Rudy is the trial balloon guy. And all of his "pleading in the alternative" is team Trump's way of finding out whether Trump should adopt the argument. Rudy gets on TV and goes out on a limb with some position: "Trump can't be impeached because Hillary." They use Rudy to gauge public response to the terrible bullshit arguments that Trump will be making when the Mueller report ultimately comes out.

I love people 'pleading in the alternative' in normal conversation.  People that have an actual factual record to rely on always say "No, no no.  I totally did not collude.   But if I did, it's not illegal."

I bought firewood from an old man last weekend and he was a real chatty dude who couldn't keep himself from bringing up politics.  He started in on the wall and couldn't believe that I didn't think it was a great idea that we should plow forward with.  I could tell right away he was a full throated Trumpkin because he started his pleading with me -"He's already done more for this country than any other president in History!!!!1!!!one!!"  He then thought he was going to get me when he said, "Name one thing the president has done that you disagree with, just one thing.  I always ask libruls that and they can't answer."  I said, well Mr. May, he seems to have a really hard time telling the truth about anything and his rhetoric is extremely divisive and unhealthy for the country.  He then said something about What do you expect when he is attacked non-stop by the MSM!?

We kept it civil and he ended up shaking my hand and invited me to come shoot some hogs off the back of his property because he's been overrun.  He did say that he's been a democrat his whole life until they "Lost their minds" and he decided to vote for Trump.  He's the first one of those that I've met in the wild.

Dude wore an old cowboy had with a King Cobra - head and all - as the hat band.

How old?

I think he said he was 72.

White leather coat, white leather boots, black felt cowboy hat with a f'n Cobra on top.  I was real close to asking if I could get a selfie but I couldn't bring myself to do it.  "Now you're going to have to load most of this up on account of my bad back..."

He was on the west side of 59 between Nac and Lufkin if anyone is looking for some stimulating political conversation...

"Market Facilitation Payments."  Holy fuck.  That's perhaps the most bureaucratic bullshit term ever.

Draining the swamp indeed.  Here's a hint -- if your guy uses a term like "Market Facilitation Payments," he ain't draining the swamp...he IS the swamp.

You just don't understand winning.  Depleting the treasury for handouts to your base to make up for an economic catastrophe entirely of your own making = OWNING THE LIBS.

Jesus.  Tapdancing.  Christ.

Rudy may legitimately be the worst lawyer in the world.  And yes, I'm including that guy who thought that the rules limited depositions to 6 hours total...of both plaintiffs....not 6 hours per side....of each plaintiff, so he pointlessly deposed his own client for hours to "eat up the clock" so that we wouldn't be able to depose his other client.  Then he was shocked when the court reporter told him "well, they've only used 2.5 hours on the first guy, so they have 3.5 hours left on him.  And they haven't used any time on the second guy, so they still have their 6 hours for him."  That guy....I'd rather have him for my lawyer than Rudy.

When your lawyer defiantly ADMITS to your felony on national TV, you have a fucktarded lawyer.

Is ol' Rude Dog Rudy dumber than this guy?:

Bailiff announces that the judge (who is female and Hispanic) will be late to court. Opposing council says out loud in the courtroom "I guess we're on Mexican Time huh huh huh". Judge finally shows up. Very first witness he called, dipshit asked his own fucking witness when the last time the witness had heard a racist statement. Witness said "just now, when you said we were on Mexican time because the judge was late."

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/12/24/how-trump-made-war-on-angela-merkel-and-europe

What does Putin want more than anything? The dissolution of the Western Alliance. Trump is doing everything he can to destroy that alliance and, unfortunately, he's succeeding.    Here's my simple theory as to why Trump hates Merkel:  she's unattractive, and he doesn't want to fuck her.  He's a misogynistic asshole who has no use for women other than as ornaments for himself and his ego.

Agree with the Putin point.  But regarding Trump and women — he will tolerate them on two conditions.  They are attractive and will fuck him and/or they have their standing through him and are thus indebted to him.  That’s the least common denominator between Melania, Ivanka, Hope Hicks, Huckabeef, Omarosa, etc...

There is no room in Trump’s mind for a woman with power of her own device, like Merkel or Pelosi, as an ally, let alone an equal.

Then this is to transfer ownership to China. They are going to take ownership of the area where we grow our food. I am too dumb to figure out all the ways that they can fuck us by doing this, but I am smart enough to know it is bad.

Was this the fucking plan all along,Putin?

Almost daily now, we're beginning to learn how much people knew about Trump's decades of vileness and criminality but chose to remain silent, or worse, gave him a tongue bath throughout 2016.

Was is because people quite literally feared some form of being directly harmed and don't anymore, or thought they could personally profit and now realize the well is dry ?

Looking back, it's staggering how much was known about Trump below the level of public awareness that simply went unmentioned and unquestioned by so many.

Well, the Senate Pubs conducted their own investigation into Trump and found nothing, because of Benghazi, uranium and Hillary's emails.  But they tried.

It's very difficult to say HONESTLY that there is any certainty that Russia DID NOT swing the election.  You can say there is no way to know for certain.  But there is no way you can categorically deny the possibility with a straight face, if you still believe in any actual fact finding at all. Especially when you realize his victory was what? about 70,000 votes swinging his way.

And it's especially interesting when you now know he KNEW Russia was listening when he asked if they were listening giving them instructions to go after emails. Then Russia does exactly as their comrade asked.

All they needed to do, which Trump even publicly stated, was for Libs to say I won't vote for Trump but I sure can't vote for Hillary.  Think some of the disinformation was also aimed at dividing the Dems over Bernie too.

They had to know some of the glaringly obvious variables---he could not get elected, he could get elected and it be proven fraudulent, he could be impeached/removed from office, he could resign in shame (not likely), or the more likely of all scenarios---a bitter and defensive chubby 72 year old with an eating disorder could just not make it through his term.

What's the backup plan by Russia?  He had such a narrow shot of winning the nomination and the general...even with their help.  What were they gonna do if he doesn't last for 4 or 8 years in office?

And most important to me---what if his (seemingly) eventual removal from office is part of their plan?  They're not that dumb.  What if they know no way he lasts all four years...

If Russia is as embedded in our Republic as so many of you seem to believe.....what comes next?  What's the next phase?  They pulled off the ability to install a very questionable candidate into the Oval Office and they're just gonna ditch that program in 24 months because Pelosi asks them to?

Trump will literally scream that on the way out of the White House, "Mark my words...I'm the only one keeping Russia at bay.  You're not gonna like what comes next!"  But in a way, I think the twisted fucker may be right in his denial of how he, himself could not possibly have anything to do with his own bad decisions in life.  I think the other shoe drops when he leaves office.  It is incredible cognitive dissonance to believe Russia was this powerfully meddlesome force for the last three years, but because of the Blue Tide or Beto or whatever, they'll retreat away into the night.

Trump tweets too much, like the boy that called wolf.  His base tunes out majority of his bs because they want to remain ignorant of everything.  Plus, there's just no way to keep up with the all garbage that spews forth from his daily twitter dumps.

Not that it's a bad thing.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/trump-demands-stop-to-emoluments-case-as-state-ags-subpoena-38-witnesses

Quote

President Trump’s Justice Department is scrambling to stop two state attorneys general from procuring evidence about whether the President is violating the Constitution’s emoluments clause by filing an emergency appeal in the Fourth Circuit court.

Warning that attorneys general from Maryland and DC have sent 38 subpoenas to third parties, Justice Department attorneys argue that the court needs to halt the lawsuit at the district court level before documents from those subpoenas are returned by a January 3 deadline.

Trump lost a motion to dismiss the suit at the district court level in the case, and he filed the appeal as a petition for writ of mandamus, essentially asking the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to override the lower court and halt the case immediately before throwing it out entirely.

DOJ attorneys argue that the state attorneys general have a “fundamentally flawed” view of the Constitution and that the lower court judge, District Judge Peter Messitte, committed a “manifest abuse of discretion” in failing to allow an appeal of his decision denying a motion to dismiss.

The brief at times exudes a panicky tone regarding the impending responses to the 38 subpoenas that have been sent in the case. Trump’s lawyers write that “plaintiffs have already propounded thirty-eight subpoenas to third parties, including to five federal agencies,” since Judge Messitte ordered discovery to begin this month.

“The President is likely to obtain mandamus, and he is likely to suffer irreparable injury in the interim from the intrusive discovery into his personal finances and the official actions of his Administration (including through third-party subpoenas of government agencies),” the filing reads.

Trump attorneys also argue that the a violation of the emoluments clause, even as alleged by the state attorneys general, doesn’t give them the right to sue to enforce it.

I might suffer irreparable injury (from my wife) from an investigation into my personal finances (bourbon purchases) but I doubt that it would be grounds to stop a lawsuit.

It's just hilarious because it's tantamount to a child admitting he did something wrong but begging not to be spanked.

I was being sarcastic, but if she saw the receipts for the golden showers we’d be looking at a dateline episode (still being sarcastic).  The fact that dotus’ lawyers are asserting, in a court filing to dismiss a lawsuit, that discovery into our president’s finances would irreparably harm their client is one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen.

Other elements of the brief descend into early U.S. history, going back to the plantations and land purchases made by the founding fathers and early presidents.

Trump attorneys cite Washington D.C. land records from 1793 to show that George Washington purchased “several lots of federal land” during his presidency, adding that “no concern was raised that such transactions conferred a benefit.”

The DOJ goes further, however, and reaches for the slave-run plantations that Washington and Thomas Jefferson ran while in office as examples how the Constitution permits presidents to run private businesses while in office.

“Several early Presidents owned plantations and continued to export cash crops overseas while in office, including Washington, who exported flour and cornmeal to ‘England, Portugal, and the island of Jamaica,’ and Thomas Jefferson, who exported tobacco to Great Britain,” the filing reads.

But Jefferson! But Washington!

JFC. Pathetic.

Plus, everyone is saying that Trump has done more for the U.S. than either of those two losers.  Seriously, Washington couldn't even afford decent false teeth and Jefferson slept w/ negro womens.  Trump has much better teeth and very awesome beautiful white womens.

So it has come to this.  The RNC has fully capitulated to Trump:

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/12/18/trump-machine-swallows-rnc-1067875

Quote

President Donald Trump is planning to roll out an unprecedented structure for his 2020 reelection, a streamlined organization that incorporates the Republican National Committee and the president’s campaign into a single entity.

It’s a stark expression of Trump’s stranglehold over the Republican Party: Traditionally, a presidential reelection committee has worked in tandem with the national party committee, not subsumed it.

Quote

Under the plan, which has been in the works for several weeks, the Trump reelection campaign and the RNC will merge their field and fundraising programs into a joint outfit dubbed Trump Victory. The two teams will also share office space rather than operate out of separate buildings, as has been custom.

The goal is to create a single, seamless organization that moves quickly, saves resources, and — perhaps most crucially — minimizes staff overlap and the kind of infighting that marked the 2016 relationship between the Trump campaign and the party. While a splintered field of Democrats fight for the nomination, Republicans expect to gain an organizational advantage.

Quote

While many senior party officials recognize the potential upside of the arrangement, they also privately acknowledge the political risk of linking the party apparatus so closely to the president at a time when he’s under increasing political and legal duress.

“There are some people who choose for whatever reason to handcuff themselves to the Titanic,” said John Weaver, an adviser to Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is considering challenging Trump in the Republican primary. “Why, I have no idea.”

Yeah, I've been wondering if the Dems wouldn't be better off slow-playing any significant release of Mueller's findings until closer to the Republican primary.  Let them ride the Trump train until it gets so close to the election that any damaging info (and potential impeachment proceedings) render an alternative candidate virtually impossible to elect.
