Yeah because in today’s match, all the challenges have been warranted- there have just been more missed calls than challenges allocated. Is he, on the national semifinal, supposed to let early bad calls go?  Every call is a 2 point swing, they’re all important.

That's another reason rally scoring isn't the best for volleyball. I prefer the old school style of only being able to score on your own service.

How do we match up against Wisconsin? Is the difference between 1 and 4 that great in volleyball?

Not really. Texas plays in a weaker conference but has similar or better talent at almost every position, save setter.

Texas - better athletes, better out of system attacking, more terminal hitters that hit over and around big blocks

Wisconsin - more fundamental, better floor defense, better passing

In theory, well.  We probably have more offensive horsepower, they are theoretically a better defensive team  That defense can make their offense really go..  Historically, teams like Wisconsin give us fits with pasty short girls playing defense and passing with precision from a winter spent in the gym.  But that would be true of other top B1G teams like Corn and PSU, soooooo.

In reality, though, we've played roughly double the number of games, and we look to be mostly hitting on all cylinders.  Wisconsin does not.  That could change tonight.

So white girls vs black girls?

Wellll, maybe.

It's probably coaching as much as anything.  To be fair, we mostly play white girls in the back row and at setter, where they have the advantage, usually.

Like Twice said, we’ve played almost a season and a half compared to Wisconsin, who had a long layover due to COVID and missed 5 of their 8 matches versus similar talent in the B1G (Corn, PSU and one Minny match all cancelled)

Yeah I know what our girls look like. Just being goofy.

Yeah.  But, we do have a bit of a history of more players of color than a lot of other teams.  It is not an explanation for why we're more offensively oriented to the detriment of defense, because most of the front row players (e.g. back girls) don't play defense, but we have had a series of PoC six-rotation players.

Until lately, and the arrival of excellent transfer libero Morgan O"Brien, our inability to play defense is pretty squarely on the recruiting and coaching of Jerritt Elliott and staff.  If she doesn't stick around next year, we're going to miss her badly.  Iosia may be an adequate replacement, she's flashed, but it's unclear.

Reason I bring this up, I noodled around on volleytalk some the last few days and there are more than a few insinuations that Texas is "ghetto."

“Wisconsin has never lost a national semifinals”

And before Monday, Nebraska had never missed a Final Four held in Omaha.

They sitting at home defeated by Texas.

Sure looked like it.

Yeah I slo-mo'd it. Easily in. Same line judge missed the one off touch earlier too. It was also in, but at least they called the touch.

Wisconsin is passing Texas’ serve really well.

We need Skylar to start bombing away.

They’re getting great block touches.
