My god, Captain Higgins is going to get sloppy seconds from that girl that Rick and TC ran a train on way back when in Lanai.

Supposedly Thomas filmed it and has been blackmailing them ever since for free helicopter rides and free booze. This is why Navy suddenly can't beat Army, the curse o' the lump.

Moment of truth is tomorrow. Final Predictions? I think Kelly loses.

I seriously have no idea. My gut says Kelly wins, but Austin runoffs usually hew towards a more establishment Democrat electorate, which would be a lean to Flanigan’s advantage, except for he’s not really a traditional establishment Democrat on the key issues.

so- I don’t know who wins, but here’s my prediction- whoever wins will win by 10+.

I'm not leaving the house tomorrow after 5:00p, but what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of her election watch party Tuesday.

Statistically speaking, there has to be some silent surly poster who lived in her district who is supporting her who was invited to said event.  Please sir, whomever you are, please create a new account for tomorrow and post here with details of the event.  It's gonna be a scene man, oh---it's a scene.

It's gonna be a small turnout obviously just given the nature of the race.  But it's gonna be close, damn close so it's gonna take awhile to resolve this shit.

But it's just hard to believe that 51+ pages later that this fucking goofy version of a human being could be a council member of a major U.S. city in less than 24 hours.

Polls open in just 8 hours and close in 20 hours.  Just think about that.  How far she's come.  Was 2020 ever going to end in anything else besides a showdown between FitLump & Flannigan?  This may be a royally fucked timeline, but it's our timeline dammit!  What a world...

I've gotten 4 phone calls - a couple Friday, and a couple today, urging me to get out and vote for our school board rep.  To put that in perspective, there's a chance that race will come down to a few hundred votes, if that.

Fitlump got her soundbites out there, and the major media outlets in Austin declined to put her shit (past) on blast, and yeah, I cannot guess whether she will win or not.

I really thought this thread would last half-a-dozen pages at the most, and would just kind of peter out, along with her chances, with maybe a page or two of posts ramping back up in November around the election.

But here we are.  A month later and she's in a runoff she can win.

Fuck you 2020.

For those of you in the know, if she wins, do her appointees to various city boards and commissions have to be approved by the other council members?

Because otherwise, she's dragging in the Alex Jones crowd, along with Romeo Rose.

Yes. But it’s on consent agenda. I can only think of a handful council nominees in the last 20 years that were even pulled off consent. They were

Antonio Buehler to Public Safety Commission (denied for not living in Austin)

Jaime Mendoza to Immigrant Affairs (denied because kukoo)

AND

Mackenzie Kelly to women’s commission (approved 8-0)

I'm thinking she appoints Ricky and Chad Briscoe to her staff, a board or commission.

And does Texas allow same day voter registration - asking for a friend, who could travel to Austin today, if needed

As pointed out above, doesn't matter if you're a commie progressive socialist wannabe or a wing nut, right-winged conservative whack job.   It's still extremism.  And I don't differentiate between how fucked up it is, on either side.    Moderation? Something toward the center?  Practicality?  Sensibility?  Common sense?  I'll sooner see the Easter Bunny than I will these things in Austin city government.

Doesn't matter the outcome tonight, we all lose.

We live in District 10, so personally I'm more interested in Kelly's cuckoo counterpart Virden losing her race with Alter.  I don't know that Virden has anything in her past to rival fitlump's shenanigans, but she might be even more empty upstairs.   The northwest part of Austin needs serious leadership in place with the giant gaping mess that is AISD and the very serious forces working to destroy the only schools that are actually functioning in the district.  To that end, be sure and vote for Caballero for school board if you can.

Same.  However that runoff has gotten pretty contentious too.  Reportedly Alters people sent around a door flier with a picture of Virden photoshopped with a MAGA hat and was telling people that Virden would help open a “resort” on old Spicewood Springs road.

I could be wrong but I think Kelly is going go go down and go down big. She got by in the 1st round because no one wanted to talk about her complicated and awkward past but a lot of that has been exposed and a number of people seem very mobilized to help spread the word and get votes for Jimmy out. She could win Travis County but I don't see it being close in Williamson.

Yeah, I got it, it was such bullshit.

AFAIK, the "resort" on Old Spicewood issue is dead and the City paid the owner $4.5M.

Yeah, but give MacKenzie credit, she stole a playbook from D.C.  She repeats the same dumb shit over and over again in the same red tie, er...I mean dress.  And then she hangs back and lets your mind make the tacit tradeoff in your subconscious.  "No, she is not perfect.  Yes, she has some things in her past and she is too blunt.  But she will make the undesirables on the streets go away, and will lower my taxes, and preserve our District's way of life from way back when."  That's a well-educated and successful part of town, and even folks like that will fall for her con, er...I mean platform.

The people most in need of adulation, the biggest attention whores seeking validation.  The confidence game isn't that they earn your support, they fix it so that you strive to make them agree to take your support.  She's not that great at it yet, but she's learning from the best.  And I think she's got a real shot at this thing.  I didn't realize how may ballot places are open today though, they'll be counting this shit until midnight because 1 or 2 locations are be late with their mail-ins or something and that's gonna be huge because I think it's gonna be within a matter of a few hundred votes either way.  I don't think the margin will break 1,000.  Unless this AISD board spot is some kinda wild card we don't know about driving out voters under the Jimmy or FitLump camp heavily in one direction (I know nothing about that race since there are no risque photos involved).

If you make the run-off in a local election, you definitely have a chance of winning. Turn out can be so low that, it really is about energizing a small group of people. How many times do you see someone win a race but not get 50%. Then in the run-off, the order flips and the 2nd place person wins. And who knows what comes next.

Take Dan Crenshaw. His first race in the 2018 GOP primary, he came in second with 27% and only finished .3% out of 3rd place which would have knocked him out of the run-off an probably politics forever. We're talking 155 votes. Then in the GOP run-off, he turned something on, and won 70%.  Now he's talked about as a future governor, senator or who-knows-what candidate. But he was 155 votes from being a nobody in politics.

So Beeper, you're not pitching in for her victory party then?

I don't think I ever went to her campaign website, the coverage on Surly was too damn good.  But I just clicked on it and there's nothing there except a photo of her "Family", polling locations, and a contribute button.  I wanted to see, out of morbid curiosity, where her election night watch party was gonna be "No Masks!  No Rules!  No Jimmy Bitches!"

But there's no tabs like "About Me" or "Issues" or "Endorsements", it's just her looking like the front of the truck from "Maximum Overdrive" and a demand for $25.

...I see that you went and did it. This serves as a good reminder to always read through a thread before responding, because there's usually going to be someone who already said what you wanted to. In this case, you answered yourself.

If Kelly loses it will be due to those goons-gone-wild video(s) from Flannigan's gatherings.  Those were the tipping points.   Most would cast aside Kelly's history sheerly as meh to see someone / anyone take a seat with a different point of view as an offset to the maniacal lunacy that currently exists in city hall.   Wouldn't matter if it was maniacal lunacy from the right side, at all. It would just be a different voice because, as is, the current council is a viewed a cult-like tribe where votes on major issues are an afterthought with no meaningful dissent, dialogue or discussion.  None.  The only question is to see who can get in line quickly enough to vote like the person in front of them.

But the aforementioned videos were abrasive, buffoonish and ultimately scary.  And Kelly's association with / and failure to distance herself from those cretins will end up costing her. She wasn't going to distance herself because she likes the thugs but it will still be her death knell because fear and (documented, viral) intimidation are two things you don't want to have as part of your platform.

Now, watch her win by double digits....

Maybe the fact that the current mayor and council doing a such shitty job of policy-making for several years has gotten enough taxpayers fed up sufficiently to put an even bigger turd in office.
just sayin’

I feel sorry for my relatives who live in that District.

hmmm...this seems familiar...🤔
