That’s the least controversial claim made in the entire article. Trump is not some aspiring dictator, and isn’t even invested in using the power he currently holds by taking an active hand in running his own administration.  The things his administration have done that are anti-democratic are things that any Republican administration would do as his admin is filled with the same people as would occupy any generic Republican administration.

this statement, by ANY objective, historical standard, is absolutely bonkers.

if you're not a troll, you are insane.

mathematically speaking if only one person voted in california, texas, floriduh, new york, illinois, pennsylvania, ohio, meatchicken, georgia, north carolina, and new jersey, and they all voted the same way, and everyone else in the country did vote, and they all voted the same way, the winner of the electoral college would lose the popular vote 11 to shit tons.

yes.  this is exactly what i'm talking about.  thanks for clarifying.

How many would be willing to bet that Joe Biden will not be the President next year if Trump loses the electoral college?  Loser is IP banned.

Don't know. Don't care.

I, for one, am voting for a Biden/Harris ticket.

'President Harris' has a nice ring to it, but more importantly, 'one term President Trump' has a better ring.

thanks for the mostly depressing link.

It took PA a week to count the 1.4 million mail in ballots for the primaries in June.

And for anyone that didn’t look at the link up thread, they can’t even open the ballots to start processing them until Election Day. PA likely won’t be able to be called for at least a week after the election.

What's your experience been so far texting/calling?

Phone banking is fun when you're doing it with a friend or two. But 60-65% of the time, no one answers the phone. From the remaining 40% I'd say 60% were already registered, 20% needed some direction, 20% had no interest in voting. This is from phone banking I've done specifically targeting black voters in the last few months. It was much more nasty when I did the same for Warren earlier this year. I was taking shit from other Democrats. It's a hoot talking to these old white ladies and white men sometimes.

Well unless those who turn out at the polls have Biden as the winner.

Well, it's A- rated by 538 and is considered to be one of the best pollsters out there.

Of course this particular poll might be an outlier.

Emerson changed their methodology in 2019 and now their surveys are based on 50% automated calls to landlines, 50% online surveys using Amazon's MTurk service, which pays users a pittance to respond to surveys, translate articles, add tags to images on websites....etc. The quicker you finish, the more you get paid.

Nate Cohn repeatedly shits on any poll that uses MTurk and I know Elliot Morris refuses to use any MTurk-based polls in his model.

I mean, look at the crosstabs in this poll and tell me how they add up to something that makes sense:

Biden only pulling 77% of the black vote to Trump's 19%, while Biden only gets 79% of Dems with 18% voting for Trump. Those would be a 250% improvement for Trump over 2016.

Biden +21 in suburban areas but -1 in cities.

Biden ahead in the South and Midwest but a dead heat in the Northeast.

Fixed for accuracy.

impeachment - why is the word "impeached" not uttered every time Trump is said out loud by Dems?

IF the GOP can hammer "Barack Hussein Obama", as nauseum, the Dems should be saying "Donald Impeached Trump" or "President Impeached" at every opportunity.

Complete gaslighting. When Biden makes a point that can’t  be disputed, they’re going to turn it on him that he said something else. The past few years have taught us that repeating a lie enough makes it “true” for many. And if you get enough conservative voices to quickly repeat that lie, it will temper what Biden says.

I imagine there is a whats app or similar messaging platform conversation for many of these known personalities to quickly align together. And a second conversation for personalities that pretend to be libertarian but potentially are financed by the right.

biden says: "Rioting is not protesting. Looting is not protesting. Setting fires is not protesting. None of this is protesting. It's lawlessness, plain and simple. And those who do it should be prosecuted."

trump's press guy lies and says: "As predicted, Joe Biden today failed to condemn the left-wing mobs burning, looting, and terrorizing American cities."

we're planning on filling out our mail-in ballot but dropping it in person at a polling place, likely before election day.

does that count as vote-by-mail?

also, since mail-in ballots can start to be mailed fairly soon, wouldn't they start counting those ballots once they're received?  i know trump wants us to believe it'll take months or years to count all these ballots, but it's not like they're gonna start counting them at 9pm election night.

If youre in Texas and you need to drop off a mail in ballot, you need to go to the County Clerk's office, not a polling place.

https://www.texastribune.org/2020/08/21/vote-by-mail-texas/

Texans voting absentee can also deliver their completed ballots in person at their county elections office instead of mailing them in. That’s typically only allowed while polls are open on Election Day, but the state has expanded that option during the pandemic to allow voters to return their ballots in person as soon as they’re completed. Those voters will need to present photo ID when dropping off their ballots.

This is what me and the wife plan on doing. No way we're leaving this to chance.

I saw some euro poll with similar results to the one that you are picking at here the other day and just laughed.
Yeah- good stuff you are pointing out.

I think any municipality of size has learned from some of the delays in the primaries and are responding accordingly. Especially if the local govt is controlled by Dems.  Story from 2 days ago that a county outside Philly has added more capacity and other solutions to hopefully prevent delays.

Story also states that local officials and the governor are asking the legislature to allow votes to start being counted early. The GOP House sounds open to ideas. FYI, Florida counties can start their process (mail in count) up to 22 days before Election day.

Too scared of hatred.

I doubt Joe wrote that himself, but that is an incredibly powerful phrase that will, of course, be lost on nearly every Trump supporter I know.

Think about that.  Too scared of hate.  Fucking brilliant.

Re:  Too weak to lead, a strongman without strength, etc.:

The best attacks are the uncomfortably true ones that take away a supposed strength.   This is essentially an extension of “Bunker bitch” which I think really was the thing that resonated most with people to erode his support for a little while.  Everyone already knows Trump is a liar, doesn’t follow the law, is cruel, etc.   That’s baked in, even with his supporters.

Where there is still debate is that the people who like him see him as strong for some ridiculous reason.  He’s their champion taking it to the libs (these won’t vote for Biden, but maybe they can be demoralized to stay home), or he’s their salty sailor who they don’t really like but feel like he’s necessary to protect them from the scary rioters, illegals, socialists, or whatever (these might be more malleable to a flip).

You have to throw it in these people’s faces over and over that Trump is a cowardly bitch who isn’t really going fight for them and isn’t going to protect them from shit.  He’s not in charge.  He doesn’t have this under control.  He’s not their strongman, even if that is all they want.

He can placate enough people by putting down the “others” they don’t like, or just by feeding everyone bullshit about things they don’t understand or that they want to believe.  That covers ... well, just about every subject now, because we’re a tragically ignorant country with no appetite for taking the time to actually understand anything more complex than memes or 10 second clips.   But in that arrested adolescence, we perhaps respond to the schoolyard tactics even more markedly than ever (hence, Trump’s ascension).

Sometimes reasoning isn’t going to get you anywhere, and you just have to punch the bully in the nose and reveal him to be the simpering pussy he is.

We are a tragically ignorant country by design.

Black v white has turned into red v blue, because black v White is no longer socially acceptable to say, even though it still exists.
Punching the others in the nose is what they want. Won’t do any good.

The only real hope is to vote democratic because its the only party left that has any power that hasn’t completely capitulated to ignorance like the republicans have to all of that. They are completely and totally gone.

As we all know 2020 is kind of an important election for this country. Get everyone you know to vote and vote early.

Looks like the Trump campaign is pulling advertising to conserve money....

Hope AP news is an acceptable source for y’all.

https://apnews.com/8738cac48d9b4c3f3b733c7bc0c7ff3b

they claim they will be doing more ads next week. But as the article points out it’s incredibly odd to pull ads within days of the convention. It’s also odd the states they are targeting. States he won handily. None of the above information means people should get complacent. I just thought the article was interesting.
