Everyone seems very confident about NV, but I'm not sure I see it yet. It's only an 11k lead in a state that Hilldawg won by 2 points. Is it just the assumption that mail-in votes are going to be majority D?

yes.  and they've proved so far to be able to really nail those sorts of partisan splits.  but who knows for sure.

That is a common, categorically incorrect myth about living wage. It's just about the easiest one in the world to debunk, too. I don't know where you people get this shit.

Living wage - a wage that is high enough to maintain a normal standard of living.

Minimum wage - the lowest wage permitted by law or by a special agreement (such as one with a labor union).

Trump GAINED over 1.1 million votes in Texas?? Good lord that's depressing.

Yeah and when the GOP runs out someone not quite so awful were are right back to a solid blue state again.  Half of the votes Joe picked up were "anyone but Trump'ers" and we can't count on them next time.  I've been voting Dem here my whole adult life and will continue to but I'm not buying any bullshit about being a purple state any more than I buy the football board's assessment of our upcoming season every summer.  I'll believe it when it happens.

Rural Texas and old people vote and they vote a shit-ton.  They don't take part in polls and they don't post about it on social media.   We acted like they wouldn't be there in 2018 and we acted like it again in 2020.

@Brisket,  I don't see anything reasonable about Trump's approach should he stay.   That is expecting a miraculous change.  I would never expect it.

as far as Dems reaching across the aisle, hell we can't even get past crazy ass minimum wage and guaranteed income for everyone on the other thread about appealing to non-dems..  Dems have been kicked around, and I don't expect some conciliatory session until 2022.   It just is not going to happen.

To be fair, I do not see an obligation to so, either. 10 of us from across the spectrum on this board could get a shit ton more accomplished with policy than what this Congress will do.

Not a terrible post.  Except I do see Dem ideas having broad support.  Hell, look at a post somewhere around here that was screenshots of Fox (FOX!) issue polls, like support for some sort of universal healthcare option, believing that we should better address climate change, etc.  All ideas that one would align with the Dems, and all getting 60%+ approval.

I don't think the Congressional Dems should be conciliatory with Congressional Repubs....but as far as political philosophies and ideas, yeah, there's room to reach across and build something closer to consensus.

another thread, but minimum wage isn't meant to be a "living wage."  Never has been.

Want more, do more.

And, yeah, another thread, but.....the good "want more, do more" jobs -- auto worker, etc. -- are disappearing, and ain't coming back.  We are becoming a society of high-earning service sectors jobs, and low-earning manual labor and service industry jobs, with the middle disappearing.  We have to address that.  Not doing so is destroying us.

I haven't watched any political coverage since Monday.   This sounds fun though...

Those shows are just a fucking beating though.

Well, we got to see the process in Atlanta and Phoenix. Somebody opens them with a machine. Somebody else takes the ballot out and reviews each side a couple of times looking for irregularities. Then they stack the ballots. They go to someone else. There's like five steps and everything has to match up. It's a tedious process.

If cooperation between the two parties doesn't happen, we're truly fucked. Climate change, COVID... if it's not clear by now that the status quo won't sustain itself, I don't know that there's any hope for this country.

If the Dems were smart, they'd take a big Republican issue like repealing ACA, and offer to work with Republicans on an ACA revamp, agreeing beforehand that both parties could take credit for. Biden could even get Obama's blessing to call it a "repeal and replace" as an olive branch.

Republicans would then be in a position to either publicly reject an offer to make good on their own platform, or they'd be forced to come back to the table and start actually hammering out policy again.

A much easier win would be legislation that would require cigarette pack style warning labels on news entertainment like Maddow or Hannity: "this is news entertainment, and as such, the opinions presented are not subject to the same journalistic standards as our news broadcasting." Revoke WH access to Fox or MSNBC if they don't comply.

I am a lefty idealist, but we need pragmatism to start happening yesterday. Conservatives used to be those pragmatists, but they're now idealists, too, and the two ideals have turned everything into a shitty zero sum game. If we can make more incremental legislation actually HAPPEN, we can get the government moving forward at a pace and direction that a MAJORITY is comfortable with. It's either that or we remain stalled out, and continue drifting into authoritarianism.

Amazingly, this is basically accurate.  I know several women (no pics) who were not happy about Biden winning the Dem nom because of his history of being "handsy" and engaging in creepy hugs.  More than one of these ladies made statements indicating they were thinking of voting for Trump.  It blew my mind.

One of them called Biden misogynistic.  I told her, "Do you really think Mr. GrabEmByThePussy is any less misogynistic?"

"Well, no . . ."

"Then why the fuck would you ever consider voting for him if that's your main criterion for a presidential candidate?!?"

[*crickets*]

Bullshit. They were voting for Trump anyway. They simply were looking to articulate a reason why they would "have" to vote for Trump.

dem ideas do well.  dems don't.  florida just passed a statewide $15/hr minimum wage 2 years after re-franchising felons, while also voting to re-elect trump and electing rick scott over bill nelson.

Judging by how long it take the machine to generate my ballot, I’m guessing they are using computers from the 90’s.

This election was a repudiation of Trump.  Not of a massive shift to socialist ideals.  The more radical the agenda, the more divided we become.

This.  I voted mainly for Biden, and I like him well enough, because he isn't Trump.  I'm also glad he picked a female as a VP running mate as I believe the time has come for a woman to be President.

But someone has to do that job. That person shouldn’t be able to make a living wage?

If the work one does doesn't provide the requisite  revenue to the business, no.  Minimum wage jobs are entry level/ part time roles.  How many grown ass adults do you know who only make minimum wage, and it's not because that's what they have settled for?  Hell my kids made more than minimum wage in high school.  They are very exceptional though...

You're way too naïve if you think Republicans are going to do anything you listed. They will obstruct, be the party of no, and blame Democrats for everything.

I'm not naïve at all. I'm on the fucking ledge, dude.

I'm saying that, barring a fairly unlikely comeback to get a 50/50 senate split, the only strategy the Democrats actually have right now involves getting actual legislation through the Senate. The only way to do that is to offer the Republicans things that they claim they want.

No way the Republicans agree to work together with the Democrats on anything. Hence the ledge.

This is actually a really good point.

Dems are like the reliable, good guy who drives a sensible car.  He's good looking enough.  And man, he's got a nice house, and a good job, and a plan for family life that will leave them secure and happy.

Repubs are the arrogant ass with a sneer, driving a fancy car that daddy bought, and living large when they go out to dinner (bought on credit).  He's not really nice to her, he's even abusive, but he has swagger and bravado, and talks about all the asses he's kicked (he's never been in a fight in his life) and how he parties in Aruba all the time (he's been once, on a college trip).  Jane knows he's a shitty choice.....but she still hooks up with him at the end of the night.  Because Vette, not Camry.

Dems are shitty marketers.  They need to learn to bullshit and lie better so they can compete.

Just say what you really mean.  Like, the minimum wage should be a living wage.

If someone wants to point to a historical point in time where the minimum wage was a living wage, then great, educate us.

slorch is correct on what the minimum wage has been for the last at least 60 years.

dems: vote for us and we'll make healthcare better!  [even though you don't know how shitty healthcare is because you haven't had a terrible experience and you don't know how much it costs because it's hidden from you]

repubs: ANTIFA IS GOING TO MARCH THROUGH SHADOW COVE ESTATES AND BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE!

These idiots really don’t understand they have to have some sort of case to take to the Supreme Court that seems reasonable enough to enough observers for the Supreme Court to be willing to side with them in an enormously controversial decision. And at a minimum they’ve got three judges who would gladly do so if they could figure out any pretense, but they can’t even do that.

It’s truly incredible how unprepared this gang of slapdicks was to actually carry out their plan to steal the election.

Buttigieg offers an even better alternative. He's the nerd that can straight up beat a jock down by destroying his argument, then steal his sports car... and of course turn down his wife's offer 😉

Won't matter when Biden wins Nevada, and Georgia, and Arizona, and Pennsylvania.

Not that Lou can ask a good question, or would. But what is she expecting the Supreme Court to do? They're not empowered to just start issuing rulings from the bench for non-existent cases.
