Casino El Camino - their burgers aren't even in the top 10 of Austin, must less "the best."

I love these threads because they always show me exactly how stupid people are and what horrible stupid fucking opinions they have.  It makes me glad that I hate all people equally and without discrimination, because people are basically stupid and terrible.

So thanks and keep posting so I know exactly how stupid some of you dumbfucks actually are!

(Not all of you, some of you are actually correct.  So good job!)

Oh come the fuck on, you can say Casino is overrated as in "OMG IT IS THE BEST BURGER EVER" but there are not 10 better burgers and your list is crap.

Hideout Pub - Agreed
Bender Bar - Never had so will give it to you
Pour House Pub - It is ok, not better
Hopdoddy - WAY THE FUCK OVERRATED
Jeffrey's - Never had so will give it to you
Crown & Anchor - I would call it a tie
Counter Cafe - It is ok, not better
Vince Young's - Nope
Huts - Overrated
P. Terry's - Overrated

So maybe 3 on your list are better.

I am routinely surprised by people who vouch for the pizza at Pinthouse.  I like several of their beers, but the pizza is pretty weak.

In the "not sure anyone actually rates it any more" category, I'll go with Chez Zee.  It feels as old as its clientele.

Magnolia Cafe is a hipster pubic hair in your eggs waiting to happen.  Kerbey Lane, a little less so, but their food sucks more.

Torchy's is definitely not some kind of taco destination, and for that matter, neither is Taco Deli (although Salsa Dona is legit).

Your mom is Austin's most overrated restaurant.

That said, Trudy’s is horrible.

The milanesa and chesse-stuffed mashed potatoes washed down with a rita was a staple back in the day.  Not surprised they've fallen.  Too easy to cash in.  Hoovers should buy them out.

magnolia has held up for decades.

i've never been to a kerbey lane other than the original, and the last 3 times there have had major problems.

chuy's on 183 and lamar are both still acceptable to me, and are a parsec better than the chuy's on 75 in plano.

the problem with austin is that post sharkjump, whenever that was, there is a permanent disparity between demand and supply.

it's just about impossible to fuck up to the point where you lose customers because of the "it" factor that austin has now.

It’s just cool to hate on Torchys because they aren’t traditional tacos. It’s great. Their tortillas need work though.

Same with Hopdoddy, if you don’t like their Akushi beef burger, fries and the shakes, then you don’t have taste buds

I can’t speak for most of your list, but... you think Hut’s and P. Terry’s are better than Casino El Camino?

ok, guy.  good for you.

Indeed. The consistently good business at some of these shitholes is just amazing.

& yeah, Magnolia is much better than KL.

I guess you could hate 'em for that, too. I just hate 'em because they're  overpriced & aren't very good.

El Arroyo - Holy hell, this place has had a dramatic fall from over the past few years.   Aside from the iconic sign and the nostalgia factor, what more do they do well?  I can’t imagine they’re long for this world.

In what world is El Arroyo something people rave about?  Maybe 10 years ago?

I've only lived here since 99, so maybe I don't have enough runway, but how can Flores ever be considered overrated?  I've never heard a single person describe it as good.  I like the Strait Plate and Margs at Maudie's, but that's a good entry.

Z Tejas is probably my #1 for this category.  As the restaurants have gotten better around here, the level of love has diminished...but that used to be an OMG you gotta go place.  I've never gotten it.

La Condesa is easily the most overrated and overpriced.

It's living off it's past performance and drinks. It used to be good (if a bit overpriced). But last time I went both the service and food were pretty bad.

Uchi is good, but there are a number of LA and NYC spots that blow it out of the water.

No shit, there are places on the coasts that have better sushi.  That doesn't make Uchi overrated.  It's one of the top restaurants in Austin probably equivalent to a 1 Michelin star restaurants in areas where Michelin sends judges.  It's rated about exactly what it should be.

You obviously missed this post, which I was replying to.

I heard Landry from FNL on the Nerdist podcast recently and he said Uchi has the best sushi, and that includes NY and LA. Can anyone confirm it's really that good?

Ben a long time since I've been.  But when I went, it was "high end" mexico city type fare....that consisted of small portions, average quality, and HIGH prices.  No thanks.  I pegged it as a "dining destination for the pretentious," and haven't gone back.

I sadly haven’t eaten at Casino in 6 or 7 years but the wife’s cousin was in town for SX and said he had the best burger he’s ever had there. It couldn’t have fallen too far or he’s spent his life eating terrible food.

It's been a year or so, but last I went...it was still a damned fine burger.  Maybe not "BEST EVER!", but damned good, still.

Never.  It was NEVER something to rave about.  It's adequate tex-mex....with good happy hour prices and a nice patio to kill an afternoon on.  I still enjoy it for that reason, but I never tell someone "you gotta go to El Arroyo and order X, it's the best ever!"

I don't mind Guero's at all but the only thing I've ever had  there in all my visits is 1) tacos 2) chips with an assload of free jalapenos and 3) margaritas .  Don't care about the rest of the menu.  Give me those three things and I'm set.

Gueros is mediocre for every thing...except one.  Their tacos al pastor are really, really good (or at least they were, last I went a coupla years ago).

It's the only thing I get there -- tacos al pastor and a cold beverage, and I'm happy.

Otherwise....yeah, overrated.

Number one offender for me is the fucking Oasis. That place has truly terrible terrible food, but it's ALWAYS packed. People love that place and I cannot figure it out. Sure it has a nice view on a good day but the food is overpriced garbage. Even if they gave it away it would still be ass.

Trudy's has a couple OK options on the menu, but we always went for the Mexican martinis anyway. I'll toss one out that I believe may not be around anymore - Mellow Mushroom. That place sucked ass but for whatever reason everyone loved it. I guess because it was convenient to west campus maybe.

Agree with several others including El Arroyo and County Line.

Went to the oasis for the first time in years a coupla weeks ago. Same great view...same mediocre grub. Burgers were fine, nachos were...awful. How do you fuck those up?

It’s worth a visit, but not for food.

Exactly. The times I have been I always try something new...."how can you fuck up a burger/chicken sandwich/fajita/whatever" I say to myself, and every time it's absolute garbage. The best things I have eaten there have been barely passable and then you realize the burger cost you $18 and was on par with an overcooked double with cheese at McD.
