HBO Max was a must have because the original series were maybe 80% top quality television.  Now that Discovery has been mixed in, overall, it's probably 90% trash TV.  Even though the good content is the same or has even increased, the impression the new app gives is that it's mostly not worth paying for.

I heard part of an interview yesterday with a former HBO exec. He said they will be talking about the guy that is in charge of this for years in business classes as a perfect example of what not to do to an established brand.

At first glance, yes, but don't underestimate the demand of all the do it yourself/home improvement/interior design shows.  There likely isn't any overlap between prestige TV fans and the Chip and Jo Jo bubble.  If he can get those people to buy into Max, that's a win.  We've had HBO for years and as far as this add on, we seem to get the Anthony Bourdain shows and outside of those, there is nothing I want to watch.

Actual cooking shows were the best. Do they even have one left on the air?

Taste with David Rosengarten was the best Food Network show.

I wrote that before we watched the last two eps. The last two eps saved the season. Sam finally showed a different side, and everything wrapped nicely just in case there’s not a third season. We enjoyed a lot about this show.

Renewed!

I was just making sure my account didn't auto-renew anytime soon and came across the current rates compared to what I "paid" last year. I put paid in quotation marks because that was rebated by an additional $30 by either my amex or chase credit card.

They’re not jacking up the price per say, but they are adding a higher tier that will have more simultaneous streams, 4k/atmos format, and some content exclusively in 4k.

What that content is, I don’t know. But that’s about all I can dig up on it.

Doesn’t make a shit to me. Grandfathered into their top tier via at&t. Good enough.

I'm sure there's a better thread for this, but The Watchmen is so damn good, especially A God Walks into Abar. Regina King is fucking amazing

This is the best puzzle box show ever wrapped into a history lesson most of us had no idea about until this show came out.  It was the perfect amount of weird, funny, sad and stuck every landing at the end.  Prbably the most underrated single season of TV this century.

"Per se."

The choice is either $100 for ad-supported or $150 for no ads but with 2 simultaneous sign-ins and HD. The only other option is to pay monthly at as much as $20/month.

Odd.

The ones I’ve seen in the app were per month/year

9.99/99.99

14.99/149.99

19.99/199.99

It was also mentioned that those on the current no-ads plan wouldn’t see changes for like 6 months. Not sure how long it goes, but my guess would be not much past that.

They are definitely jacking up the price.  The old price on the old app was $15 a month for no ads and 4k.  That price is now no ads but no 4K.  $20 is the new price for what you used to get for $15.

Anyone had trouble finding the new 'max' app in their tv app store? I'm trying to give my sister my login credentials but she can't find the bloody app on her LG tv under either hbo or max.

I haven't gone over to her house yet to see with my own eyes yet but her son is college age and living at home right now so I'm pretty sure the age/tech gap isn't the culprit, and they made sure their tv was fully updated.

Yeah I don't know what the deal is. She doesn't spend anything on tech stuff but she spends like crazy on other things.

Thank you so much. You saved me a trip over to her house with an extra roku in case I couldn't resolve it. Always happy to see her but it's her house decor and her yappy dogs that quietly kill me.

Wow

I use the apps on my Samsung and have for years. The TV is wired into my LAN vs using wireless so I get better bandwidth than using a firestick. Never have issues.

So I opened up the HBO Max max app because I saw this new series The Idol premiered and I wanted to watch the trailer. Normally a new drama series by a proven director like Sam Levinson would be front and center when you open the app, but instead, I see that wanker Guy Fieri shoving food into his mouth and marketing God knows what bullshit reality eating show. I have to scroll down and hunt for The Idol and then there is no option to actually watch the trailer, so I have to go to YouTube for that.

Well, I think we can all agree on one thing:

Fuck Guy Fieri.

Really? Guy Fieri may irritate some folks and he puts his kids on TV too much but no one has done more for independent restaurateurs than he has thru his shows and his Foundation. He has raised and donated millions of dollars, and being on DDD is a winning lottery ticket for a independent operator. It’s why great chefs like Ripert, Jonathan Waxman, Nancy Silverton, and a slate of others appear on his shows.

And knocking him while searching for “artistic” porn like The Idol. Such snobbery.

Great human being, but his shtick is annoying as fuck.

Warner Bros. Discovery proclaimed with maximum delight that a whopping 70% of HBO Max customers hopped on to the company’s shiny new Max streaming platform in its first week out, proving that practically forcing people to switch to your new app is truly a brilliant way of getting people to switch to your new app.

Has he ever tasted anything that wasn't awesome or the greatest?

I'm a sucker for Lakefront and Beachfront Bargain Hunt. I like the fact that it's all in one app now.

I’m pretty sure I’d much rather hang out with Guy Fieri than any of the pretentious squares on this thread bashing Guy Fieri. We’d be pounding Jager bombs and slayin late-40s lake poon while crushing chili dogs all day long. Giddyup motherfuckers. We’re partyin’!
