Trump loves accusing others of what he's doing himself.  Every time he says or types "collusion" or "obstruction", it's an admission of guilt.

If you're still falling for this con man's misdirection bullshit, you're an idiot and please don't breed.

It will be fun for Limbaugh and his buddies. She's the perfect candidate for their winkingly racist condemnations of the Dems. She's perfect for the opposition and will bind Trump's base closer to him. Sad.

I'm not saying that the Dems should care about the deplorables. They should not install Waters unless she is a good candidate for the job. I assume she is. She will be under the microscope.

I see the other side of the same coin.  They won't be able to resist taking the bait and throwing out racist remarks.  You'll see that whittle the base even lower.  In a good economy he'll keep at 40ish % - racist dog whistles and all.  As the economy spins into the shitter, people will have a lot less tolerance for Trump/R's bullshit.  They'll drop to a solid 30% or so and be turbofucked in 2020.  They got run pretty good with a sparkling economy a couple months ago...shit is not looking so rosy with Maxine stepping into that role.

The Dems have ZERO incentive to compromise here.  Trump has tied a noose around his own neck and keeps tightening it.  Why on earth would they provide him any relief?  The MAJORITY of Americans oppose the wall.  The MAJORITY of Americans have a negative opinion of Trump, and that percentage is climbing because of and during this shutdown.

Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake.  The longer this shutdown goes, the more Trump hurts himself.  Let him do so.

Somebody needs to explain to me why the Democrats would ever give a dime to the stupid wall* or any other Trump priority.  The stupid wall has the support of less than a third of the country--including a negligible percentage of Democrats--and shutting down the government over the issue is continuing to erode Trump's popularity and authority.  By giving Trump the finger over the stupid wall, the Democrats (1) further please their base, (2) further reduce Trump's approval numbers, and (3) further demonstrate Trump's inability to govern.  It's a win-win-win for them.

*I am informed from my right-wing acquaintances that it is referred to solely as "Wall," without the direct article.  So in case you were wondering whether this administration was going to go full aggy, you have your answer.

Actually the Democrats should play his game back and tell him the funding gets smaller and their demands get larger each day of the shutdown. Planned parenthood gets more funding would be a nice start.

At the risk of opening up the Pandora box on abortion, but not wanting to perpetuate a right-wing myth...

Planned Parenthood does not get funding from the federal government, except as it relates to contracted services.  The receive money for services the provide people under Title X and Medicaid, that any organization providing the same services could.  There is no line item to fund Planned Parenthood.  In order to hurt Planned Parenthood, Republicans want to pull back on family planning and medical services for poor people.  (Or, alternatively, in order to pull back on family planning and medical services for poor people, Republicans want to say it's about Planned Parenthood.)

Info on Title X:

Quote

WHAT IS TITLE X?
The federal family planning program, known as “Title Ten,” is named for its section in the federal Public Health Service Act. It became law in 1970, three years before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in Roe v Wade.

The original bill was sponsored by then Rep. George H.W. Bush (R-Texas) and signed into law by President Richard Nixon.

The program provides wellness exams and comprehensive contraceptive services, as well as screenings for cancer and sexually transmitted diseases for both women and men.

“We’ve been very clear, Planned Parenthood has an unwavering commitment to ensuring everyone has access to the full range of reproductive health care, and that includes abortion.”

In 2016, the most recent year for which statistics have been published, Title X served 4 million patients at just under 4,000 sites.

Title X patients are overwhelmingly young, female and low-income. An estimated 11 percent of Title X patients in 2016 were male; two-thirds of patients were under age 30; and nearly two-thirds had income below the federal poverty line.

The Financial Services Committee also oversees the work of the Federal Reserve, the United States Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and other financial services regulators. It is currently chaired by Republican Jeb Hensarling from Texas;

its Ranking Member is Democrat Maxine Waters from California. Waters has been elected as chair of the committee, and will assume office on January 3rd 2019.

This should be fun for Trump.

This is less an indictment of Maxine Waters, and more one of Congress in general...but how the fuck does an 80 yo with no finance/business background get put in charge of the Financial Services Committee?  I'd like to think the folks overseeing these committees would at least understand the subject matter.  Instead, we get folks like Steve king grilling the Google CEO about iPhones.

Because people with finance/business backgrounds don't want to be in Congress, they can make more bank and not have to face losing their job every 2 years staying in the private sector.

Hence why we have Louie Gohmert, Sheila Jackson Lee, Matt Gaetz, etc.

The best finance/businessperson (not Trump, blech) would make the worst Congressman.  One voice out of 535.  No power.  Voters are too stupid to understand anything you're saying.  Government doesn't run like a business.

Russia's new strategic weapon has rendered any missile defenses useless at a small fraction of their cost, officials said Thursday.

The Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle flies 27 times faster than the speed of sound, making it impossible to intercept, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov told Russian state television.

The new weapon "essentially makes missile defenses useless," he said.

Borisov spoke a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin oversaw what he described as the conclusive successful test of the Avangard and hailed it as a reliable guarantee of Russia's security for decades to come.

In Wednesday's test, the weapon was launched from the Dombarovskiy missile base in the southern Ural Mountains. The Kremlin said it successfully hit a practice target on the Kura shooting range on Kamchatka, 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) away.

The Defense Ministry released footage from the test launch, in which a ballistic missile could be seen blasting from a silo in a cloud of smoke, but it hasn't released any images of the vehicle itself.

Putin said the Avangard will enter service with the Russian Strategic Missile Forces next year.

The test comes amid bitter tensions in Russia-U.S. relations, which have been strained over the Ukrainian crisis, the war in Syria and the allegations of Moscow's meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Sergei Ivanov, a former Russian defense minister, said in televised comments that the Avangard constantly changes its course and altitude as it flies through the atmosphere.

He emphasized that unlike previous nuclear warheads fitted to intercontinental ballistic missiles that follow a predictable trajectory allowing it to calculate the spot where they can be intercepted, the Avangard chaotically zigzags on its path to its target, making it impossible to predict the weapon's location.

A smiling Ivanov likened the weapon's flight through the atmosphere to a pebble skipping off the surface of water.

Ivanov, who now serves as Putin's adviser, said the Avangard could be fitted to the Soviet-made UR-100UTTKh intercontinental ballistic missile, which is code-named SS-19 Stiletto by NATO.

He noted that Russia has a stockpile of several dozen such missiles, which are in a factory-mint condition and not filled with fuel, allowing them to serve for a long time to come. Ivanov added that they could be put in existing silos, sharply reducing the costs of Avangard's deployment.

"The Avangard has cost hundreds of times less than what the U.S. has spent on its missile defense," Ivanov said.

He noted that Russia began to develop the Avangard after the 2002 U.S. withdrew from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and started to develop defenses against ballistic missiles.

Moscow feared that the U.S. missile shield could erode its nuclear deterrent, and Putin announced in 2004 that Russia was working on a new hypersonic weapon.

Ivanov recalled that when Russian officials warned their U.S. counterparts about the new weapon program at the time, American officials were openly skeptical about Russia's ability to carry out its plan.

"We aren't involved in saber-rattling, we simply ensured our security for decades to come," he said.

I hate Trump but I think this is overblown. Unless those guys were DEVGRU or otherwise under the DIA program to manage cover of key assets, I don’t think ‘regular’ Team guys identity is some huge secret...they may have been part of his cover detail for all we know.

I feel like there are many more legit, treasonous, illegal things that deserve attention on DJT than this. The key thing with this photo op that bothers me is that it appears he *surprised face* arranged it for his own political gain...and not something that was an accident or agreed upon by those operators.

Agree.  Those who want to see Trump in America’s rear view mirror would be better served if they just focused the real stories — Mattis giving Trump a vote of no-confidence as CinC, financial market meltdown and the border walll government shutdown.  Obsessing over the missteps during a photo shoot is stupid and only helps Trump bury his real transgressions with noise.

27x the speed of sound? And maneuverable?

Bullshit.

That is a fucking warhead moving 10x faster than a bullet fired from a gun.

Yep. That is a significant percentage of escape velocity.  It would create a fireball, and I have serious doubts that it is maneuverable in any controlled way other than on a relatively fixed path.
