Trump will fight the flags being at half-mast.  Somebody will have to do it themselves. Will be fun to hear Hunkabeef-Sanders explain it.

"LOok, President Trump made it clear yesterday we should be grieving.  But he doesn't feel like a Senator who was so openly hostile towards this White House deserves additional respect. As he made clear, he doesn't like people who were captured. Really, Jim? This is the best you can do? 52% of the American people approve of President Trump. It was...it was in...a poll. No I can't refer to you which specific poll it was, but it's very real."

Actually, the reverse is true.  Many people that voted for Trump saw the democrats as evil betrayers of the country that must be stopped.

Hate and fear are easier to exploit than hope and love.

I don't disagree with your second statement. I'm referring to the basket of deplorables comments, etc.

I don't see a lot of hope and love from either side.

Russian lawmaker, who described McCain as an enemy in his statement on his passing was more respectful to McCain than Trump.  That’s remarkable.

Not defending Trump, but to be clear, they were lowered at the WH right after he died.   It appears that the WH did the bare minimum of a day or so.   They should have done it until he lies in state, IMO, but the tweet implies they completely ignored his death with the flag.

I don't see any good reason to extend love to someone who still supports Trump.  That may not be a very kind (or some would say Christian) way of looking at it, but look where we are.

These people deserve much love from the other side of spectrum. They've been so respectful and civil.

It was just Sunday. The flag being at half-staff at the White House yesterday was pretty widely reported. I didn't perceive that implication.

It's just Trump's m.o.

I live in Trumpkin land.  I know it’s easy to hate those that still support Trump but it won’t do any good.  I see the continued Trump supporters as the highly misinformed and ignorant.

Most have been unknowingly manipulated through a lot of disinformation and propaganda.  Of course I could never tell this to them to their faces.

I’ve found the best approach to dealing with the Trump supporters is to challenge them through simple but thought provoking questions.

”What is America?”

”What are the things that have value in the United States compared with other countries?”

”What about America is worth defending?”

Press them on these type fundamental topics and try to get a productive conversation out of the dialogue.

At least that’s my approach instead of writing them off.

I'd have to stop loving my parents so, not an option for me. And I know other smart, successful, fairly reasonable people who continue to support him. It's fascinating.

It might.  You won't convert the Trumpkins, but you might flip the switch for some of the apathetic and undecided.

There is exactly 0% chance of success with your method.

Trump has no idea what respect is.  He's been searching for self respect his whole life and hasn't found any.  Never will, so he just lives on falsehoods that make him feel important.  And those falsehoods are as mercurial as the wind.  The thing that stays constant is his insecurity which he shores up with racist and classist remarks.

Perhaps but with my method, I’m controlling the narrative instead of them telling me how disrespectful those son-of-a-bitch NFL players are kneeling before the flag or how pussy hats are offensive.

It’s sort of a reverse troll approach and catches them off guard.  That alone makes it worth it.

I used to support republicans. McCain’s death and trumps ridiculous response is just yet another signal to me that the party I used to support is completely dead and needs to be destroyed. From now on, anyone who continues to vote republican is either a complete moron, a narcicist, or is a selfish fool who puts his or her own self interest above the country. So in other words,  fuck em. Fuck em all.

I don’t disagree with any of that, really.  Just wistful with the passing of one of the last of a dying breed.

The flags at the White House, which were lowered over the weekend to mark the death of Sen. John McCain, are back at full-staff.

The flags at the U.S. Capitol, meanwhile, remained at half-staff on Monday to honor the Arizona Republican, who died Saturday of brain cancer.

President Donald Trump offered his condolences on Twitter to McCain’s family but hasn’t issued a presidential proclamation with an order lowering the flags. The two had a long-running feud.

U.S. Flag Code states that flags be lowered “on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.”

After Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts died in 2009, President Barack Obama ordered flags at the White House be flown at half-staff for five days.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to questions Monday.

I'm glad I'm not burdened with that conflict.  Family would of course win out.  Were my parents still alive today, they would be apoplectic, and they were Republicans for much of their lives, until some point in the 1980s when it all just became too transparently gross even for them.  At that point they just considered themselves independent.

Hey, remember how corrupt the Catholic church of the Middle Ages was?  I 'member (cuz I've read books and stuff).  Leading to the Reformation, and a shitload of bloodshed?  "member that?  Here's a list of just some of the more significant elements of corruption of the supposedly holy Catholic Church back then.  See how many ring a bell about the American Evangelical movement today:

Quote

  • Immorality of the Clergy. Celibacy for clergy became Roman Church law in 1079. This mandate tempted all kinds of immorality. The abodes of the clergy were often dens of corruption. It was a common sight to see priests frequenting the taverns, gambling, and having orgies with quarrels and blasphemy. Many of the clergy kept mistresses, and convents became houses of ill fame. In many places the people were delighted at seeing a priest keep a mistress, that the married women might be safe from his seductions.
"In many places the priest paid the bishop a regular tax for the women with whom he lived, and for each child he had by her. A German bishop said publically one day, at a great entertainment, that in one year eleven thousand priests had presented themselves before him for that purpose. It is Erasmus who relates this" (D'aubigne).
  • Immorality of the People. Morality declined with the decline of faith. Take away supernatural salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone and you take away sanctification and good works. Indulgences were looked upon by the common man as a license to sin, for men could buy their forgiveness.

  • Ignorance of Clergy. Many of the clergy had come to their offices through political maneuvering. In a country parish one person called the clergy "miserable wretches . . . previously raised from beggary, and who had been cooks, musicians, huntsmen, stable boys and even worse." Clergy no longer had to learn and teach the Scriptures, for the church told them what to do. Even the superior clergymen were sunk in great ignorance in spiritual matters. They had secular learning, but knew very little of the Bible.
"A bishop of Dunfeld congratulated himself on having never learnt either Greek or Hebrew. The monks asserted that all heresies arose from those two languages, and particularly from the Greek. ‘The New Testament,' said one of them, ‘is a book full of serpents and thorns. Greek,' continued he, ‘is a new and recently invented language, and we must be upon our guard against it. As for Hebrew, my dear brethren, it is certain that all who learn it immediately become Jews.'

"Even the faculty of theology at Paris scrupled not to declare to the parliament: ‘Religion is ruined, if you permit the study of Greek and Hebrew'" (D'aubigne).
  • Inquisition. This organization was designed to inquire into the spread of heresy and to call before its tribunal Catholics suspected of heresy with a view to securing their repentance. The accused were sometimes tortured and even put to death. The Inquisition was a disgrace to men who call themselves followers of God.

  • The Papal Schism. From 1378-1417 there were three simultaneous popes, each claiming to be the true pope: Urban VII, an Italian; Clement VII, a Frenchman; and a third pope elected by the Council of Pisa. For several years there were three popes anathematizing and excommunicating one another.

  • The Practice of Simony. Simony was the sinful practice of giving or obtaining an appointment to a church office for money. This was a common practice in the Middle Ages, even in the obtaining of the office of pope.

  • Relics. Rome, playing on the ignorance of people, held all kinds of relics in veneration.
"In the church of All Saints at Wittenberg was shown a fragment of Noah's ark, some soot from the furnace of the Three Children, a piece of wood from the cradle of Jesus Christ, some hair from the beard of St. Christopher, and nineteen thousand other relics of greater or less value" (D'aubigne).

I mean, I guess we don't have an actual Inquisition now, so that's nice.  Winning!

The evangelical movement is an enemy of the Christian faith, not its champion.  It is the corrupt power structure of the empire, openly and shamelessly dispensing with any true morality and decency, and declaring that the only moral act that matters is swearing fealty and obedience to the movement.

So, of course it's a favorite of our corrupt would-be emperor.

I guess it's more important that a man plays great golf than be smart.  Unfortunately for Trump, he is neither.

You forget that he holds the course record and is club champion and virtually all of his golf clubs.

And Kim Jong Il made 11 hole in ones to score 38 under.

The mindset of a dictator is never grounded in reality.

Trump is currently doing a media event where Mexico officials congratulate him for his tremendous success on speaker phone in the Oval Office.

This is Trump taking control of the media away from the other developments in the news.

He didn’t have to make this a big TV production but he is.

Quality media manipulation.

DOTUS said they'll drop the NAFTA name bc of so many bad connotations. Said Canada can make a deal if they want and may be rolled into this agreement. He said that 'the agreement with Canada is mostly there already so it would be very easy to do.'
