For shits and grins I took a closer look at the 4-8 spots in the West and where the teams might end up.

Spurs - Currently 44-32 - Remaining games Houston, at LAC, at LAL, Portland, SAC, at NOLA.  I could see the Spurs go 1-5...or 5-1.  So I'll say they go 3-3 the rest of the way and up 47-35.

Wolves - 44-33 - Utah, at Denver, at LAL, Memphis, Denver.  Will also finish 47-35.

OKC - 44-33 - at NOLA, GS, at Houston, at Miami, Memphis.  46-36.

Utah - 43-33 - at Wolves, LAL, LAC, at LAL, GS, at Portland.  I'll be generous and give them 4 wins, putting them at 47-35.

NOLA - 43-33 - OKC, Memphis, at PHX, at GS, at LAC, Spurs.  47-35 as well.

LAC - 41-35 - Indiana, Spurs, at Utah, Denver, NOLA, LAL.  Can't see more than 4 wins here.  45-37 and out of the playoffs.

Denver - 41-35 - Milwaukee, Indiana, Minnesota, at LAC, Portland, at Minnesota.  Just like with LAC, 5-1 is possible, but not likely,  45-37 as well.

This would put OKC in the 8 spot at 46-36 and (assuming conference record is the tiebreaker - I think it is but not 100% sure) 4-7 would go  (4) Minnesota, (5) Utah, (6) SAS, (7) NOLA.

In the East, it's a little crazy but Philly might end the season on a 16 game winning streak (they're currently at 9), even without Embiid.  Their schedule the rest of the way: at Charlotte, BKN, at Detroit, Cleveland (this game will probably determine the 3 seed), Dallas, at ATL, Milwaukee.

Just a huge win for OKC at NOLA tonight.

big night in the association tonight:

raptors @ cavs

wizards @ rockets

celtics @ bucks

warriors @ thunder (tnt)

pacers @ nuggets (pacers still alive for the #3 spot in the east, denver can probably only afford 1 more loss if they want to make the playoffs)

spurs @ clippers (tnt)

Nuggets are going to hold on against the Pacers, giving the 3 seed to the Cavs-76ers winner this week and putting Denver just 1 back in the loss column to NOLA, OKC, and Minnesota.

Missing the playoffs for any of those 3 teams would be borderline catastrophic, given the expectations heading into this season.

i dunno.  they finish @ houston, @ san antonio, @ denver and vs. utah.  that is not easy.  if the spurs win tonight, they'd only be 2 back.

They're still in the driver's seat as the Spurs have a very difficult end to their season as well..... but.....

Quote

Damian Lillard hit 6-of-20 shots, 2-of-10 3-pointers and 15-of-15 free throws for 29 points, five rebounds, eight assists, two steals and a block, but suffered a potentially severely sprained left ankle in Tuesday's ugly 115-109 loss to the Mavericks.

As if losing to the Mavericks during a playoff battle isn't bad enough, Lillard, who never left the game, had to be carted from the locker room to the team bus after the game. "I think I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I’m going to be smart about it," he said after the game. "It’s the end of the season, we’re going into playoffs so I have to be smart that one thing doesn’t turn into another." The Blazers could potentially get caught by the Spurs, but are still the No. 3 seed with a 2.5 game lead as we type this. But with the Blazers in the playoffs either way, Lillard could end up resting his ankle for the rest of the regular season

LeBron once again needs to shut the fuck up and stop creating so much drama. Now he has legitimate beef with Nick Saban? He’s gonna be damned if Nick Saban steals his intellectual property? Oh my God. The guy is an absolute beating sometimes. Never in the history of truly all-world talents (Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, Pelé, MJ, etc) has someone been such a bitchass, sanctimonious, whiner. He takes a W when he fights back on the “Shut up and dribble” comments, but he takes a huge L every time he makes the same sized stink about something so stupid, trivial, and where he is clearly in the wrong. Taking on Nick Saban. GTFO.

Shocked I tell ya. Spurs had a 11 point lead going into the final frame where they give up 41 and lose by 3. There goes their streak of 50+ win seasons.

Perhaps appropriate that the chance to get to 50 wins was thrown away in the same manner as a number of other games against mediocre teams this year: after taking a sizable lead into the final minutes. Once again LMA gets cut out of the offense after having dominated all night, with the expected results. That said, the LAC guards shot really well late.

That is why Lebron is the biggest douche in sports. Besides the fact that Saban's show is concerning a completely different sport, Lebron has no copyright of the term "shop" or "barbershop", and therefore he has no leg to stand on. So stupid. Bron gonna Bron

Biggest douche? Until he makes fake twitter accounts to defend his honor, he doesn't even come close.

Yes he is a bigger douche than Durant. The fake twitter account was stupid but doesn't even come close to the entire body of work Lebron has compiled. This 'shop talk' beef with Saban is ridiculously trivial and petty, besides not being in violation of any copyright. Lebron thinks he is some kind of legal expert now.....lulz

I want Doris Burke to replace those bozos Jackson and Van Gundy as the analysts on ESPN's A-team. Mike Breen and Burke do very well together as a commentator duo.

With all due respect, Doris Burke never does well with anything. Van Gundy is awesome. And he's great at poking fun at that bozo Jackson.

damn the western conference playoff race is crazy as hell.  1 team with 33 losses, 4 teams with 34 losses, 1 with 35 and 1 with 36.  pretty cool because every night there are a game or two featuring these teams going at each other.  tomorrow night we have clippers @ jazz (clippers probably can't afford to lose again) and wolves @ nuggets.

yeah, that still doesn't make "the process" any less embarrassing.

How's it embarrassing? Being stuck in 13-22 purgatory is the absolute worst scenario to be in?

Fans understand it just like gms. But we don't lose our job if we're paid to tank. The chances of landing a transition talent or signing a marquee free agent if you're in that range are slim.

purposely losing for YEARS is not embarrassing?

More importantly, how often has tanking actually worked?  are we counting the Sixers as "working" already?

Was Seattle/OKC tanking when they got 3 picks in the top 5? That seemed to work out for them.

Philly is definitely better off than they would have been without tanking.

Different sport, but the Astros got their first championship after tanking for 5 years. It's a legitimate strategy, even if it's embarrassing and shady.

PHI LOOKS like they will be good but there are still a lot of ifs.   Right now, was a 4th seed worth 5 yrs of record breaking shitiness?

I don't think SEA/OKC was tanking.   They were bad but were only really down a couple yrs.

The only time I would say it worked was the half a season SA did it to get Duncan and again that was a half of a season.
