Wasn't really paying attention to the end of Nightline. Did I just see Melania giving a white doll to a little African girl?

Okay, apparently it was a little beige Barbie/Ken/G.I. Joe-sized Teddy Bear? It was definitely smaller then a roll of paper towels.

So in the span of what---36 hours?--POTUS ripped a female reporter in a press conference with his "I know you don't think...you never think" remark THEN doubles-down and mocks another woman's testimony of her sexual assault. Surprised he hasn't followed up with his lie of getting 52% of the women's vote yet.

I will raise a glass & toast the day this vile, sexist, racist piece of shit is six feet under. He's nothing but a shit stain on our country's history.

Trump has done a lot of disgusting things, but mocking Ford last night is his worst imho. Whether Kavanaugh is guilty or not, Trump chose to publicly mock someone who was sexually assaulted. It wasn't locker room banter, it wasn't sex with a porn star, it was blatantly demeaning a sexually assault victim to a crowd of thousands, and getting them to celebrate it... as the President of the United States . No doubt he will do more things in the future, but not sure how he can go any lower. He is a vile human being.

The next few days are gonna be fun reading twitter.
And I bet Cruz cancels the rest of his debates.  No way in hell he wants to try and defend Trump on that, and if he doesn't, Trump won't show up.

I disagree. At this point indecency is a feature, not a bug. If anything Cruz isn’t doing better because he’s too nice.

It's Wednesday, October 3.  Plenty of time left this week (or day).

I’m beginning to question how committed these folks are to the abortion issue.  If Trump came out tomorrow and said he’s pro choice, would it really move the needle?
I doubt it.

It’s the sole issue for a solid block of voters. Yes. They’d go off the deep end.

Had the fact that he's have no to rally in fucking Mississippi been discussed? Is it the Senate race they're worried about?

They're not worried about it.

They wanted to go somewhere that adores Trump.  He needs the feel-goods.

After her testimony, not a sole in America would have said they thought she was lying. It took less than a week for people to forget.

I’d be willing to bet that plenty of women are not going to forget in the voting booth when hubby isn’t peeking over their shoulder.

Warren isn’t testing the waters. She’s running. She got a lot of pressure to run in 2016.  People that seriously run for President make that decision three to four years out.  She’s been very publicly rolling out her platform, releasing all her taxes, and putting to bed the Pocahontas shit over the last two months.

She’s among the candidates I’m most certain are running.  Kamala Harris would be the another.

I have no problem with her running but I wish these cowards would be honest for once

You obviously don’t understand how this works.  First of all, she wasn’t lying there.  She is running for Senate, which is true.  She isn’t running for President until she is.  Moreover, she answered Chuck Todd’s question in a way that strongly indicates she is considering running for President because she didn’t commit to serving out her six year term if elected.

No one is going to declare they’re running until after the midterms.  They do this to protect themselves from preemptive smear campaigns and focus on the election right in front of them. Which everyone should.

He's coming to Rochester, Minnesota tomorrow, and there's no love lost for him there.

Rochester is MN-1, which is basically one of like, 2 potential House seats the GOP could pick up (open seat).  I'm not surprised he's going there then.  I'm sure the Republican is thrilled by it.

You're being ridiculous.   She literally just said, "After November 6, I will take a hard look at running for president."  That's about as honest I've heard someone in her position be about their intentions.   One does not simply run for president.  (/Sean Bean).  There's a process of testing the waters, forming an exploratory committee, and deciding whether to give it a go.   She's not currently running, but will strongly consider it after this election.   To expect anything more than that is unreasonable.

Not to mention it's really bad form to announce this before you get re-elected.  Yeah, she's running in Massachusetts and up 30 points on her competitor, but you still wait.

You don't run for re-election under a platform of "LOL I don't care, I'm running for President literally the day after you suckers vote for me." At least, you don't say it out loud.

Trump lying that he was self made when all of his money came from Daddy is the lie. I wasn't talking about money laundering. And that is a MASSIVE stretch if you are saying that is what occurred. His father, his accountant, tax, and real estate lawyers used a shit ton of loopholes in the tax code to avoid paying excessive tax on his investments.

Look, I am not saying that it isn't sleazy and Trump is and always has been a pathological liar what I am saying is Trump can't be charged a crime for something that every wealthy family has down for ages with the transfer of their wealth.

SInce y'all seem to be my clearinghouse for all things political, let me tell a story.  A couple of them, actually.  Three, if you want to be specific.

When I was 14 I went with a family friend to visit some of her relatives out of state in a very small Southern town.  One of them was a 30 year old man married to my friend's 19 year old sister.  My friend and I spent a week there by ourselves. I spent the whole week trying, not always successfully, to keep the 30 year old from shoving his hand down my shirt.  While I was awake, while I was asleep.  Anytime no one was around.  This was well before the days of cell phones and my choices were to tell my 14 year old friend or her 19 year old sister.  I did neither.  I still feel the horror, the shame, the embarrassment, and the powerlessness to this day. What I remember most is sleeping in my heaviest nightgown with two heavy blankets over me in the heat of the summer in the deep South in a house without A/C.  That is, when I slept at all.  I spent most of each night waiting for that hand.

When I was 20 I went with my boyfriend and his roommates to 6th Street on Halloweeen.  I dressed as Billy Gibbons.  Much drunken flirting and hilarity ensued. Somewhere in the crush, my boyfriend got separated and so his roommates and I took a cab back to his place.  His roommates raped me. I was so drunk that I don't remember much about it except that I kept trying to turn over to stop them, but either I was too drunk or I was being held down.  Now that I think about it, turning over probably wouldn't have done any good anyway, if you know what I mean. When I told my boyfriend about it the next day, he accused me of fucking them deliberately and kicked me out.  Apparently flirting and drinking with roommates means I want to fuck them. I didn't tell anyone else.  What would have been the point? There was no proof and no witnesses.  "Date rape" wasn't even a concept then.  Being raped meant by a stranger at gunpoint, knifepoint, or at least fistpoint.

Fast forward more decades than I care to admit.  I'm a successful business owner.  I'm doing better than I ever dreamed.  I make obscene amounts of money and I've got an agreement in place to sell my business in 3 years for a humongous payout.  I spent 2013 bald and puking and kicked cancer to the curb, never to look back.  I'm a published songrwiter and I've been involved in the Austin music scene for a long time. I do volunteer work.  I'm happily married, have a nice house in one of the greatest cities in the world, and by all accounts, a great life.

But this morning I feel, in turns, 14 and 20 years old.  I'm being touched and violated against my will.  And no one cares, no one believes me, and I'm being publicly mocked and scorned by the leader of this country and his disgusting minions.  I should have said something.  I should have done something.  I shouldn't have drank.  I shouldn't have flirted.  I shouldn't have dressed up as Billy Gibbons with a fake beard and a cardboard guitar.  I shouldn't have gone out of state with my friend at age 14 for a vacation from my parents.  I'm nothing.  My credentials don't matter, my credibility doesn't exist, and I'm just some skank trying to use something that certainly didn't happen, and, well, if it did, then it's my fault, to help the evil liberals bring down the poor persecuted conservatives.

I guarantee you I'm not the only woman you know who feels this way today.  Just keep it in mind, OK?

Thank you for sharing. You are not alone. I have been trying to get my own story down on paper, but it is a slow, difficult process.

Yeah...y’all need to just realize and accept this stone cold truth. We are the United States of Cruelty, and we cheer for it.

As for M12BH....thanks for sharing. And stories like that are behind more female faces than most of us can imagine (and you know me - in REALLY good at imagining the worst). The fact that the leadership has doubled down on cruelty and demeaning and mocking women...well, it shouldn’t shock me. But it still does. And makes me a little ragey.

So much this. This resonates with so many women. We can accomplish so many things but still be treated like a sexual object or less of a person that a  man.  It's just the lack of respect and it's so infuriating. Thank you for sharing. I think the more women share their stories, the more men in our lives will realize how prevalent the problem is.

I consider myself "lucky" in that I've never been raped or assaulted if you don't count that time my cousin hugged me a little two long in a way that wasn't very cousinly, or that time I drank too much and had already passed out/"went to sleep" and a guy I was crushing on joined me in bed and we started making out and stuff. I didn't say no but I wasn't exactly all there either. There's also all the times I've been grabbed in clubs and bars. For women, that's just a given. So I'm not really in the statistics of women who have been assaulted but I know a lot of women who have been assaulted and I can empathize. Women aren't going to make this shit up. There's also a lot of us with grey stories like mine. Was it assault when my cousin touched me? Was it assault when some guy came to do things when I obviously wasn't all there? But I do know it was morally wrong.

And the underappreciated corrollary to that is that stories like that are behind more male faces that most of us can imagine.  Because there were 3-4 men in her story alone who are still part of our society today, and the same is true for every woman who has been raped, sexually assaulted, or sexually harassed.   I wonder how many feel guilt about it today and support all of this coming to light today with the me too movement, and how many are instead angry or in denial about it.

I also consider myself "lucky" that I haven't been raped.  But I know plenty of women who have been, including my younger sister when she was in high school.  My mind also keeps going back to an event a few years ago, in which I was with a date at a bar and he started taking off my shirt and undressing me in the crowded bar while fingering me.  I don't know if I felt truly unsafe--it was crowded and I got the fuck out of there (after I paid our bar tab with the guy standing next to me and then following me as I left the bar).  But I do know I felt violated and, sadly, guilty--what signal did I give off that made him feel like he could undress me in public.

Holy hell if I counted the times I've been groped in clubs...well I might have an easier time counting the stars.  Yeah, I know, I played guitar in a rock band, I dressed like a slut, I sang dirty lyrics, blah blah blah.

Yeah it's the lack of respect that is the worst.  I was brought up to do and be anything I wanted, never mind the fact that I am a female.  I have a very strong, very ahead-of-his-time father, who absolutely would not let me put up with any shit from any stupid stinking men. I was instructed to kick them in the balls, figuratively for sure and literally if needed, and stand up for myself and do what I wanted.   I think it's no accident that my profession and avocations are all in male-dominated areas, nor is it an accident that my sister is a surgeon, a job that is still a bastion of men.  But today none of that matters.  Today I'm less.  Because I my privates go in rather than out.

I guess I should mention the good guys. My dad.  My husband.  One of my two brothers.  They guy who almost took my virginity until I chickened out at the last minute and I was so embarrassed and apologetic, and he said it was ok and then took me out and bought me french fries at McDonald's.  I'm ashamed that I don't even remember his name (told y'all, I'm old AF).  I know y'all are out there.  But today you don't matter.  I'm sorry to have to say that, but nothing much does matter today. I'm having to force myself through work, which involves finalizing a financial plan for someone who has jillions of dollars. I may have to actually take some time off today and reschedule our meeting.  I can see it now.  "Hello, Mr. XXX, I'm sorry I have reschedule our appointment.  You see, I'm having a mini-breakdown today brought on by past sexual trauma that is resurfacing because of the political atmosphere in this country".  Yeah, that will go over great.  Actually this client is a gay man so he might be a little more sympathetic than I would think.

But seriously.  I know most of y'all are assholes n shit but you are helping me today.  Thank you.

for real, though, thanks for sharing. we may all be a bunch of assholes around here, but we care about each other, mostly.

my ma has told me stories about being literally chased around her desk by her boss in the 80s. i'm sure she has worse stories, but she's reached an age where she sadly says things like "what did she expect?"

we need to get past that mentality first, i really think. yes, sometimes women find themselves in compromising situations. okay. so what? that doesn't mean that they are less a victim, because a man presses an advantage. that's the first milestone we need - to empower women into thinking they did nothing wrong when they are victimized, because that is the biggest specter over the whole issue, imo.

it's the guilt the victim feels.

Oh, fuck the 80s, for lots of reasons.  Something else that set me off - I posted my thoughts on the Kavanaugh testimony on my Facebook page and was immediately reminded why I stay away from politics in that cesspool.  A guy I've been internet friends with since the AOL days immediately went off on me to the point that I unfriended and blocked him yesterday.  One of the things he said that caught my eye was referring to Dr. Ford as "a so-called doctor, and I use that term loosely". I've seen that characterization a few other times in the last couple of days.  I mean, what the fuck? Because she came forward with a story about sexual assault, that somehow negates her PhD from the University of Spoiled Children, and her research and publishing work at Stanford?  Can someone smarter than me please explain?  What does any of this have to do with her credentials?  Are words like this meant to denigrate her further, to say that because she dared to be a slut at 15, and to ruin a choirboy's life during the pinnacle of his professional success, that she shouldn't be referred to by a title that she has earned by both education and profession?

Seriously.  I don't get this one. Someone please splain.

Some chickenshit men will find any way to denigrate a woman or minority that they realize is better than them.

Thank you.

I typed up a long response to share my stories. 3 years into living the dream. And you know what? Shame set in and I deleted my draft. I don’t want to share. Nothing major. 2 I won’t forget and already countless creepy hugs and wandering hands. The 2 aren’t criminal they are like sachick’s stories. But you know what? I don’t and won’t share bc I’m afraid what people will say on this stupid message board. That they won’t be considered legit and that I’m just being emotional and dramatic. How’s that for being a quick study? It sucks. My best friend is like you and she’s having a very hard time working in this climate bc of her prior sexual assault.

If you count the minor stuff like sachick’s - I bet it’s statistically 100% of women. And guess what? My first 36 years on this planet? Not one example to share on the other side of the hormone/gender divide

Well, I'd guess it's one of two things -- misogyny or anti-intellectualism.  Both hallmarks of the right, both reprehensible.

Anyone who is somehow so unaware as to doubt the legitimacy of a PhD should be shunned.  I guess there's a slight chance they were mocking the field of study, but that's only one step less damning.  Plenty of people equate psychology with "counseling", though, in a negative way.  You know, maybe slightly more rigorous than "African American Studies".  #ivorytower
