Paraphrasing a Salon column the other day, the Kevins would rather die as maskless warriors than surrender their control and manhood to some invisible virus that's scaring all the liberals. It's a classic fascist trait:

What kind a fag reads Salon? You some kind of big thinker there, boy? I only read sports and porn and gun stuff. I think we should use the Army to solve all our problems. Christ backs me up on every bit of this, pussy.

It's because we tolerate lying sacks of shit who only care about maintaining power rather than the welfare of the citizens they govern.

Hey, journalists, get off your dead asses and run down this story. It's been a political decision not to test; go find the proof. It's not enough to opine about it. Leave the studio and find someone privy to the process who is uncomfortable with it. Do your fucking jobs.

We're ill served by everyone we should be able to trust. Anybody els smell bananas or am I having a fatal stroke?

Probably just a shart; but, I understand your pain.

I just can't imagine being such a lazy entitled piece of shit that being asked to wear a mask puts you into a rage.

Sure, maybe it's a little annoying, the slightest pain in the ass. But being actually MAD about it is like getting irate because someone tells you to wear socks.

You know what? It probably doesn't do much, but if it does even a little to help, it's literally the least I could do to pitch in.

When you read between the lines, what these people are really saying is that they're so god damn insecure that they can't fathom of venturing out in public looking "weird". Even though many others are doing it. What monumental pussies.

So mask up. Who gives a fuck.

They’re fucking children throwing a tantrum. I venture to texaggy because I want to keep a pulse on the crazies. A familiar answer is they just don’t want to be told what to do. Children. I want to ask them if that kind of answer would have been tolerated by their parents or by themselves with their own children. It’s literally the reason a bratty 10 year old gives when being a a fucking bratty 10 year old.

Masks are a little annoying. But communities set standards. At one time we decided that covering genitals was going to become a normal practice when one is in the community. If you don’t want to do that, great, stay home and be naked. You don’t want to wear a mask? Then stay the fuck home. Fuck. Don’t we all just want to get back to some semblance of normalcy? Oh I have to wear a mask to do that now? Yeah fine I’ll fucking do it.

What they're actually saying is, "I don't want to admit that my side may be wrong." It's still bullshit, but it just isn't coming from a place of physical vanity. I realize I'm splitting hairs here, but I think it shows them to be even more pathetic souls.

Texas passed 1,000 deaths due to #coronavirus today. As the state continues to open up, Dallas County is displaying an especially bad trend: two weeks of steady growth, not decline, in average new daily cases.

Every man jack of them died proudly in the name of freedom the economy!

I have some friends that couldn’t wait to Uber around town last night hitting up restaurants with other folks. All my kids friends are having sleepovers. Restaurant patios around Austin packed. Greenbelt parking backed up to 360. Mission Accomplished, I guess.

There is a thread on a Lakeway Facebook page seeking a list of local businesses Not wearing mask because people have decided mask are more harmful than helpful. And also just to punish those places that are doing what they think is best to protect their customers.

A sacrifice as simple as wearing a mask for an hour inside a store or restaurant is just too much for these fuckheads.

Cases aren't the right metric when testing has doubled

The high numbers are concerning though, looks like around 400/day in the metroplex. That's a lot of new people every day being reported. Many likely were not quarantined yet and thus infected multiple others. And obviously the slope of the line in Dallas and Tarrant is not good

Just got back from Home Depot and it was as if it was a typical Spring Day pre-Covid 19.

Parking lot packed, store was crowded so no social distancing possible, few people (other than me) wearing masks, letting anybody is as they are not counting customers anymore, and even the workers are no longer wearing masks.

This is why there won't be football in Texas in the fall.

Fucking amazing to me. I see 80% masks wearing in Austin and the exact opposite anytime I travel outside this town's limits.

The people that think there'll be college football and bowling and whatever the fuck else we all need right now are the exact fucking reason we won't have that shit.

Texas:  We're police and considerate.  Also, we're not.  But we're native Texans.  So that negates us coughing on people.  Because 'Murica.  Not really 'Murica, but Texas!

You fucking children.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo is not letting Gov. Greg Abbott slide for going on national television and blasting the city for how it is enforcing emergency orders during the pandemic.

On Friday, Acevedo slammed Abbott for being “hypocritical” in issuing executive orders calling for up to 180 days in jail for those who violated his orders, then going on television to deride local governments that enforced them.

What does that really accomplish though? They leave class and head to bars or restaurants or parties. I guess it protects the professors but the students will still be spreading it like crazy.

We are at the point now where the official government policy, as well as the social policy of about 75% of Texans, is “If Covid-19 is inevitable, might as well lie back and enjoy it.”

We gave Claytie the win in the long game, in the most aggy way we possibly could.

Yep.  People are not giving any fucks.  I was out a few days ago with a mask and gloves on and people were looking at me like I was a leper.

A country of morons.

One country of morons and another country of desperate immigrants. A friend of mine wrote this for his paper, the Seabreeze News out of San Leon, in January of last year.

Yes, it's a small-town paper that runs made-up stories -- they trust their readers to know what's fake and what's real. The made-up stories are plainly intended as jokes.

Yes, the dude who wrote this goes solely by "Gator." I know this Gator fellow pretty well, and he is a real journalist with actual newsroom experience, the ability to report stories, and a zeal to tell the truth, come what may. Gator is not anti-immigrant per se, and for damn sure not a racist. A source gave him this tip, he looked into it, found out these facts, and ran the story.

He told me Carnival was pissed. They wrote him a nasty letter calling him all kinds of names, but not disputing the facts in this story even a little bit.

So...by Gator's reckoning, a large portion of Carnival's cruise passengers, out of Galveston at least, are taking part in an ingenious immigration scam.

someone needs to gov dumbass, what's the cut off number for shutting things down again ?
I'm convinced there isn't a number. In fact I'm convinced there isn't any specific metric they've decided to use as THE measuring stick.

You'd think this would be a question the press might ask Abbott. You'd be wrong.

At least I didn't hear it asked.

I asked it earlier in this thread, but nobody heard him say, so I assume Abbott's not sharing it. Which leads me to believe the genie ain't going back in the bottle regardless of what happens.

What's going to bite us all in the ass is when they reopen completely and most everyone except idiot trumpkins aren't going anywhere because we just had a big spike from this reopen. Once they say it's all good and take away all restrictions and people don't trust it because the gop are evil liars there will be nothing they can do.

More Home Depot stories:

I was at the NW San Antonio HD yesterday.  They require masks, and they limit the number of customers inside.  I saw one guy inside who took his mask off, everyone else was wearing one.

Then we went to the Boerne HD, about 18 miles out I-10.  No masks required, but they did limit the number of customers.  I saw about 10 people wearing masks, including employees.  Not 10%, but 10 people.

Agreed.  There is no measuring stick.  We’re not going back to even reasonable or isolated shelter in place or distancing measures.  It’s damn the torpedoes time, full stop.

The only way we’d go back is if the deaths become so many that even hardcore Trump people demand a shutdown out of fear.  That would probably require a far higher mortality rate than we’ve seen with Covid-19.

They may not have publicly declared it yet, but it is pretty clear they - meaning GOP politicians and voters - have already rationalized that they’re done being inconvenienced and tough shit if that means more people have to die.  The fact that they won’t even make an effort to have adequate testing and tracing before reopening, or even consider criteria that might require further shelter in place orders, or consider the type of relief that would actually help normal people survive without a job for a few months, or even wear a fucking mask in public ... well, that tells you what the real priorities are.  And it’s not some bullshit about how sincerely concerned they are that the cure is worse than the disease in general (as opposed to them personally, which they assume they won’t be affected by the disease of course), or that they’re sincerely convinced things are stable now.

I guess they can still pretend it’s a hoax or overblown or whatever makes them feel less callous than just admitting what is really motivating them.

What is motivating Trump is salvaging something of the stock market or economy before the election.  That much is abundantly clear.

The rest of it is a smokescreen that happens to appeal to many of the dolts that support him.  He doesn't give a rat's ass about freedom or safety.

He completely fucked the dog on protecting us from the virus and he knows it.  Now he's trying to create a scenario where he saves the economy.

What's going to be more sickening?

Watching GOP governors line up to give him the credit for "reopening" America while cases spike?

Or...

Watching his supporters believe him when he says he saved the economy AND saved us from the pandemic?

Yeah, this is clearly a play to save the economy in the short term. He just needs to get a few numbers over the summer that show things are on the rise, even if ever so slightly. Then he goes on a tour declaring victory over the worst pandemic the world has ever seen. The jackasses will be crowing about how he saved the day and we would be in the next Great Depression if sleepy joe was in charge.

Of course, people will still be dying while all of this is going on, and maybe at a higher level than now.

If he wanted to do something positive for a number of red state economies he could talk to his buddies in SA and Russia about their little price war. Well, he could if he was their peer rather than their fluffer.

While this thread is Texas specific, I see much of the same where I am. Slowly moving into our new house (I know, horrible timing, could not be helped), so lots of back and forth via car.

I see pretty much business as usual everywhere—full grocery store parking lots, patios everywhere full of people, home improvement store lots packed. On and on. Traffic is near normal levels. The last time I went grocery shopping I was in the 30% wearing a mask. I saw whole families shopping together with kids who were definitely old enough to stay at home.

Just saying, it isn’t just Texas. We are going to see the effects of this behavior one way or the other nationally very soon. And we are going to find out how much our smaller cities can or cannot handle what’s coming.

Rather than declare victory over the pandemic, I think his play is to declare that it was impossible to beat the invisible enemy, which contains a tiny grain of truth.

He will absolutely declare victory over its effects on the economy and ignore the human toll, or point to everyone else's failure (see above).
