Do You Know Anyone Personally Who Was Murdered or a Murderer?

Stepbrother evicted his tenant.  Moved in and then was shot and killed through the peephole three days later.  And he was the good stepbrother.

Haiku version:

Stepbrother evicts

dumps possessions on front lawn

dies by peephole shot.

So, I just noticed this thread and not sure if this counts as knowing a murder but let’s say that when I was a kid my father was “connected” to some people.  His business partner was a little guy who I called “Uncle” Oscar.  I found out when i was older he was one of the most feared hit men for the Gambino and Lucchesi crime families in New York.  I also learned that my “Uncle” Vic from NY was the Don of one of the Five Families in NY.  I did not know all of this as 7-8 year old.  I realized it when I was in college and watching Goodfellas and I realized I knew a lot people with nicknames when I was a kid that were friends or associates of my father just like this movie I was watching.  As far as my “Uncle” Oscar, he was the nicest guy to me as he was close friends to my dad and I still remember him giving me a $100 bill and telling me to spend it all at Toys R Us and my parents needed to let me.  This was in the late 1970’s so that was big money.  I bought a crap ton of Star Wars action figures with that cash.

And yet after all these years, and despite having DNA evidence, the 1991 Austin yogurt shop murders, the most high profile crime in Austin history, the murder and rape and torching by fire of four underage girls aged 13-17, somehow remain unsolved. Hmm...

There is very little doubt that the criminals who killed those girls can be located through DNA evidence nowadays. It may have been difficult in the past but it’s not now.

They don’t want to find the truth though because it’s got the potential of being so bad that it’s better to just let it lie. They’re scared of what the truth might actually be.

My wife was friends with those girls at Mac.

Yeah I think I recall you saying something about that on the shag. You also probably know who I am as I believe we probably know each other.

To me it’s ridiculous they have DNA and apparently nobody is doing shit about it. I hate to be all tin foil about it but there’s a whole bunch of smoke and basically no investigation into the most heinous murder this town ever saw. It doesn’t add up and reeks from hell.

What are the theories? I think I remember them trying to connect it to a serial killer, but the time line didn't work out or something.

Especially when you see quite a few cold cases (significant ones) being solved by GEDMatch and Parabon Nanolabs.

Fascinating stuff. Was watching that show Cold Justice this weekend and I see that they were able to solve a cold case from 1994 (the show—has that former ADA out of HTown trying to help with cold cases) in Amarillo. I mentioned it a long ass time ago in my post of people I know that were murdered.

Jackie Lynn Hogue. Horrific murder and a sad outcome for her children. One went to UT. Was glad to see that that show was able to help them with an arrest and fuck that guy.  Was watching that this weekend and saw the episode.

You’re thinking of Kenneth mcduff who kidnapped and killed Colleen reed right around the same time from that car wash on 5th street that interestingly enough still is there. I think he confessed to the yogurt shop murders at one point, but in reality he had nothing to do with it.

The perpetrators were in all likelihood 2-3 guys in their 20s who were semi professional criminals/killers who almost no doubt had criminal records that the DNA they have in their possession could eventually trace back to. Why they won’t pursue that lead is the question because their excuses on it are total bullshit.

Like any big murder case there are all sorts of crackpot ridiculous conspiracy theories as to what happened but the big question in this case is why were those criminals there that night in the first place and why won’t APD and the Travis county DAs office pursue the leads they got given how much technology has changed. They just want it to go away IMO.

I’ve known two people that were murdered, both from Texas City.

Shelley Sikes

https://www.galvnews.com/specialsections/article_867f2a89-d0b6-5b32-9b5b-0c68c2333439.html

“The people convicted in Shelley Sikes’ disappearance are dead and gone.

But investigators hope their deaths while in prison will compel someone to come forward with information that has long remained elusive: where is Sikes’ final resting place?

Sikes was 19 and had just finished working her shift at Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant on Memorial Day 1986. As she was driving home along 61st Street in Galveston, she encountered Gerald Zwarst and John Robert King.”

Kevin Bones

(I lived next door to him when we were kids)  Murdered in San Antonio.  Fucking tragic.

http://homicides.expressnews.com/2009/65/

A 30-year-old man wielding an assault rifle was arrested on a murder charge after three people, including his 2-year-old daughter, were found shot to death in his North Side apartment early Sunday.

Chris Allgood was charged with one count of murder and one count of discharging a firearm after authorities found the bodies of his 26-year-old girlfriend, Courtney Gass, the couple's toddler Anika and an unidentified adult male in the apartment in the 8500 block of Wakefield Drive.

When being led away from the Police Department to be charged, Allgood mumbled that "the girl" did it, but he did not elaborate. If an investigation leads police to believe that Allgood shot all three people, he could face a capital murder charge, which is punishable by the death penalty.

He is currently in Bexar County Jail on $205,000 bond.

Though authorities have not identified the victims, Gass' family in Texas City confirmed their names. The unidentified male is believed to be an acquaintance of the couple and was visiting from Texas City, said San Antonio Police Department spokesman Joe Rios.

Kevin was a great guy.  In the pic, he’s on the far left of the 4.

I grew up in Carthage. Didn't know Bernie directly, but knew people that went to his church. One guy made a comment onetime that he sat in Bernie's lap when he was dressed as Santa about a week after the murder happened.

Danny Buck was also my Mom's divorce attorney (prior to his DA days) when my parents divorced.

One of my best friends has a pic sitting on Bernie’s lap when he did the Santa Claus thing. No idea the timeframe but based on my age it has to have been either that year or the year before I’d think. What a wild story that guy is.

Both sides of my family are from Carthage. There are still plenty of them in the Clayton area. If you are driving into Carthage from Clayton on 315 and remember a house on the left that was surrounded by pecan trees that had tin wrapped around their trunks so the squirrels couldn't climb up them and steal the pecans, that was my grandfather.

I will through out another example that isn’t someone I knew but I knew a lot of the people in the case.   Many of you may know the Adam Walsh murder story.  He was a kid abducted at the local Mall in Hollywood, FL and found murdered.  It was a big national story and his dad, John Walsh started the TV show Americas Most Wanted.  I lived in the same neighborhood as them and used to ride my bike to that mall almost daily so I was probably at the mall when he was taken (I think he was left alone at the Atari display in Sears or something like that).  The police detectives that worked the case were good friends with my dad (used to play poker with my dad and go fishing with him).  The dentist that did the dental medical records to prove the body was Adam was also a close friend of our family.  Let’s just say I was told there were rumors that this wasn’t a random abduction and murder but that his dad was in the drug business and this was a retaliation for some drug related stuff.

I have heard about this too.  My wife's brother-in-law is retired law enforcement from Florida -Jacksonville.  One time AMW was on while he was flipping through channels and he told me this.

Interesting...A quick google search doesn't seem to find any clear allegations that Adam Walsh's murder was directly connected to drugs, but it looks like the Walsh's really were into coke....and he worked for an off-shore casino.   You got Money & Drugs in the mix, so that it's plausible.

When they sued Sears, Sears disposed a friend that used to live with the Walshes and the friend claimed under oath to having an affair with the wife/mon and about the Walsh's big coke use. Not surprising they fought to have that sealed.

I'm surprised I hadn't heard about that before.

The Walsh’s probably did coke but it probably had nothing to do with their sons murder. Drug dealers don’t kill kids because some druggy owes them money, or even a contractor that owes them money. It’s terrible business. They usually don’t even kill the druggy or contractor just rough them up unless it’s a ton of money they won’t ever possibly get back.

Also seems kinda stretch that Walsh would go so high profile if he had any idea that's what happened

http://Into Thin Air: What happened to nine-year-old Michael J Woodward? https://debrabuck.medium.com/into-thin-air-what-happened-to-nine-year-old-michael-j-woodward-44873ff9dcef

Michael was my Mom’s 1st cousin. Her uncle Joe was from Temple but stationed at Ft. Jackson at the time. Although not technically a murder since no body was ever found, the whole family feels like he’s deceased.

http:// https://www.fox7austin.com/news/domestic-violence-murder-rate-up-more-shelters-needed

Sadly I can’t find a news story on the murder-suicide, but Hope Buzan was my 3rd cousin. I only met her a few times even though we both grew up in the same area. Oddly enough, she dated my 1st cousin on my other side of the family for a couple of years (from Lexington). Kinda weird but then again, there ain’t a whole lot of normal going on in the Taylor-Thrall-Thorndale-Lexington Metro Area. My great uncle (her Dad) has been a mess ever since.

Can’t find the story but a family friend named David Threadgill from Taylor was robbed and murdered by repeated blows to the head with a glass ketchup bottle as he slept in his hotel room in Vegas. I was around 10 at the time and my Dad and I played golf with him a few weeks before the murder.

Mrs.Brat was from Taylor and knew some of the Buzans and maybe the Threadgills. But she left town to go off to college in 1963.

Video from a neighbor of her covered in blood with police on scene. Side note judging from the angle of the video I assume this neighbor knew she was on OF before this all went down.

Former co-worker was murdered by his brother while moving his elderly parents out of the house about 10 years ago.  The brother was going to have to move out as well, but they told him they would help him out and get him on his feet.  Didn't matter he went back into the house came out with a gun and shot my co-worker in the back 5-6 times.

It's getting a little dusty in here just thinking back on all of it, especially with my own 12yr old daughter.  I kept it in at the time, and was pretty stoic.  Whole city mourned them.  Boys2Men "So hard to say goodbye" was dedicated to them.  Year later I was @ Mo Ranch and the song came on.  I BROKE DOWN.  Had to extricate myself and go off in the woods.  I balled, and balled, and balled.  It was just so random.  So horrible.  So senseless.  The parents.  God help them to this day.

We used to shop now & then at Ayers Jewelry Store (Amy’s grandparents owned it) down the street from Lanier High School before that happened. The grandpa died about a year after the murders, from a broken heart I’d guess.

Don't click on these links unless you want to go down a deep, dark, scary hole.

I lived down the street in Dallas from Jill Bounds and mowed her lawn. I was also one of the last people to see or talk to her before she was murdered in 1988 and got pulled out of class at school to talk to the cops about it.

Pretty soon they realized she knew much weirder people than the 14 year old kid down the street and moved on, although they never solved the murder (personally I think it was the boyfriend). This isn't really about Jill. Jill's an example.
But I knew him and the others too, because my mom was involved in the New Age movement and was friends with Terri Hoffman who was a mentor of sorts to her until Deveraux "drowned" and Sandy drove her car off a cliff, and my mom had the good sense to finally pull away from Terri, because as the body count grew over a period of several years beginning in the mid-70's it became clear that Terri was just a fundamentally dangerous person to know.

I spent a lot of time with Terri and over at her house. She gave me presents occasionally and I think I even slept over there a couple times. I'll never forget her. She was absolutely terrifying and surrounded by darkness. It's one of the only things from my childhood I can't shake. She is the monster underneath my bed.
