Looks a lot more "insanely chill" than what the Bundys tried to pull off over in Oregon.

Did you actually watch the video?  The tweet isn't how it went down at all.  The reporter was asked a question by Anderson Cooper about what the response would be if the president "goes in".  The reporter says its peaceful, but as an aside states Washington is an open carry state, so if the president sends troops in, there could be bloodshed.  It had nothing to do with the singular weirdo that tried to interrupt the shot.

Okay. Here's the link to the actual local news story Mr. Ngo took clips from to misconstrue the situation. That quote from the police chief is referring to response times to that general part of the city because the precinct is closed, and, undoubtedly, they have slowed. But she was not referring to the CHAZ as a place where rapes and murders are happening. Also, unmentioned by Ngo, is that the reporter in that story also is showing video of the cops reoccupying the precinct station and mentions that the protesters are allowing them in there. So, yeah, the YouTube clip is total bullshit.

Just watch the unedited, original story and it's not nearly the sinister chaotic scene shown above. And, as a matter of fact, the video does make the zone look #insanelychill. It's a short newsclip, and the contrast between the portrayal of the situation is stark.

Well it’s an autonomous zone, not one street. I’m sure CNN would’ve preferred to not have their shot interrupted and their reporter scurrying around nervously if they could’ve helped it. Maybe they should’ve shot on that chill street.

Yes. They allowed them in there to clean up, it appears. I wonder what would happen if they attempted to do anything close to their job?

As for the rest, here are the quotes.

Reporter “She says since her office packed up and left, 911 response times have gone up by more than 300% in the surrounding neighborhoods”

cut to police chief “Rape, robbery and all sorts of violent acts have been occurring in the area and we’re not able to get to them. It is not a right for us to not be able to deploy our officers here.”

So you’re correct, it doesn’t seem as cut and dry as the clip intended, but she doesn’t exactly specify which area she is discussing. CHAZ or the surrounding ones. She doesn’t say we aren’t able to “deploy our officers as fast as needed,” like you would think if she was talking about the surrounding areas. They are not “able to deploy our officers here.”

In any case, what appears to be certain is CHAZ actions are negatively affecting the city services (including fire and ems potentially, those are 911) for a larger portion of the city, causing an unknown increase in morbidity and mortality for them.

Y’all are right. It’s just like Eeyore’s birthday except they forced the cops out and trashed the office and if you live in the area and need help you might be fucked.

Totally chill and not hostile.

I'm happy to criticize any media outlet that completely fabricates a story. In this particular case, Ngo is very well known (or should be) for creating disinformation and propaganda with intent to deceive the audience.

You're more than welcome to call me out anytime I post something like this. It's okay. I can take it.

I don't doubt that CHAZ has affected city services and emergency response times in that part of town, and I stated as much in my OP on the subject. If that were the point of NGO's post, I wouldn't have had any problem with it because...logic.

My problem is that he deliberately edited the news story to make the police chief sound like she was describing the zone as a Hamsterdam-like situation.

Oh, it gets better.

Marcus S is one of Ngo's sock accounts.  So, Ngo is creating a fake "eyewitness report" with a sock, then amplifying it as a "reporter."

GR....please, PLEASE keep using Ngo as a source.  It can only end well for you.

Fucking moron.

Social media and cable television has amplified the 'uncredentialed' voices as reporters of news such as the self-educated Ngo.  It existed before those sources, but it was a little easier to suss out. The Twitter check mark fools people because they don't always know what the checkmark means.(you are the person you say you are, but other than that, you can identify your job as a Highland cow in your bio and still get a checkmark).  Educated news consumers are familiar with bias, but this is a little like the National Enquirer attempting to portray itself as a news agency instead of a horoscope peddler and alien sighting aggregate.

GrHorn--I am listening/reading your perspective, but others are correct with checking 'who is saying what.' The Guardian had a former editor write a really good book on how social media and cable news did a number on their business. Immediacy has trumped (no pun intended) accuracy. Be careful out there, it's the wild west of information.

GRENADE LAUNCHERS?

Sweatergawd, I suppose Deputy Custer that wants to outwit THE ANTIFA will surely pause before pressing the 'go' button on one of those? Maybe stop and consider collateral damage if it hits a child 800 meters away? (not sure of the distance on one of those, it varies right?) That is sure to de-escalate any problems.

I love the way these LAW AND ORDER folks are loading up on ammo and military gear. Who was it used to scream about Jade Helm?

I think it's kinda important to point out that these purchases are being made to prepare for riots in Midland, Texas.

Let me repeat that. They are purportedly concerned about Antifa-led riots in Midland, Texas.

I mentioned Antifa as part of the joking reference to the NextDoor/Facebook stories. There is an activist group protesting there, but I believe the article mentioned they are protesting the arrest and charges against an African American man and BLM has a protest planned (or had one already). So, I'm to blame for inserting antifa in the convo.

FWIW I dont agree with everything in here.

Also, is it really a UCB professor? Impossible to know, but from having a family member that's a Professor at the University with similar political beliefs to myself, I can verify that the same atmosphere that only allows approved thought is present in Austin.  No surprise there.

Imagine growing up in a privileged white family, going to Colgate, UVA, University of Chicago, and Duke (i.e. career student) and having fuck all to show for it other than being an absolute shit stain on society.  That takes real skills.  There should be some sort of lesson attached to this level of failure.

And there is still the completely cowardly lack of follow-through on thought. Ok, so you recognize that not all minorities are equally disadvantaged. You even recognize the Nigerian immigrants do better than US-born African Americans. But wait, if it's not systemic racism, then tell me, WHY is it they US-born African Americans are disadvantaged? Something in the culture, something in the genes, something else? If it is not systemic racism, please, I would love to hear the explanation. Is it really just the democratic party as the author suggests?
