Has it been reported that a lot of restaurants in the state haven't been following the guidelines? Every place I've been to here in Dallas has taken them very seriously.

is anecdotal evidence good enough? did takeout from Pluckers last night and although they were checking people's temps before they went in, there were few if any non-employees wearing masks once inside. so yeah, it's a problem, and bars have every right to bitch. if they have outdoor seating and can accommodate not letting people inside (save maybe to pee) then I see no reason they should not be allowed to be open.

Depends on the location but far more I've seen haven't been than have. Especially when it was 25 Percent

The order is hamfisted. The problem is bars where people are standing around mingling close together. If a bar limits capacity and makes everyone sit at spaced out tables I'm not sure why it should be treated differently than a restaurant.

Who is going to monitor all those bars to see that they are in compliance?

A/C circulates the virus so it may be that there isn’t really a safe distance indoors. You’re right that it doesn’t make any sense to treat bars and restaurants differently, though.

The Chinese did a case study on a restaurant where a bunch of people got infected.  It wasn't limited to tables nearby to the infected person.  It ended up covering the whole place.  You don't want to be in indoor situations where you are potentially breathing the same air as an infected person for an hour or 2.

And on top of that, it doesn't matter if you have food, if you top the magic number, you are shut down, even if the place next to you is .1% below the magic number and they get to stay open.  That's dumb.

So what are we to make of the case numbers coming out in the counties that are really spiking? Do we think they're going to be artificially low due to the sudden demand (and lack of supply) for testing?

I think the hospitalization numbers will still be a good barometer, because as far as I know everyone going into a hospital gets Covid tested.

Do masks indoors make a large difference re: AC circulation of the virus?

If everyone inside is wearing one? Yes. It keeps the virus from spreading out into the air anywhere near as easily.

If you're the only one wearing one? Then it needs to be a very tight fitting mask with good to great filtration properties to .2 microns I believe

Bell county hit triple digits for new cases in one day for the first time, 128 new cases on Tuesday.  Highest prior to that was 84, set last week, the two weeks prior to that both peaked around 40.  Looks like we are getting exponential growth.  Its a good thing Bell county commissioners changed the judges order making masks mandatory on Monday, would hate to see people's feelings getting hurt.

Quote

Blackburn issued the order June 24. He said the largest private health care provider in the county advised him they had the largest number of COVID-19 patients since the pandemic began.

"Baylor Scott and White expressed concern about hospital capacity in Bell County," said Blackburn. "That is one of the reasons I issued the directive."

Prior to the meeting Blackburn issued a statement reading in part, "Today, the Court modified Directive #8. The modification removed the mandatory provisions in the Directive, as well as the penalty provision in the Directive. In its place, the Court substituted “strongly recommended.” Hence, there is no mandatory provisions in place for any business in Bell County at this time relating to face coverings."

One of my friends from undergrad shared a post from a friend of hers who is an ID specialist. She said the only time the virus gets aerosolized is during medical procedures like intubation or bronchoscopy. When you cough the virus is transmitted in large respiratory droplets. These should be heavy enough to fall quickly to the ground (or table surface). This is why we are seeing limitation in spread even with cloth face coverings. I don’t think air recirculated via AC is a big deal if that is the case

not really, unless they're actually filtered (ie - gasmask)
It's a spectrum. You know that- from bandana to full respirator. Even the bandana reduces viral load in the air.

Cases appear to continue to skew younger and hispanic. Hospital demographics are lagged by a couple weeks, so we'll see.

then you might want to start wearing a mask now, Congressman.  I personally know someone who spends a lot of time out at the bars in Austin.  He probably has Covid-19.  And he  face-fucks your middle-daughter on the reg.   And she visits you and your absolutely horribly fugly wife, so you're probably walking dead.  So mask up and quit raising whores dipshit.  See you on the backside fuckface.

There's been conflicting reports and studies on this. Several have suggested the droplets can travel on an HVAC air stream and infect a high percentage of people down wind contingent on the length of time of exposure. I'm definitely not confident enough in any evidence to the contrary to risk that.

Highlights from today's telecon where we discussed returning to the office, which is 100% not happening for me:
1.  There's so many different opinions about masks.  It's hard to know who to listen to!
Oh, I don't know.... Maybe listen to the fucking doctors instead of Cletus from the MAGA Patriot Hangout on Facebook?
2.  How do I know if I am getting enough oxygen with a mask on?
I don't know. Maybe ask the thousands of healthcare professionals who wear a mask 8+ hours a day without dying or becoming brain damaged?
This state is fucked.
That's MAGA Patriot Freedom Eagle Gun Hangout to you, libcuck.

Well, to their credit, if they’re asking this question it is clearly due to lack of oxygen to the brain.

Consequence of the "it's not what you know it's who you know" promotion criteria at companies all over this country.

Ironically probably not that many get it from beaches so unless you close off all indoor public gatherings too it might make it worse as it funnels more people who would have been at the beach to a restaurant or house party.

It's like the state still knows nothing after 6 months how this virus transmits.
