Dude, it's simple.   Obama and the Dems did zilch to protect our borders, and Trump has done a bunch of tough things that have made our border strong.    Also, if you don't like those tough things that Trump has done, you are a hypocrite because Obama did all of the same things before.

This is a great example of what us sane people are up against.  Well said.

In a local cafe this morning for breakfast I had the pleasure of sitting across from a trio of Trumpkins taking turns scaring each other about immigration.

One went on a tangent about how colleges were giving tennis scholarships to foreigners. Foreigners, of course, can’t play Doubles, so the NCAA had to change the rules so there is now only one Doubles match (which hardly counts) and six singles. Foreigners also were calling “Let!” all of the time so there were no more aces. NCAA had to eliminate the let because of them. “And this is the strategy they are employing everywhere! It’s incredible!” Indeed.

Same guy later says no one understands what Trumps doing. Trump doesn’t care about the debt because when he resets the economy, the US Treasury will become the Federal Reserve “which is the way it was always supposed to be” and all of our problems will go away.

He finished with “He’s playing 3D chess” and I actually laughed out loud.

We’re properly fucked.

I have been reading this lately:

Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide?: ('Cause I Need More Room for My Plasma TV)

by
Karen Spears Zacharias (Goodreads Author)
What does it really mean to be blessed by God? With Southern charm and razor-sharp wit in Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide?, author Karen Spears Zacharias shows how the "prosperity" gospel has led us astray from true Christianity and helped create people and churches focused on greed. Zacharias unpacks story after story of families and individuals using the name of God as a means to living their own "good life." You'll hear shocking tales of those who exploit the gospel for their own gain, and mega-evangelists who live in million-dollar mansions with children groomed from the cradle to sell the message of Christ while their parents rake in the cash. Discover churches that have modeled themselves on Wall Street and unbridled materialism, and see what is happening to them now. Is this the good life? You'll also meet some unlikely folks who live with genuine biblical integrity. People who know that God is more than some cosmic genie who gives them an easy life, a fat bank account, and a second home in an exotic location. Come discover stories about authentic Christianity and the true "good life" in Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide?

To me this explains a lot about the link between Trump and the religious right.  A big chunk of Christianity has devolved from the original message over the past decades into one defined by the "prosperity gospels."     Trump exemplifies how you can "get yours" while paying lip service to basic christian tenets of charity and tolerance.

This was published pre-Dotard, but it explains in part what his base was raised on, what they believe to be true.   It is a short read, well worth the time.

grerat article in the washington post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/in-the-service-of-whim-officials-scramble-to-make-trumps-false-assertions-real/2018/10/23/0c271586-d6de-11e8-83a2-d1c3da28d6b6_story.html?utm_term=.4c4d525cef3d

Essentially, Trump says something crazy/untrue and then all the underlings/sycophants start scrambling, attempting to create concrete ways to make it seem less crazy/untrue.

edit.. summarized better in the comments: "Officials scramble to make Trump's false assertions real".

"Great" seems like a strong word.  It is an accurate article that makes me want to punch everyone in the admin directly in the face.

Along those same lines, but not focused on the religious shit...

I think much of the "liberal" media is made up of generally liberal people (i.e., they don't instinctively hate queers and find explicit racism distasteful), but the right knows how to work them to their advantage.  Andrew Breitbart had a good quote about it - "Feeding the media is like training a dog.  You can’t throw an entire steak at a dog to train it to sit. You have to give it little bits of steak over and over again until it learns."

It's crazy how all of these once semi-capable people just lose all critical thought and curiosity once they fall into the foxnews/facebook/drudgereport trance. My parents and most of their friends are part of this group. It's astounding how little non-sanctioned information they take in, 75% of what they are fed is fear of immigrants and democrats (socialists/communists) and 25% that the dear leader can do no wrong. When you push back just a little bit with verifiable facts (tariffs are a tax on consumers)  or just basic logical thoughts (if that's our healthcare system poor people will just have to lay on the sidewalk and die while people walk by, Jesus would not approve), the conversation is immediately shut down with "your SO liberal, what happened to you LOL".

The biggest victim in Donald Trump's war so far has been intellectualism on the right.  It's sad to watch up close.

I haven’t read the book, but the problem goes beyond just the prosperity gospel. The materialism that’s on full display in those teachers is rampant everywhere. Merging Christian ideals with modern American crony capitalist ideals has made something best described as demonic. “The gates of hell shall not prevail” implies that they’ll sure try. Right now at the height of material comfort and while holding substantial political power, the spiritual health of the American church is in terrible shape.

As bad as it is for the government when religion comes to power, it’s much worse for the spiritual health of the church. Jesus was a homeless preacher with no political power who was executed. The ones who worship him would have cheered at the crucifixion.

My dad called my brother and told him that his wife better not post on Facebook after Beto loses the election (She's a Beto sharer and my brother has a fairly public/social job) because it could hurt his career...in San Antonio...
