Service vs Draft Dodging has been a political issue for 30 years.

What's new in Trump's case is that we've never had a Draft Dodger who openly talks shit about people who exaggerate their service or who didn't serve.

The level of hypocrisy is astounding, and it's mind boggling that people continue to defend it with the "well, lots of people..." bullshit.

I agree 100% that Trump opens himself up to criticism when he argued that McCain wasn't a hero for being captured.  Or comments that he's made in an attempt to make himself sound as tough as a soldier.

EDIT:  Did anyone really believe that Trump had bonespurs in 1970 (or whenever he avoided the draft?)   of course we all assumed his injury was made up.

Hitler wasn’t always a mass murder.

The point was Hitler actually CARED about Germany and the German people, so much so that he was willing to engage in the worst atrocities ever to accomplish his utopia.

Trump has no such ideology that he really believes in himself.  His ideology is simply to exploit the world for his own financial gain which isn’t really an ideology because it’s merely shallow self interest.  He serves no higher purpose.

You need to check yourself.  You are making arguments defending Hitler.

I don’t know why y’all are wasting your time with the bone spurs shit. Nothing matters to Trump supporters except making liberals angry.

It doesn’t matter that he is a draft dodger who insults heroes. If this hypocrisy makes you angry, that’s a feature of his appeal, not a bug.

The only thing that will cause his supporters to abandon him is adversaries celebrating victory, and then like all toadies, these will slink away.

Trump wouldn't have been the only man to find a method to avoid being drafted.  Whether it be through a medical deferment, staying in school, etc.   From my understanding, many professors were reluctant to give bad grades to men during the vietnam era to perhaps keep them in school.      I can understand why many people look down on draft avoiders but in hindsight we shouldn't have been in vietnam.  At least at the level that we were at.   We also don't have any hard evidence that Trump's fictitious bone spurs were faked or the doctor lied.  The deceased doctor's daughter's comments aren't evidence.

I agree with your point that Vietnam was fucked up, and I try not to judge the men of that time for their service or non-service. But most draft dodgers don't brag about their military knowledge or become president by playing on some percieved line of the military. For that, Trump can go to hell.

EDIT: Looks like ACL beat me to it.

Just because the hypocrisy has no influence doesn’t mean the hypocrisy should go unnoticed.

It’s when we stop acknowledging the contradictions that Trump really wins.

Donald Trump pretended to have bone spurs to get out of military service during the Vietnam War. We know this. The media know that we know. But we make-believe that we don't know and the media make-believe that they believe that we don't know, but know that we know. Everybody knows.

I agree.

This is a downside to the information age where, once the focus is put on someone, an unlimited number of people can attack every detail of a person's life. You get a white noise of clutter that clouds salient issues like fog enveloping a cape.

I feel the same way about focus on Trump's possible mental health diagnoses. Narcissism is clearly evident and useful in talking about Trump. Going any further than that is sort of irrelevant.

I've noticed over the years a trait that often separates men from women other than anatomy. If a person does something bad like lashing out at a another person, men will make a simple judgment based on the action. Women will go beyond that and look for underlying justification of the act:

He just heard his brother died and he had a hard time in the Gulf War.  There's more empathy which is usually a great trait. I think this is why abusers keep their wives for so long. You hit a man expect the response and judgment to be swift and permanent. Your action has defined you.

The abuser hits his wife and the woman recalls how wonderful the man can be and finds excuses for the incident. The abuser uses a virtue against his victim.

I don't care if your Daddy beat you or you have PTSD, you hit my sister and that's it.

With Trump, there is little call for amateur psychology. His prominent actions condemn him as a hateful, destructive man and disastrous president of the US. The smaller stories are researched and reported through various media without editorial judgment. Information flow is less focused and so is the focus of the electorate. Politicians use this all the time.

For W, the economy is bad. Suddenly the homos are coming to ruin our marriages. Later it's trans opening up the women's bathrooms so bad men can rape our wimmin.

Lack of focus is a symptom of this failing republic.

Sorry for suddenly becoming long winded. I'll work on it. We're an impatient world.

Edit to say Bozo made the point more concisely but less sententiously.

Bravo, sir.

An allusion to The Lion in Winter? Another Christmas movie not recognized as such. One of my favorite movies.

Bone spurs is weak as a dig at the president.  If you really want to go after someone you need to endlessly make puns about a fairly weak weak claim to Native American ancestry.  Also, rawdogging a porn star while your wife is home with your infant son.  It’s the 21st century who cares.  I’m just glad we can say Christmas again.  God bless.

The Democrat opponent should flat out call trump bone spurs to his face in a debate. Mention how he mocked war heroes while he made up an illness. Force trump to prove he had a medical problem.

Of course, I seriously don’t think trump will have the courage to participate in a debate in 2020.  He will make up excuses blaming the dem and will never face his opponent.

Like I said I don’t blame trump as much for getting out of the Vietnam war as much as his other comments.

Donald Trump also got a Medicat Doctor employed by the United States Government to say his fat ass weighs only 220.

Today Trump believes: "I would have served in the Military, if only not for my darn bone spurs!" and "It's nice not being obese! Ffor a second there I thought I might weight more than 220 pounds."

That and the whole mass murder and invading other countries thing. But other than that, totally the same.

Actually yes, because if he was able to put forth a coherent message the other 2 would follow.  You don’t think he’d have armed gunman up on a wall shooting anyone that approached?  If he could get away with it, that’s exactly what he would do.  You think Miller/Bannon are against mass murder?   LOL

Fuck him. The moment he couldn't resist downplaying McCain's service opened him to a lifetime of derision and mockery by simple contrast. I've never made a sacrifice like that for anyone or anything. And i never will. Any enlisted person who went to Kuwait for a month just to sort mail has far surpassed my record of sacrifice. I possess just enough dignity and respect to never run my fucking mouth about that person. Our records speak for themselves. The fact that he even felt slightly defensive about that part of McCain's life clarifies that he's soft. No matter how unfair, Trump earned a lifetime of that derision for being a loudmouth. The truly weak resent and loathe any sign of strength they detect in another person. John McCain flew planes and Donald Trump failed at closing an umbrellas before entering a plane. That's the end. Trump earned that narrative.

The Navajo have a word to describe a man who behaves like Trump: “Chickenshit Heel.”

Actually, that’s a wrestling term.  But Wahoo McDaniel probably used it before, so my original point still stands.

exactly. i come here to watch the daily outrage and wonder where people still have the juice to actually be outraged

i lost my outrage years ago. Nov 3rd 2016 I saw my wife hyperventilate and have the outrage of her life. i just sat there. if you haven't seen this coming then you have been living in an alternative universe just like the trumpkins. once trump goes away there will be another ballless, soulless, sucker of satan's cock ready and willing to be the next puppet of these semis. they want nothing but to piss off everyone else. thats it. it takes the willingness to stare down the obvious along with a ring leader devout of any good human qualities

merry Xmas motherfuckers. nice, rainy, cedarless day i hope

Clearly Trump is panicking. I wonder how many people it took to carry him on and force him into the plane.

You’re pathetic. Bravo President Trump for going to Iraq to visit the troops. A war that a rube of a President that was under the the thumb of the neocons started that killed and maimed millions. No matter what Trump has or hasn’t done, he will ALWAYS be a better President than the cumstain known as W and the bullshit war he started to avenge his war criminal father’s attempted assassination by Saddam.

Interesting theory.

If we give trump the 8 years we mistakenly gave Bush, trump will manage to fuck things up far worse. Luckily that won’t happen so we’ll never know.

Both suck, and I voted for Bush twice and now admit my mistake. Something trumps mind will never allow him to do. Mommy issues are a bitch.

How long until he tweets he's the first POTUS to ever visit troops overseas? End of the day Friday?

Most likely he'll whine like an impotent little man that he's not getting any credit from the media for making the trip.

Can't wait for people to say this is the day he became president. You know someone will be dumb enough to say it

Loss of his brand (name) is the biggest punishment for him. I don't really think he cares about family in any real way, just his name and legacy.

It would do both.  Breaking up Trump Org would hurt his brand, and take away control from him, which is as important to him as his brand.  He’s a control freak.

Sure they are.  They are hearsay, but they are definitely evidence.  What you probably mean is that they aren't "definitive proof," which would be a correct statement.  Of course, sadly, the ship of "facts, proof, and shit like that" sailed long ago, and sank to the bottom of the Trump trench.  So, the facts are whatever we want them to be -- those are the new rules.  And I want the facts to be that Trump was a selfish, cowardly shit, who dodged the draft.  From what we know of Trump, that's probably ALSO the truth, if that mattered anymore.

The way he treated that Gold Star family, the way he so casually mocked McCain being captured and tortured, and his disdain for visiting the troops (minus today) unless he can make it a campaign rally, told me everything I need to know about what Trump thinks of the military.   The draft-dodging and his family’s lack of military service just serve as icing on the cake.
