German series Dark-Netflix

I am nearing the end of season one and this series lives up to its name. A friend had recommended this series to me and he told me it had been suggested to him by friends back in Europe. These people are all kinds of screwed up. There are two seasons so far and the 3rd one will be the last one for it. The biggest thing I think I would say to anyone watching it is try to keep up with the characters when they show different time periods. My friend told me to do this or things would have gotten confusing at first. Ulrich Nielsen is my favorite character so far. I highly recommend watching this series.

So good, I can't recommend enough.

Started watching and blasted through both seasons in a couple of days. Amazing how they got different actors that looked so alike for the different ages. Thought for sure a few of them were the same actor in age make up but then watched the credits to find out they were different actors.

Not sure if I saw season 2.  Is season two where the young man...

Spoiler

comes out in future where there has been some sort of apocalypse?

I think that's where I left the story. I loved it, but with the way series get spread out, I forget a lot of things. Seems like it was longer ago than last summer that I watched it.

TIA

The actors and actresses looking so similar was something my friend and I talked about. Both version's of Ulrich, his wife Katharina, and Aleksander Tiedemann all look remarkably the same. Just started season two and that ending to season one was crazy to think about after watching it. The writers for this show are just superb.

I watched 1/2 a season and then came back a couple months later to finish it and ended up going insane trying to remember who the fuck all the characters are and what they are doing.

This show really bends the mind following the characters, but the twists in what happens in that town and the people who live there make the show so amazingly good. I am past the halfway point of season two and hoo boy Winden is one really crazy place.

I binged both seasons in two days, and while I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's starting to get convoluted.  Now they're introducing another world?  I hope they've tightened up that script for season three.

When those two ladies touched hands and she had that reaction with that music playing...I thought at some point we were going to see an epic girl on girl scene.  Nope, how udderly disappointing.

Finished season two a couple of days ago. There are a couple of characters who need to get the axe, but I understand why they are still around. I'm glad season three is less than a month away because this show is all kinds of awesome so long as you can keep up with all the varying timelines. That is actually what makes the show for me to be honest.

maybe the most well-done Time Loop movie/tv show ive ever seen

I was talking last week with a friend out in LA that is a successful screenwriter who is from Germany and still does a lot of work in German film and television. We were talking about this show and I asked him if he knew the writers. He said they are friends of his and that he was impressed with what a superb job they have done putting everything together with all the varying timelines. I told him that whenever he sees them to tell them thank you for making such a great series.

Wife and I are surprisingly enjoying season 3 so far. I was a bit skeptical about what would happen after the end of season 2 but the first episode this season was really thoughtful and intriguing. Can't wait to finish it.

I definitely felt the same way about the end of season 2. I wasn’t sure how they were going to tie it all together in the end, but season 3 delivered.

Season 3 really gets so much crossover from time to time, place to place, it really got to the point where I felt it wasn't worth finishing about episode 5.  But I hung in there, and glad I did.  The last episode really ties it all together nicely, the next to last episode sets up all that up.  They didn't rush the series, nor fill it with fluff just to stretch 6 episodes into 8.  Nor did they try to cram 12 episodes into 8 either.

I could not imagine being the guy who had to describe this story to sell it to the studios.  It's as interwoven as a Clive Barker novel with all the twists and turns, the interplay.

I have a few questions, but I will wait until more of you folks finish.

I think I have to call the conclusion a fumble.

They seemed a little lost about what to do in the early episodes. It was hard to keep things straight although my beloved wondered if the confusion was perhaps intentional because you don't really need to know exactly how people are related and interelated to follow the main story.

Certainly a worthwhile series. A stronger finish would make it elite.

Spoiler

The whole thing about the cause and solution of the situation being tied to Jonas and Martha's enduring love was a time wasting red herring. Then the vague notion of cutting the knot and closing the loop was something of a let down. I wanted something smarter.

I was okay with the realization that the cause was actually founded in a character kept mostly on the sidelines. When they revealed why the time hole had been made, it made sense. I don't see how destroying the loop would destroy the people created. They are not illusions.

A lot of good stuff.

I know why they would make an eight episode season instead of four, but this should have been four episodes.  Drop the shit that absolutely was irrelevant.  It's called Dark, so I was hoping for a darker ending, like Jonas and Martha appear and cause the guy and his wife to still crash his car.

Season three was great. I really enjoyed the ending. The season is harder to follow at times than the prior two due to all the jumping back and forth through time, but it delivered. I usually do not like shows like this, but it was so well written and the acting was exceptional.

We finished last night. I enjoyed the last episode. With how complicated everything was the ending was both satisfying and realistic (for Dark). S3E5 and S3E6 were slog fests imo but 7 and 8 were top notch. I really stopped trying to follow all of the time jumps even as early as season 2 and I think this helped my enjoyment. You arent going to get every single thing on a first run through anyway. My wife and I are thinking about at least watching the first season again to see more of how things all tied in together. Good show. 8/10 overall

If you haven't finished the show don't click on the link below. It explains the timeline in-depth and what happened in the years between the 33 year intervals. That a show has to be explained like this is honestly pretty cool. I tried not to focus on every little detail and just enjoy the show, but the link fills in gaps for me.

We just finished this after bingeing all three seasons at once. I can't imagine having to wait for the next season and picking it all up again once, let alone twice.

I really liked the whole thing, but my wife found the multiple worlds aspect more tedious than engaging.

I recommend getting baked and watching it with someone who isn't baked.

I look forward to examining that graphic from a desktop computer with a large monitor rather than from my phone.

About halfway through, I wondered whether it would be helpful to have a printable booklet (or app) with the known family trees and multiple "identities" that you could consult at all times, or if that would take away some of the enjoyment.

It would be pretty easy to just have a small number appear in the corner of the screen to indicate which diagram is most current (maybe a brief tone to alert to a new update?), and as long as the viewer has some self control, they could keep it pretty keyed into when you turn the page depending on on-screen revelations while avoiding spoilers. Those of you who had film strips in school can imagine what I'm thinking of.

In reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, I took extensive notes on the family tree in the preface (as someone had recommended) and it was very helpful. I felt like this show could have benefitted from a little bit of a cheat sheet somehow. That way the viewer could concentrate on the story rather than spending time working a puzzle instead.

Just finished this bad boy. I had the benefit of watching them all pretty close together - finished s1 and s2 a few months ago and just ran through s3 in a couple of weeks. I agree with most of the takes on s3 that it wandered a bit. I found myself playing on my phone a little bit in s3 where I didn't in the past. And it some of the early episodes for s3 were a little hard to follow. But I thought the end-game of the story was really well done and made sense in the big picture. It wasn't cheap at all and it fit with everything else.

What a story. Only Germans could engineer something that complex and still consistent and earned. I thought the whole series was great.

Spoilers:

The two timelines was a little clunky early on, but they did a good job of tying it all together in the last 2-3 episodes. And I thought the two "new" worlds being sort of a cancerous offshoot of the "real" world was clever and fit the entire story pretty well. I'm also glad we got a reasonably happy ending. The show edged into misery porn a bit too much to also end miserably or on an incredibly dark note, which is what I was expecting. Pleasantly surprised.

Great show. Sad to be done with it.
