Dallas Cowboys 2018 offseason thread

Yeah, looks like a better replacement for Lucky Whitehead.  Lots of sweeps and those sneak out routes.  People didn't think Lucky was any good, but it's obvious this staff used him in really good way, and missed that last year(switzer didn't do the same things). Plus he can return.  Beasley or Switzer are on the chopping block I'd think.

He has a total of 13 catches last year. Speedy but small. We have two of those already in Beasley and Switzer. Not sure what his role will be here.

same role lucky had.  he's going to be handed the ball quite a bit.  he is a bust as a top 10 pick.

It's not a bad use of a 6th rounder.

All depends on how reliable his hands are.  If they find a role for him working underneath and out of the backfield that he does well at, he could be useful.  Lots of ifs, but a 6th round wr isn't going to have his athleticism.

He's not..... Still don't like it.  He's a speciality player and our staff hasn't shown enough creativity to use this type of guy.

I disagree.  for basically 3 mil for one season with his skill set, it's not a high risk move.  And they also showed creativity for guys like Dunbar and Lucky when they were here.  He can do both of their roles.  And if not, it's not a big deal.

Not sure why anyone would hate this for a 6th rounder, especially when we still got 2 of them.

His job will be to run deep posts & go routes and keep teams from stacking 9 men in the box.

$3 million isn't very expensive to keep an extra man from dropping into the box. If he catches a few passes, then that's gravy.

Tavon hasn't caught a deep post since high school.

I think he's probably going to be used more like Dunbar.  Out of the backfield, bubble, tunnel screens, trying to isolate him on a LB.  3 million is too much for that type of player especially since he's shown no physicality but okay (Dunbar was under a million).... Seems like a pet cat move.  The good news is if we cut him in camp, we only lost the pick.

If it takes a CB or a safety away from the line it makes it easier for Zeke. As someone else said, you're not going to find his speed and ability in the 6th round. Good gamble.

So you're saying that he's going to transform into a player that he's never been in the NFL and will suddenly become the deep threat that the Ram's didn't see.

Seems legit.

Perhaps you're already drunk.

I said that he can run deep. He won't catch the ball unless they don't cover him, but they'll have to account for him... which means that there will be more room in the box for Zeke to run. Not sure why you can't fucking understand that simple statement.

Yep.....

He's not going to be a deep threat running posts like some of you are arguing.....

No, they are saying that someone has to cover him. Or are you arguing that he’s so worthless that teams will either ignore him and let him run uncovered downfield or that they can put any schlub on him 1 on 1 without deep help?

Expand

This is ridiculous.

Tavon has never been a deep ball guy. The Cowboys won't use him as a deep ball guy. Defenses won't be concerned about him being a deep ball guy. He is a short dump off guy, but mostly a runner. He has proven virtually useless as a receiver in the NFL. He's not going to magically become something else because he has a star on his helmet, and defenses aren't going to have the fear of God in them that he could burn them deep, because they know it's never going to happen.

On top of all that reality, the Rams were going to cut him. But they found a sucker at the last minute. The Rams couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Please, watch some actual NFL football.

They traded a late 6th rounder for a guy with a certain skillset and only owe him 1 mil if he doesn't' make the team DougO.  This is exactly the type of move you do with a 6th rounder.  really not sure why you're so upset about this.  He's shown he can do some things, particularly what they want him to do.  As long as they're not expecting to line him up wide, then this is a really low risk move..

Heck a 6th rounder might not even make the team.
