote to Biden. Trump slowly lost him over time, but the only specific example that he gave to me was the downplaying of the virus, being given medicine not available to the general public, exposing others for his mini-parade, and then continuing to downplay it after. My dad hasn't been infected with COVID, but his personal and professional life has been affected enough to where he knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that it's real and serious. I also know of two other Trump voters who flipped to Biden for 2020. The only Trump voters left in my family are the evangelicals and they are single issue voters.

My mom is a hardcore catholic and is a single issue voter on abortion. She does the picket line protests at abortion clinics, she’s that level of serious about abortion. She’s still pulling the lever for Biden this election. That’s how toxic Trump is. My wife is also voting for the first time this election. She completely ignore politics, but he has made her angry enough to go vote against him. I know the EC math always gives him a chance, but I think he’s in for a historic drubbing in the popular vote.

I am a little disappointed Biden’s campaign didn’t work harder for the Catholic vote.  Biden is a Catholic, Trump is a piece of shit; that is enough to swing a lot of them, but I feel like actively courting the Catholics would have made a difference.  I do know some Catholics that are voting for Biden, but most others are single issue and abortion is all they think about.

Pretty much throwing down the David Sedaris line for anyone who says something as stupid as that.

To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

I appreciate all these stories about Trump voters switching, but there’s nothing we learned in the last four years that we didn’t already know in 2016.

While true, we still gotta embrace these people with open arms.

One reason our post-Trump presidency world is still so fucked is it will be almost impossible to reconcile with hardcore Trumpers. Forgiveness and empathy will be needed if they ever wake up, and understandably most people won't have the discipline (or desire, frankly) to make peace with them.

This is not true. Trump was a candidate not incumbent. He hadn’t completely mishandled a global pandemic resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. And he was running against the only candidate whose unfavorables matched his.

Keep up the negativity though in case the reverse jinx is a real thing

He said that in 2008, right?  About John McCain- former and future GOP idol of the left, correct?  Yet when he was running for president he was the worst ever, blah blah blah in the most important election ever, blah blah blah.
Since we hear that every 4 years and some people have a memory longer than the lifespan of a mayfly it’s why the disconnect exists for large swaths of America.

If someone expresses doubt or confusion about who to vote for, they are really saying “I don’t like where we are headed with Trump, but I don’t know about Biden, he could be worse.”

Thats a great opportunity to help them compare and contrast the state of their world under Obama/Biden vs Trump/Pence.  When someone who is on the fence does that, they invariably come to a conclusion that they would be an idiot to vote for the status quo.

That they are on the fence automatically excludes them from being a die hard, no hope Trumpkin.

I agree with this. Democrats have been their own enemy by constantly calling every GOP candidate "the worst ever." You cry wolf too often and people stop listening to you. That is partly what happened with Trump. As a former more GOP aligned independent, the constant maligning of every GOP candidate as either stupid or evil, even if objectively the candidate was centrist or of above average intelligence, definitely contributed to my distaste for the Democratic party.

Don't get me wrong, the GOP has done the same thing, taking it to 11 with Obama (and since).

Talked to one yesterday.  He’s a good, blue collar guy in a rural red county.  Everyone here is subjected to a huge nudge towards Trump culturally.  You can’t be plugged into the community without being bombarded with pro-Trump/anti-Biden propaganda.  He brought up that he was trying to figure out who to vote for.

He’s concerned about Biden and guns even though he’s just a meat hunter and not a gun nut.  After talking a bit about his life 2008-20016 and 2016-2020, he’s come to the conclusion he needs to vote Biden.

Wait, you guys think Biden is the best person in America eligible for office of the President? They could have run literally anyone. Biden is not a good candidate. His policies are meh at best. He would never get anything done without full house and senate support because his policy is so wildly unclear and broad. It's also nothing new.

Pandemic? So Joe Biden actually wants to be President during the pandemic instead of pretending it doesn't exist and you want me to say he has the best fucking plan for it? He can barely fucking articulate what he wants to happen if he takes over and just says shit like "we will let the scientists guide us". Come up with real policy change that will allow for contact tracing, aggressively attack the virus and eliminate it then have a sustaining plan afterwards. Just because he wants to do something and that's better than nothing doesn't mean it's a God tier plan of attack.

Foreign policy under Biden is going to be an apology world tour and regaining trust instead of a strong stance on some of the things and a chance to reboot our status quo with the world. Joe Biden is the candidate of "the same shit before Trump" which need flash, wasn't all that fucking great for a lot of people.

Economy? Oh so now instead of massive deregulation and allowance to do whatever you want he's going to fucking put back restrictions and then raise the Corp tax rate to what it was during Bush? Like what the fuck you think that's going to change anything? How about trust busting, a commitment to change America from a conglomerate focused innovation stifling culture back into the small and medium sized business machine.

What about Healthcare? Seems pretty happy with ACA. Which is obviously fucked and a piece of garbage that had some good parts. Doesn't want MCA doesn't believe in forcing out corporate interests from public health.

What about Police? Shoot people in the leg instead of kill them? Ban chokeholds? Decriminalize MJ? Like come the fuck on its 2020 the federal gov can't mandate local police to do things. How about a complete reform of federal prosecutors and ending the entire war on drugs eliminating the DEA and ICE.

He's not at all progressive, he's regressive as fuck and his policy stances are uninteresting and "safe" to the point they are dangerous.

He's a good dude. He means well. Substantially less Americans will die in the next 18-24 months and stability will come much sooner under his watch than Trump, but God damnit it's just going to be the same syndicated bullshit. He's a 76 year old lifetime politician with stale ideas and entrenched process. Obama was a great fucking guy, super motivating, but his presidency was super fucking meh in MANY people's opinions. Until someone is in office that is the antithesis of trump who will reject the notion that America is run by those who now possess over 10T in wealth it's going to be more of the same for the sheeple of the USA
